Chapter 27: Get into the show at any time

Osmanthus Courtyard.

Zhuang Wan was curled up in a rocking chair, basking in the sun, holding a handful of melon seeds in her hand, eating them while thinking lazily.

What does Pei Xingju mean?

He gave her money, let her live as freely as if she were at home, and promised to treat her well in the future. Is he crazy? Why did he suddenly change his attitude for no apparent reason?

Could it be...that he is plotting something bad again?

Suddenly, Zhuang Wan sat up.

It must be like this!

There's no such thing as a free lunch, especially when it comes to someone as thoughtful as Pei Xingju. How could he let someone take advantage of him for free? Perhaps he's planning something big.

Zhuang Wan became nervous and had no appetite for eating melon seeds.

"Qiutan, the sweet soup I asked you to prepare... A-choo—"

Standing up, Zhuang Wan sneezed several times, secretly annoyed at who was talking about her.

However, when she turned around, she met the gaze of the man in the attic not far away, and was terrified as if she had seen a ghost.

She rubbed her eyes to make sure she was not mistaken. The figure in black standing next to the attic railing was Pei Xingju.

He was looking at her, and when he saw that she had noticed, he indifferently looked away.

Zhuang Wan was frightened and stopped eating melon seeds. She lifted her skirt and ran away.

.

Here, Pei Xingju originally came to the library to pick up books, but seeing the bright afternoon sun, he had some free time.

But as soon as he walked out of the corridor, he saw Zhuang Wan basking in the sun in the courtyard.

She was curled up in the rocking chair, like a cat, quite content, eating sunflower seeds and swinging her legs.

The library was located just west of the Osmanthus Garden, separated by two courtyards and a corridor. However, the library was high up, so one could survey the entire Pei Mansion from a simple glance.

Zhuang Wan's expression and movements were all in sight.

Seeing her running away with her skirt lifted up, Pei Xingju frowned slightly and pursed his lips.

Why is she running! He's not a ghost!

"Sir," the servant came forward at this moment, "is this the book you are looking for?"

Pei Xingju glanced at it and raised his hand to take it.

The servant asked, "Would you like me to make some tea?"

"good."

He walked to the window, book in hand, and sat down. On the flower table was a pot of orchids. The flowers were in bloom, and a gentle breeze blew, bringing with it a faint fragrance.

Time is quiet, and it is rare to steal a half day of leisure from the busy life.

However, this leisurely time did not last long, as the sound of footsteps coming up the stairs was heard.

Soon, someone arrived.

"Yuzhi?" Zhuang Wan feigned joy. "I thought you had entered the palace today, but I didn't expect you to be here."

She came over and asked: "What book are you reading?"

Pei Xingju was basking in the sunset, feeling comfortable all over and didn't want to pay attention to her.

He continued to turn the pages of the book.

Zhuang Wan curled her lips, feeling a prick in her heart, and placed the food plate on the table. "This is the sweet soup I made. I was planning to send it to you after you finished your job, but since you're here, I'll bring it to you to try."

"I made this with spring honey, and added acacia flowers and dried apricots. It tastes delicious."

"Noisy!"

I don’t know if it was Zhuang Wan’s illusion, but the tone didn’t sound like a reproach, but rather a bit of indulgence.

She was suddenly startled, but did not show it on her face.

"So you want to eat now? I'll take the food tray away after you finish."

Pei Xingju put down the book and looked at her casually.

"Who taught you that?"

"?"

"These foods..." Pei Xingju asked, "How can a young lady like you understand these things?"

During this period of dealing with Pei Xingju, Zhuang Wan had developed the ability to speak fluently and could get into the role at any time.

She said affectionately and shyly, "I didn't know how to cook it originally, but for you, I've figured out a lot of recipes. Even if I don't know how to cook it, I'll get it after trying it a few times."

After thinking for a moment, she held up a finger that had been accidentally cut this morning and said pitifully, "Just for this bowl of sweet soup, I made it at least ten times, and even injured my fingers before I could make it."

Actually, no, the injury was caused by her cutting bamboo skewers while grilling meat.

But at this moment, she stood weakly in front of Pei Xingju, with a shallow knife scar on her finger. However, because of her fair and delicate skin, the knife scar was unusually red, which looked a bit shocking.

Pei Xingju stared at the knife mark, and his eyes unconsciously became gentler.

"You don't have to do it anymore."

"That won't work!"

Zhuang Wan was still counting on these sweets to numb Pei Xingju's stomach. Now that they finally had some effect, how could she give up so easily?

However, in Pei Xingju's eyes, her resolute expression was a manifestation of her utmost infatuation.

Pei Xingju sighed silently, said no more, picked up the sweet soup and started eating.

Perhaps he didn't want to let her down, so he drank it all, even eating the spoon clean.

Zhuang Wan took the empty bowl with a smile.

"What else do you want to eat, Yuzhi? I'll make it for you again."

Pei Xingju was about to say that it was not necessary when Chen Yi came upstairs. He said hurriedly, "I've been looking for you for a long time, and you're here. Something big has happened..."

He suddenly stopped in his tracks, his eyes flicking between Zhuang Wan and Pei Xingju, his expression ambiguous and mischievous.

"Isn't it bothering you?"

Zhuang Wan smiled.

Pei Xingju had a blank expression on his face: "What's the big deal?"

Chen Yi said, "You need to go to the palace immediately. Gao Jing is in danger."
