Chapter 8 Interacting
The man in the carriage said "hmm" lightly.
"Where are we going on the lake today?"
"South of the city, by the lake."
"You're so thoughtful! I've been feeling really down these past few days, so it's great to go out and relax today."
Zhuang Wan said this in a pretentious manner, then lifted her skirt and prepared to get into the car.
At this time, Guard Lu stopped her with his arm across his chest: "Miss Zhuang, your carriage is over there."
Zhuang Wan looked in the direction he pointed and saw an inconspicuous carriage behind Pei Xingju's carriage.
She nodded and smiled, greeting Pei Xingju in her heart.
.
She didn't know how long they had been traveling; the carriage was swaying and Zhuang Wan was drowsy. When they stopped, she yawned in exhaustion.
"Miss Zhuang, please get out of the car." Guard Lu shouted outside.
Zhuang Wan straightened her dress and got off the carriage.
Pei Xingju had just gotten off the car. Noticing her, he glanced over, his gaze sweeping over her before finally stopping above her head. His expression was a bit... like disdain.
Soon, he withdrew his gaze, turned around and walked forward.
“…”
Zhuang Wan gathered her emotions and quickly followed.
"Yuzhi, wait for me."
This pleasure boat must have been prepared by Pei Xingju in advance. It was spacious and exquisite, with everything you need inside. Fruits, snacks, tea utensils, and even the faint scent of agarwood could be smelled inside.
Two maids stood outside the curtain. Seeing Zhuang Wan approach, they respectfully opened the curtain for her. Zhuang Wan smiled at them and stepped inside, but hesitated at the door.
Pei Xingju sat cross-legged by the gauze window. In front of him was a low, long table with a stove on it and a teapot on it emitting steam.
"What are you standing there for? Come here," he said.
"Yuzhi, where do I sit?"
"Where do you want to sit?"
Pei Xingju looked around and realized there was no cushion opposite him, but instead there was one beside him. If she sat down, she would have to sit next to him.
Before he could open his mouth to say anything, Zhuang Wan had already shyly stepped forward and was about to walk around the long table to sit down. Pei Xingju quickly kicked the cushion over to her.
The cushion passed under the table and slid precisely to Zhuang Wan's feet.
Zhuang Wan paused and cursed inwardly, "You bastard."
After sitting down, she pretended to be sad and said, "Yuzhi, you and I are so distant today. If it were in the past, you would definitely not be like this."
Pei Xingju slowly raised the pot: "Oh? What was I like in the past?"
"If it were in the past, you would only treat me gently and considerately, without any cold words or distant politeness."
Pei Xingju's tone was cold: "Do you know that I have lost my memory?"
Zhuang Wan nodded.
"When did you find out?"
"I knew it half a month ago."
Pei Xingju stopped moving, looked up and examined her silently.
He did lose his memory half a month ago. After waking up from the poisoning, he had a very vague idea of what happened in recent years. Sometimes he could remember a little, but most of the time he could not remember it at all. Therefore, he had taken leave and stayed at home these days and had not attended court.
Only those around him knew about his amnesia, but the woman in front of him...
"How do you know that?"
"I guessed." Zhuang Wan said sincerely, "When I learned you were injured, I went to see you secretly, but you said you didn't recognize me, so I guessed you might have a head injury."
Zhuang Wan could only say this. After all, Pei Xingju had only claimed to be injured and recuperating, and no one knew it was an arrow wound, nor that the arrow was poisoned, so the only reasonable conclusion was that he had a head injury.
Pei Xingju looked at her for a while, and gradually, his eyes became gentle.
He poured a cup of tea and gently pushed it towards Zhuang Wan: "Don't worry, I just can't remember it at the moment. When I recover in the future, I will definitely remember everything we did in the past."
"Yeah." Zhuang Wan responded and pretended to be calm as she drank the tea.
But I was very panicked.
As expected, Pei Xingju is the cunning and experienced one, and he is even more skilled in acting than her.
The moment Zhuang Wan lowered her head to drink tea, her mind was racing.
"Yuzhi," she raised her eyes and asked, "When will you recover?"
"I don't know yet, maybe two months, maybe three months."
"Oh." Zhuang Wan felt slightly disappointed, and then changed her expression to one that seemed to want to say something but hesitated.
Pei Xingju was still gentle: "Between us, is there anything we can't say?"
"So I...just told you?"
Pei Xingju nodded.
Zhuang Wan said, "I'm staying at your house now, but I'm always thinking about my mother back home. I wonder how she's doing."
She had been staying at the Pei Mansion for the past few days, and had no news. She had no idea what was happening at the Zhuang Mansion. Especially Madam Zhuang's situation, Madam Zhuang had been very kind to her, and she hoped that her situation would improve.
"Your mother is seriously ill and cannot enter the palace. I have sent her to the manor to recuperate."
"real?"
"How could I lie to you?"
"Yuzhi..." Zhuang Wan was delighted and looked at him tenderly, "I knew that even if you lost your memory, you would still treat me well."
Pei Xingju smiled.
"Then may I ask you one more favor?"
"What?"
"Well, I've been eating a bland diet these days, and I want to eat something different."
Pei Xingju continued to smile: "What do you want to eat?"
"I'm not picky. Abalone, ginseng, bird's nest, anything is fine." Zhuang Wan pretended to be wronged: "But the maid said that our family is poor and we can't eat it."
Pei Xingju's smile slowly froze: "Must I eat it?"
"I've been feeling unwell lately and want to replenish my body."
“…”
