Chapter 10

Chapter 10

Alo suddenly ordered the maid, "Go get a scar removal cream and some desserts."

Pei Jian looked up in confusion, "Are you injured?"

A Luo shook his head, his gaze fixed intently and heavily on Pei Jian's face. "I'm not injured. What about you? What kind of dessert do you like?"

Pei Jian thought for a moment, "Chestnuts, I guess."

"good."

Pei Jian ate very little; he didn't even finish half a bowl of rice porridge, and he only picked out a small piece of chicken from the chicken soup.

She stopped eating, and A Luo promptly cleared away the dishes that were in the way. Pei Jian got out of bed to go for a walk, and A Luo caught up with her in a few steps. "There's also a small cake, a very delicious cake."

"No, I've already eaten."

"But you eat so little."

"That's too little," Alo glanced at the almost untouched food. "Is it not to your liking? I'm sorry I didn't ask about your dietary preferences beforehand."

He pulled Pei Jian back to sit on the edge of the bed, while he sat cross-legged on the floor. "Can you tell me what you like to eat? Besides peanuts, are there any other dietary restrictions? What don't you like to eat? What colors do you like? What style of clothes do you wear? What do you like to do in your free time?"

Pei Jian: [Why does he ask so many questions?]

System: [Please help me with this.]

Pei Jian: [I'm proving myself. I'm already working on it. Don't you think he's already hooked? Playing hard to get, you know what I mean?]

System: [...It turns out it was all an illusion on your part.]

...

"Jane?" Alo shook her hand. "Isn't this too much? You can tell me slowly, okay?"

"oh."

Oh: It's not good, nor is it bad; it depends on the situation.

"Shall we eat something now?"

Pei Jian didn't want to eat.

But this dragon prince was inexplicably persistent in wanting her to eat more, and even more.

She's not a pig!

During the scuffle, Pei Jian could no longer bear it. She had been holding back her anger for a long time. This dragon prince with two holes in his head had repeatedly made things difficult for her. She couldn't hold back anymore, and before she knew it, she had already slapped him.

A crisp 'snap' sound.

The two maids standing by the wall felt their hearts skip a beat, and they lowered their heads even further, ignoring what they were hearing.

Everyone knows Alo's temperament. They just hope that the weak human girl won't die here directly, as the bloodstains are difficult to clean.

The crisp sound of the slap brought Pei Jian back to her last shred of reason.

Facing Alo, who could kill her with a single punch, she shrank back, and the coat draped over her back slipped down her spine and piled up on the bed.

"I'm sorry," she apologized, though her words didn't reflect her true feelings. Whether it was because of his muscular physique or because he was someone she was trying to seduce, she shouldn't have hit him.

Violence is the worst way to solve problems.

But her personality is both timid and fierce.

The system should never have chosen her as its host.

Pei Jian was genuinely worried that the mission would fail because of this, and she would be stuck here forever. A Luo would take revenge on her and torment her. That night four months ago had left an indelible impression on her.

That was too impulsive.

Pei Jian was filled with remorse, having already imagined the most tragic ending in his mind, and tears welled up in his eyes, dripping onto the back of his hand.

Alo was only surprised for a moment, but he felt no anger at all.

It was indeed his problem from beginning to end. He was the one who pressured Pei Jian, and he didn't understand her enough. Pei Jian hitting him was perfectly justified.

"Sorry" should be said by him.

A Luo shook out his coat and draped it back over Pei Jian's shoulders, then wrapped his arms around her, gently patting her back as a way of comforting her.

The tip of his high, straight nose couldn't help but brush against the soft, delicate skin on Pei Jian's shoulder. It was the first time A Luo had hugged her like this, like a pair of intimate lovers.

"It's okay. If you're still not satisfied, you can hit me a few more times. It's all my fault."

Seeing that A Luo's attitude of admitting her mistake was good, Pei Jian really didn't intend to pursue the matter, and her tone became sharp again, "It was your problem to begin with."

Like that incompetent husband who turns his back on you.

A Luo chuckled softly, repeating several times in accordance with Pei Jian's wishes, "It's my fault."

-

The next day, Pei Jian felt much better and, after waking up, gathered a few people to play Ludo.

The game was originally set up in the bedroom, but shortly after it started, A Luo called him to the study.

“Someone will be going to the bedroom to change the curtains later, which might disturb you,” Alo explained.

Not only were the curtains changed, but the chairs and blankets were also replaced almost the entire room from top to bottom. The previous black, white and gray were replaced with sky blue and light green.

Pei Jian overheard A Luo instructing the servants that since there was a young girl in the house, the clothes and quilts sent over in the future should be in bright colors.

She could sense that her strategy was about to succeed.

Although she still doesn't know which of her actions so easily stirred A Luo's heart.

But in any case, as long as the goal is achieved, that's good.

Pei Jian stayed in A Luo's room for a whole month. During that month, A Luo lived downstairs, in a room directly opposite hers.

She rarely ventured outside the palace or into the commoner's quarters, because she was the only human woman in the entire city.

She knew that the dragons' malice towards humans had not diminished after the war ended; on the contrary, they felt they had won and were even more unscrupulous in their contempt for humans.

If it weren't for the dragon race's higher-ups suppressing them, they probably would have already spontaneously invaded human lands.

Just like the first humans did.

The civilization of the dragons is far behind that of humans. They need human intelligence. Even Alo said that human wisdom is their unique wealth, which can create many things that benefit the whole world.

In matters of relationships, dragons are much more open than humans.

Their males and females are completely equal. Because they are oviparous, the embryos develop and mature outside the mother's body. In addition, there is almost no difference in strength and physique between male and female dragons, so they are very open.

In contrast, humans are much more conservative. Many conservative human men still subjectively believe that human women are petite and weak, and need to be protected by men and depend on them.

This misconception was even more prevalent in times of economic hardship.

A month later, Pei Jian's residence was finally renovated.

It was an extremely magnificent independent palace. Crystal chandeliers hung from the third floor all the way down to the first floor, refracting bright light. Almost all the furniture in the palace was personally selected by A Luo and Pei Jian, or the designs were drawn by A Luo and the workers rushed to make them overnight.

The palace has a surrounding circular garden, which is filled with gardenias and wintersweet, among other plants.

"We plant several kinds of flowers that bloom in each season, so you can smell the fragrance of flowers all year round," the servant explained.

Do you like it?

This palace is not far from Alo's palace, separated only by a narrow river with clear water where several plump koi carp glide leisurely across the surface.

Pei Jian couldn't bring herself to say the words "I don't like it".

Through this period of time spent together, A Luo had a good understanding of Pei Jian's preferences, and the palace was full of his ingenious touches.

-

In a few days, it will be the end of the year.

Dragons like to gather with a few close friends on the last day of the year and get completely drunk.

Pei Jian didn't have any friends.

All the friends she made here were kids who hadn't even grown up yet.

Alo hesitated.

He wanted to attend the year-end friends' gathering with Pei Jian so that she could get to know him better. Besides, legend has it that lovers who kiss at the last moment of the year will be happy for life.

When it comes to Pei Jian, he'd rather believe it's true than not.

However, Alo worried that she would feel lost and sad as the only 'outsider'.

"So, does Jane want to participate?"

At that time, Pei Jian had nothing to do and was learning to make cookies. Some flour got on her hands, and she rubbed it on her apron a few times but couldn't get it all off. A Luo pinched her fingers and rubbed off the fine powder.

Pei Jian asked, "If your friend doesn't mind me participating, I can go."

“Of course they wouldn’t mind,” Alo said with a smile. “They’d love to get to know you.”

“Sure,” Pei Jian readily agreed, eager to join in the fun.

"Do you need any help?"

Pei Jian shook her head. The process of making cookies is very simple. First, knead the dough into a soft and pliable dough, then choose a cookie cutter, press it out little by little, put it in the oven, and wait for it to come out of the oven.

However, perhaps she didn't get the proportions of the various seasonings right, and the result was a plate of hard, tasteless round slices.

The embossed flowers are gone too.

Alo, on the other hand, was full of praise, saying it was good enough to open a dessert shop.

"You're just flattering me to death," Pei Jian said, putting the cooled cookies into a bag and handing it to A Luo. "Here, eat it if you like."

What's the difference between that and chewing bricks?

This thing is so small that it's even harder than a brick.

Could it be that... dragons' teeth are much harder and sharper than humans'?

Pei Jian looked up curiously, while A Luo leaned against the table, his head resting on the cabinet above him.

She stared at him, slightly stunned. The phrase 'tall and strong' was the perfect description for A Luo.

A Luo noticed her undisguised gaze, a slight smile playing on his lips. He lowered his eyes and asked, "What's wrong? Want to try again?"

Pei Jian waved to him without saying a word.

Alo bent down and leaned closer.

"Open your mouth."

Although Alo felt a little surprised, he simply rinsed his mouth with water and obediently opened his mouth.

Pei Jian used the pad of his thumb to forcefully push against A Luo's front teeth.

They're no different from humans...

Alo didn't understand what she was trying to confirm, so he grabbed her wrist and rinsed it under the tap. "Aren't you afraid I'll bite you?"

Pei Jian triumphantly placed her hand near his mouth again, domineeringly saying, "Go ahead and bite."

Alo's smile deepened. "What were you thinking of doing just now?"

I thought your teeth would be harder than mine.

What conclusions were drawn?

"Same here. Don't these cookies feel hard on your teeth?"

If you threw this thing into a pile of coins, Pei Jian wouldn't be able to tell which was a cookie and which was a coin.

"It's delicious."

“I’ve come to a new conclusion,” Pei Jian said, standing to the side as A Luo packed up the remaining materials and put them in the cabinet.

"What?"

“You have pica,” Pei Jian confirmed.
