Chapter 42
Chapter Forty-Two
The next day, Xu Ziyan packed a few things and walked out with Xie Wei. They happened to run into Bai Chen downstairs.
Bai Chen came downstairs to get a drink of water. He squinted slightly, his hair was disheveled, and he looked like he had just woken up, showing a rare hint of laziness.
Upon seeing Xie Wei, and then noticing Xu Ziyan following closely behind, he raised an eyebrow: "Planning to take her home?"
Their attitude was more familiar than I'd ever seen in the team before; it was clear they'd been friends since childhood.
Seeing that they were about to have a few words, Xu Ziyan tactfully said, "I'll go outside and wait."
After saying that, he walked out of the villa first.
The door closed, and the Omega youth's figure completely disappeared outside. Xie Wei then withdrew his gaze and said with a smile, "Yes, I brought KK along to play this year."
A faint smile appeared on Bai Chen's lips: "You've finally shown some consideration."
In previous years, Bai Chen would bring Bai Ke along for the Chinese New Year, but in recent years, perhaps because he was too lazy to go out, or perhaps because he felt embarrassed, only Bai Chen would accompany his parents to the Xie family to pay New Year's visits.
However, things are different now. This year, Bai Ke has transferred to a new team, and the Xie family has gained Xu Ziyan. Bai Ke and Xu Ziyan have a pretty good relationship, so this year is likely to be quite lively.
Bai Chen asked, "Did you tell Auntie that you were bringing people back?"
Xie Wei chuckled and said, "You know my mom's personality. If I had told her about this beforehand, I would have seen the whole house covered in double happiness characters when I got back, believe it or not?"
Bai Chen chuckled: "That's true."
Xie Wei asked, "How are you going to get back?"
Bai Chen casually brushed a stray hair from his forehead, lowered his eyes, and said lazily, "Drive. We'll pick up KK first. You guys go ahead, be careful on the road."
Xie Wei hummed in agreement and was about to leave when she was suddenly called back.
Bai Chen lowered his voice and said, "By the way, I've been wanting to ask you this for a while. Your problem... is it cured?"
Bai Chen, as Xie Wei's childhood friend, was well aware of Xie Wei's obliviousness to Omega relationships and his resistance to intimacy.
When he first noticed Xie Wei's relationship with Xu Ziyan, he was surprised but didn't pay much attention. Now, seeing that Xie Wei was preparing to bring her home, he finally became concerned.
Xie Wei didn't answer, but just smiled and said, "Take your time."
Bai Chen nodded and said, "Contact me anytime if you have any questions."
--
Outside the villa, Xu Ziyan looked up at the gray sky, exhaled a puff of white breath, and pulled the scarf around her neck up even higher.
After the New Year holiday began, the streets of City A became exceptionally bustling. This villa, however, was a quiet oasis amidst the hustle and bustle, with few pedestrians around. Since the snowfall on New Year's Day, the temperature had been dropping steadily, and even the wind blowing in one's face felt like it was carrying ice.
The weather was cold, but Xu Ziyan's heart was burning with excitement.
To be precise, ever since Xie Wei hugged him yesterday and suggested taking him home for the New Year, his heart has been restless.
Going home at this time would mean that I would inevitably have to meet Xie Wei's parents.
He touched his nose, unable to help but imagine all the possible scenarios.
If Xie Wei's family doesn't approve of them being together, is it possible that a scene like "Here's a check for ten million, take it and leave my son" could happen?
Or perhaps it's the kind of situation where the family has already arranged a fiancée, but the person who inexplicably becomes the one who steals her away, thus beginning a melodramatic battle.
What are you grinning about?
Xu Ziyan was lost in thought about all sorts of clichéd and melodramatic plots when a white GT slowly pulled up in front of him. The window rolled down, revealing Xie Wei's handsome face, which was the envy of everyone: "Are you cold? Hurry up and get in the car."
Xu Ziyan quickly snapped out of her daze and got into the passenger seat as instructed.
He fastened his seatbelt, looked at the interior of the car, and asked curiously, "Captain, I've never seen you drive this car before."
Although they are all luxury cars, Xie Wei usually prefers to drive the black Maserati.
Xie Wei said, "Yeah, we should keep a low profile when we get home."
Keep a low profile...
These two words immediately gave Xu Ziyan the feeling that "I have nothing to say to you bourgeoisie".
At the same time, he belatedly realized that the gap between him and Xie Wei was not only in the field of e-sports, but also in their backgrounds.
--
Xie Wei's family is located in the city center of City A. As expected of a nationally renowned wealthy family, they live in a prime location where land is incredibly valuable, yet they have carved out a quiet residential area amidst the bustling city.
As soon as you enter this section of road, the difference becomes immediately apparent. The trees and greenery are well-trimmed, with lush pine and plum trees, and the greenery in the dead of winter is a refreshing sight.
Further ahead lies a small fountain park with complete facilities. Across the park flows the Pei River, which runs east to west through City A, shaped like a crescent moon, creating a particularly beautiful scene.
On the other side of the river, the metropolis remains bustling and busy, but on this side, there is a unique sense of tranquility, far removed from the hustle and bustle of the world.
Xu Ziyan turned her head to look at the scenery outside the window, a hint of unease flashing in her eyes.
He knew Xie Wei's family was wealthy before, but he didn't have a concrete understanding of it. It's like giving an ordinary person a thousand dollars; they might know how much that is, but if you give them ten million dollars, it's no different from any other number.
Xu Ziyan usually wears team uniforms at the base, and only occasionally rides in Xie Wei's car, so he doesn't feel anything special.
But now that the e-sports filter has been removed, looking at Xie Wei again, one can't help but be amazed.
So rich...
In this area, even if he worked hard his whole life without eating or drinking, he could probably only afford a bathroom in a house.
After the car passed the gatekeeper and turned into the courtyard, Xu Ziyan looked at the mansion in front of him and expressionlessly crossed out his thoughts from his mind.
He was wrong; he couldn't even afford a bathroom.
Xie Wei parked the car in the open-air garage, pulled the handbrake, leaned over, unbuckled Xu Ziyan's seatbelt, straightened his scarf, and whispered, "Remember to call for help when you go in. If you don't know how to handle it, leave it to me. If you feel annoyed after dinner, go back to your room, okay?"
Xu Ziyan felt like Xie Wei was taking care of her like an immature child, and she said, feeling both amused and touched, "Okay."
Xie Wei smiled and kissed the corner of his mouth.
In the Xie family's living room.
A stunningly beautiful woman in a business suit sat on the sofa. She was gorgeous, with a slender figure and long legs crossed, the rhinestones on her high heels sparkling with her movements. The signs of age around her eyes and on her skin betrayed her age, but also added to her mature charm.
She flipped through the documents in her hand, glancing at the clock every now and then, muttering to herself, "Why isn't she back yet... Uncle Yan, are you sure Xiao Wei is coming back today?"
Before the butler, known as Uncle Yan, could speak, several sounds came from the front door, the electronic lock opened, and a tall figure stepped in: "Mom."
Mother Xie's expression relaxed, and a smile appeared on her lips. She closed the file and stood up: "You're back..."
Before she could finish speaking, she saw the unfamiliar black-haired young man behind Xie Wei.
Xu Ziyan was stared at by Xie's mother, and she was so nervous that she could barely speak coherently: "Hello, Auntie."
"Hello..." Xie's mother also looked at a loss. She looked at Xie Wei, and her voice involuntarily rose several octaves: "What's going on?!"
Xie Wei bent down and found a pair of slippers in the shoe cabinet, placing them in front of Xu Ziyan. Hearing this, she smiled and said, "Let me introduce you. This is Xu Ziyan, my Omega."
Seeing how well her son was taking care of this strange young man, Xie's mother had a pretty good idea of what was going on. When Xie Wei actually admitted it, she couldn't help but feel a little excited. She pulled the awkward Xu Ziyan over, looked him up and down carefully, and said with a smile, "Good boy, what's your name? How old are you?"
After Xu Ziyan finished answering, Xie's mother immediately asked, "Where are you from? What do your parents do for a living? How did you meet Xiao Wei?"
Xu Ziyan was overwhelmed by the barrage of questions. Xie Wei, standing to the side, helplessly stepped forward and pulled him back from his mother's grasp: "Mom, let's go inside and talk first."
"Yes, yes. Come in quickly."
Then, as if remembering something, Xie's mother led them into the living room. At this moment, her face lit up with joy, and all traces of her previous aloofness had vanished.
Xie Wei has always been a bright and promising child, growing up to be outstanding without needing much supervision. However, the events surrounding Xie Wei's father had a significant impact on her, and this has always been a source of worry for her mother.
She was almost thinking that if all else failed, she could help find some blind dates for him. But to her surprise, Xie Wei brought an Omega home without even a word!
As she sat down, Xie's mother glanced at the back of Xu Ziyan's neck and saw that there were indeed marks. She felt relieved and even happier.
She sat down next to Xu Ziyan with a smile and continued their previous conversation.
Xu Ziyan was initially worried that her ordinary family background and her parents' divorce would displease Xie's mother. But clearly, Xie's mother didn't care about these things at all. After asking a few questions, she moved on to the next one.
He immediately breathed a sigh of relief, and his stiff back relaxed slightly.
It wasn't until the doorbell rang that she finally seemed to remember something, her smile fading slightly as she turned to Xie Wei, who was sitting to the side watching the scene unfold, and said, "It should be your cousin and the others who have arrived."
Xie Wei frowned slightly. He looked at Uncle Yan, who was going to open the door, and asked, "Where's Dad? He's not back yet?"
Xie's mother said, "He's still at the company."
Although she has not separated from Xie's father over the years, the two have maintained a clear boundary and do not interfere with each other's lives. They are more like cohabitants than husband and wife.
Xie's mother was naturally cold-hearted. She had no feelings for Xie's father anymore and was too lazy to talk about love or hate. She only regarded this marriage as a tool for profit, multiplied her assets several times, and lived a very comfortable life.
Xie Wei nodded, then said to Xu Ziyan, "No matter what they ask later, you don't need to answer."
Mother Xie shook her head and laughed, "How could you teach Xiaoyan like that?"
He said that, but he didn't stop it.
Xu Ziyan understood: this "cousin's family" must not be very popular in the Xie family.
