Chapter 69 Making Friends
It was still early in the workday, and there was no mobile phone entertainment and no one to chat with him. Ji Zheng felt a bit bored.
Ji Zheng didn't want to sleep, so after thinking about it, he decided to help his colleagues.
"I'll help you." Ji Zheng walked to the desk of a colleague nearby and asked, "What are you thinking about?"
It was good to have someone to help, so the colleague did not hesitate to take out a part of the booklet and gave it to Ji Zheng. "Please help me calculate this part. Thank you very much."
Ji Zheng took the stack of booklets and said, "No problem." He turned around and walked to his workstation to start calculating the registration carefully.
Ji Zheng finished the registration in a short while. His colleague's eyes widened. He thought Ji Zheng was fast but he didn't expect Ji Zheng to be so fast. "I didn't see you using an abacus or paper. How come you are so fast?"
"I do mental arithmetic. I've been interested in arithmetic since I was young, so I'm better at this aspect." Ji Zheng explained casually and turned around to lend a helping hand to other colleagues.
With Ji Zheng's plug-in, the mission progressed a lot faster, and others felt grateful and respectful towards Ji Zheng.
When people are fully engaged in doing something, time tends to pass faster, so before they know it, it's time to get off work.
"Finally home!"
Ji Zheng threw the booklet in his hand away, stood up and stretched his muscles.
The others also stood up and stretched their bodies. Looking at the pile of registered books next to Ji Zheng, they smiled and said, "We are really indebted to Brother Ji today."
"I didn't expect Brother Ji to be so good at math."
"That's right. That's right."
"Brother Ji is so good at math, why didn't you go to the Ministry of Revenue?"
Ji Zheng felt a little embarrassed after being praised so much. In fact, he was just a beneficiary of the times.
"You are not bad, my lords. I am only a little proficient in arithmetic. I am not as good as you in other aspects."
Ji Zheng's humble remarks gave people a better impression of him.
"Brother Ji, don't be so modest. Let's have a drink together after we're done with this busy period." One of the younger officials invited with a smile.
“Sure, sure.”
"I think so."
Seeing that everyone else agreed, Ji Zheng didn't want to spoil the fun, so he said, "Of course you can."
"Then see you tomorrow." After packing up his things, Ji Zheng said goodbye to everyone else.
"See you tomorrow."
Several people smiled at him.
As soon as he walked out of the weapons manufacturing department door, a voice came from behind, "Brother Ji, wait a minute!"
Looking back, I saw that the voice belonged to the person who had just suggested drinking.
When the others approached, Ji Zheng asked with a smile, "What do you want to see me for, Master Gao?"
"Don't be so polite, just call me Gaoji, which means high mountains and flowing water, and good luck and prosperity."
"Okay." Ji Zheng's smile remained unchanged. "Brother Gao, what are you looking for me for in such a hurry?"
"Nothing, I just want to make friends with you." Gao Ji was straightforward. "I think you're a good person."
Ji Zheng was speechless for a moment, "Thank you, Brother Gao."
Gao Ji chuckled and said, "Let's talk while we walk."
The two walked side by side towards the outside of the palace.
"Where does Brother Ji live?"
“Clear the streets.”
Gao Ji clapped his hands when he heard this and said, "What a coincidence! I live there too!"
"That's such a coincidence." Ji Zheng kept smiling.
"Brother Ji, if you don't mind, we can go home together after we finish our work."
One more friend means one more way. Gao Jiji is willing to befriend him. "That's great."
The two chatted about some other topics and soon arrived outside the palace.
The carriages of each family are already waiting here.
Gao Ji enthusiastically invited Ji Zheng to get on his carriage, and Ji Zheng agreed without any hesitation.
After getting to know each other along the way, Ji Zheng also found that Gao Ji was a good person, who spoke in a humorous and measured way.
The carriage turned halfway and was not heading back to Qing Street. But before Ji Zheng could ask, Gao Ji took the initiative to explain, "Before I left, my wife asked me to go to the Yungao Shop on Lan Street to buy some red bean cakes."
There was some embarrassment in his tone.
I didn't expect that this man is a man who loves his wife. Ji Zheng smiled and said, "Brother Gao and his wife love each other very much."
Gao Ji's smile was a little shy, "My wife is very good."
After saying that, he quickly changed the subject as if he was embarrassed, "By the way, is Brother Ji married?"
When talking about Ji and An, Ji Zheng's smile became more sincere. He raised his hand to make a two and said proudly, "We have been married for two years."
Everyone can feel the happiness on her face.
Gao Ji smiled and said, "It seems that Brother Ji and his wife are very affectionate."
Ji Zheng was not ashamed and admitted it directly, "Of course, my husband has a kind, simple, lively and lovely personality. He is loved by everyone and flowers bloom wherever he goes..."
A barrage of praises came hurled at Gao Ji.
Gao Ji was completely speechless.
"...With so many wonderful qualities, it's hard not to be attracted by them." Ji Zheng said confidently.
Not knowing what to say, Gao Ji could only smile awkwardly. However, he liked Ji Zheng even more. After all, in his opinion, the character of his beloved wife could not be that bad.
They soon arrived at the Yungao Shop. Gao Ji did not ask the servant to buy cakes, but went there himself.
Before getting off the car, he invited Ji Zheng, "Brother Ji, do you want to go and have a look? The cakes of Yungaofang are very popular in Beijing."
There were still a lot of pastries at home, but since Gao Ji said so, Ji Zheng thought about going to take a look and buy some for Ji Hean that he had never eaten before.
As expected of the most popular pastry shop in Beijing, as soon as they got off the car, they saw a long line of people in front of the shop.
"Fortunately we came early, so there aren't too many people lining up right now."
Gao Ji strode towards that direction with a look of relief on his face.
Ji Zheng also hurriedly followed. Looking at such a big scene, he was a little curious about how delicious the cakes from Yungaofang would be.
The two waited in line for an incense stick of time, and finally it was their turn.
On Gao Ji's recommendation, Ji Zheng bought Yungaofang's signature red bean cake.
After buying the cakes, the two set out on their way home. Although they both lived in Qing Street, one lived on the east side of Qing Street and the other on the west side. When they reached the fork in the road, they separated.
When he arrived home, Ji Zheng heard Ji Hean's voice before he got off the carriage.
"Why are you at the door?"
As soon as they got off the carriage, Ji Zheng strode forward and took Ji and An inside.
"Waiting for you. You came back a little late today."
"I met a colleague on the way and talked to him for a while." Ji Zheng handed the red bean cake in his hand to Ji Hean, "Then we went to Lan Street to buy some cakes."
"It's from Yungaofang!" Ji Hean held the paper bag in his hands in surprise, looking at Ji Zheng with a happy face, "Mu Ya just told us at noon that the cakes here are delicious, but I didn't expect you to buy some back in the evening!"
Seeing Ji Hean so happy, Ji Zheng was very glad that he followed Gao Ji to buy pastries.
Seeing Ji Hean eagerly opening the paper package, Ji Zheng reminded him, "You can only eat a little bit, because we will have dinner later."
Ji Hean nodded without turning his head and said, "Okay."
Looking at the little foodie look, Ji Zheng smiled and shook his head lovingly, then turned and went into the inner room to change out of his officer uniform.
However, although Ji He An was greedy, he was very sensible and listened to Ji Zheng, so he only ate a little.
"This is delicious!" Ji Hean took the red bean cake that he had taken a bite of and stuffed it into Ji Zheng's mouth.
Ji Zheng opened his mouth and ate it naturally. The crust was soft and glutinous, the red bean filling was very delicate, and the sweetness was just right, sweet but not greasy.
He nodded in agreement, "It's delicious. If you like it, ask someone to buy it."
Ji Hean nodded with a smile, turned around and took out two more red bean cakes from the paper bag, muttering, "This one is for Zhongzhong, this one is for Muya, and the rest is for me."
Listening to his little talk, Ji Zheng couldn't help but tease, "What about my share?"
Unexpectedly, Ji Zheng would say this. Ji Hean looked at Ji Zheng in confusion, "Ah?"
Ji Zheng pretended to be aggrieved and looked at Ji Hean, "You gave some to Ji Zhongzi and Mu Ya, why didn't you give some to me?"
"But what's mine is yours, isn't it?"
Ji Hean said this very seriously, and Ji Zheng's heart softened immediately. It turned out that in his baby's heart, they were one.
I couldn't help but walk over and hugged him and gave him a kiss, "Baby, what you said makes sense. I was wrong."
Ji Zheng's behavior seemed very puzzling to Ji Hean.
The two of them kissed and hugged each other for a while before going out to the living room to eat.
....
"It's finally over!"
The officials who were counting the weapons stood up and stretched their bodies. Looking at the pile of weapon registration books, they sighed, "Fortunately, Brother Ji is here this year, otherwise we would probably need another half a month."
Ji Zheng didn't react. They had been praising him from time to time these days, but he was immune to it.
"This year, our department should have had the easiest time."
A few people who had nothing to do started chatting.
"Hahaha, we just need to pretend to do it next."
Hearing this, Ji Zheng couldn't help but laugh. It turned out that slacking off was something that workers were best at no matter where they were or at any time.
"How about we go have a drink together after we finish our shift?"
"It's too ostentatious now. Let's wait until after all the audiences are over." Gao Ji refused.
The others nodded as well. "We are free, but I heard that the people researching new weapons are very busy right now. Everyone is busy all the time."
"Yes."
"I also heard that the higher-ups have issued an order that the Ministry of Industry must develop weapons with stronger lethality this year. The Minister and the Vice Minister are now very anxious every day."
"No wonder I heard from the people who were developing the weapons that the Minister and the Vice Minister have been running there all day these days. So this is the reason."
When thinking of weapons with high lethality, the first thing that popped into Ji Zheng's mind was gunpowder.
