Chapter 29

Chapter 29

After the welcome speech, the Bigfoot turned around and went back, just like his other companions.

Facing the campfire, only the two of them were left with silent backs.

By the light of the fire, Ji Dongzang looked carefully at the seven natives.

They are covered in slightly dull black fur, and their iconic giant feet are particularly eye-catching.

The hair on the top of the head stands up in a very "unruly" way.

"Look at them."

Ji Dongzang couldn't help but nudge Xia Changjie next to him with his elbow and complained in a low voice.

"Does it look like a bunch of burnt...Patrick Stars?"

Xia Changjie didn't respond to this obviously inappropriate joke.

She tried to use clearer sentences to ask the Bigfoots about the situation, express her gratitude, and even tentatively ask a few questions.

However, all she got in response was dead silence.

Apart from the initial "welcome", the Bigfoots seemed to have completely forgotten that there were two living people in the house.

They never looked at them again from beginning to end, and completely ignored Xia Changjie's voice.

Beside the campfire, seven huge figures just sat in silence.

His whole body exuded a feeling of exhaustion that was even more thorough than the long journeys Ji Dongzang and Xia Changjie had experienced.

It was as if the soul had been drained away, leaving only the body mechanically absorbing the warmth of the campfire.

The two looked at each other in dismay.

I had no choice but to observe this temporary shelter on my own.

The wooden house was extremely simple, almost bare, with only a few rough wooden items scattered in the corners.

The space was already crowded enough to accommodate seven Bigfoots, and now with two people squeezed in, it was so cramped that it was hard to breathe.

Ji Dongzang felt inexplicably suffocated.

She stood up, walked a few steps to the shaky-looking wooden door, and reached out to grasp the cold bolt.

Just when she exerted force with her fingertips and tried to open the door!

Swish!

No transitions, no dizziness!

She was in a warm wooden house one second, and the next second, the biting cold wind carried snow foam and hit her face fiercely.

She was now alone, standing in the familiar, deadly snowfield.

"what the hell?!"

Ji Dongzang's heart was pounding and he looked around quickly.

Fortunately, not far in front of her left, the familiar simple wooden house stood proudly in the wind and snow.

The warm orange light of the fire still shone through the window.

Without hesitation, she raised her foot and walked towards the cabin.

Something strange happened!

She took a step forward, and the wooden house seemed to take a step back simultaneously, without the distance between them shortening at all.

She didn't believe it and ran faster.

The result is even worse!

Not only did the wooden house not get closer, but it quickly shrank and moved away from her sight!

Try it in reverse!

Ji Dongzang immediately stopped, turned around abruptly, and strode in the completely opposite direction of the wooden house.

After walking a few steps, she turned back.

That damn wooden house was now standing right behind her, not too far away, not too close, and not too far away!

The distance was exactly the same as before she took a step.

The rules are locked.

No matter how she tried to cut in diagonally, detour, or even change direction suddenly, the wooden house seemed to adjust the angle and distance precisely.

Always stubbornly maintain that fixed distance in front of or behind her.

Finally, the cold reality was before her:

In this strange snowfield, she only has two directions to choose from - forward or backward.

And the door leading to warmth will always be an unattainable illusion.

Ji Dongzang gritted his teeth and tried to take a step forward.

However, every step she took sunk deeper into the increasingly violent snowstorm, and the snow quickly reached her knees and waist, almost burying her alive!

Even worse was the wooden house that symbolized warmth.

It became increasingly transparent and thin in the falling snow, as if it would disappear into pure white at any time.

This scene is very similar to the desperate cycle when first entering the snowfield.

She absolutely did not want to go through another year of hardship and finally come here broken into pieces.

U-turn!

She turned around abruptly and took heavy steps backwards.

Every few steps, she looked back vigilantly.

The wooden house still remained at a distance from her, not too far away.

Changes are happening quietly:

The snow is receding.

The snow beneath my feet thinned and melted at a speed visible to the naked eye, revealing the cold, hard ground underneath.

The wooden house is solidifying.

The originally translucent outline of the wooden house quickly became clear and thick, and even... emitted an invisible sense of heaviness!

This heaviness is no illusion!

Soon, Ji Dongzang felt an irresistible pressure.

Her spine was bent and her knees were shaking.

The ground beneath my feet also changed from frozen soil to sticky mud.

She became the coolie of the wooden house, dragging it forward with difficulty.

Crunch——

The shoulder blades made a crackling sound under the heavy pressure.

The rough fabric was torn, and the thin shoulders were instantly torn!

Warm blood seeped through the tattered cloth and dripped onto the gradually exposed brown ground.

Smashing out dark pits...

Tick-tock…tick-tock…

In the warm wooden house, Xia Changjie was standing by the only small window, trying to find Ji Dongzang's trace.

There is only endless snow outside the window.

Sudden!

Her pupils shrank slightly, and a drop of glaring red appeared on the snow not far from the window without any warning!

Then, the second drop, the third drop...

The bright red blood spots extended intermittently into the depths of the snowfield, pointing to an unknown distance.

That direction was quickly completely swallowed up by the surging wind and snow, and no trace could be seen anymore.

Xia Changjie suddenly stepped back from the window, his brows furrowed.

She once again walked towards the seven Bigfoots sitting numbly around the campfire.

Whether she asked in a raised voice, tried to touch, or even pushed tentatively.

These huge creatures showed no reaction, treating her as if she were air.

Communication is ineffective and there is no way to seek help.

Her gaze returned to the small window. The wind and snow were howling outside, and the traces of blood were probably mostly covered by the new snow.

A bold and crude idea took shape in her mind.

Xia Changjie no longer hesitated.

She walked straight towards the closest Bigfoot, which looked slightly smaller.

Ignoring the other person's empty and numb eyes, she grabbed the other person's thick, hairy arms tightly with both hands.

He leaned back and began to drag with all his strength.

"stand up!"

She let out a low roar, and burst out with amazing strength, dragging the bigfoot as heavy as a mountain away from the campfire!

The other person was dragged towards the door like a heavy puppet without any resistance.

Xia Changjie freed one hand, roughly grabbed Bigfoot's fan-like palm, pressed it on the cold door bolt, and pushed down hard!

squeak.

The wooden door opened!

The moment the door opened, the Bigfoot, which was used as a "key", disappeared instantly.

Xia Changjie didn't hesitate at all and stepped out of the wooden door.

The light and shadow in front of my eyes are violently distorted!

When his sight refocused, what caught his eyes was no longer the piercing whiteness of snow, but——

The crimson, terraced canyon walls are covered with eerie willow branch statues.

She's back! Back to that strange canyon.

My vision suddenly became clear.

Xia Changjie found himself standing side by side with Ji Dongzang on a slightly elevated natural stone platform in the center of the canyon.

Below the stone platform are strange animal statues made of twisted and coiled willow branches.

Like silent guards, they stood densely in the open space, their postures frozen and their looks gloomy.

What illuminates this space is the ghostly green fire floating in the air.

They just burned out of thin air.

At this moment, these cold flames seemed to have life, flowing and swirling slowly.

Finally, they gathered into a complete circle at the edge of the stone platform, trapping the two people firmly in the center.

Xia Changjie quickly glanced at Ji Dongzang beside him, and the other party did not seem to have any obvious external injuries.

This was obviously not the time to exchange experiences in the Bigfoot world, so she lowered her voice and asked directly, "When did you come back?"

"Same as you, just now."

Ji Dongzang gave a brief answer, his eyes warily scanning the statue below and the will-o'-the-wisp above his head.

She tried to step towards the edge of the stone platform, intending to go down.

Buzz!

The dark green flames on the edge of the stone platform suddenly shot up and swayed, interweaving into an invisible wall of fire.

Her way was blocked completely!

That posture clearly forbids leaving.

The two were in a stalemate with this group of spiritual flames.

Just then.

A suffocatingly sweet aroma filled the nostrils of both of them without any warning!

A primitive, indescribable impulse instantly swept through my body.

She wanted to get down on all fours and run.

Ji Dongzang bit his tongue hard, and only with the severe pain and his remaining sanity did he manage to suppress this absurd instinct.

She suppressed the dizziness and nausea and looked towards the source of the fragrance.

The slender "ghost" in the dark red robe appeared again.

But its mount is no longer the rock Cyclops from last time.

Instead, there was a more twisted beast that exuded the aura of the abyss.

It had a pair of tattered, bat-like, huge fleshy wings on its back, covered with sticky black scales.

A thick, barbed lizard tail dragged along the ground, leaving a sticky trail wherever it passed.

The lower limbs are anti-jointed, huge hoofs covered with horny layers.

The upper limbs are a pair of tightly muscled arms with sharp, slender claws at the end.

The head barely retained a humanoid outline, but it had a pair of long, pointed ears and a huge mouth that was split to the base of the ears and filled with fine, sharp teeth.

This is an undefinable mass of pure terror.

The strong and disgusting aroma emanated from this monster, almost condensing into substance, blocking Ji Dongzang's nasal cavity and brain.

Fortunately, a breeze blew by at the right time, slightly dispelling the suffocating sweetness.

As the robed monster slowly approached on its terrifying mount, the sound of the wind in the canyon suddenly became faster.

The wind no longer whimpered, but crashed against the rock wall with a deafening boom! boom! boom!

The violent wind, the flickering will-o'-the-wisp fire, the pervasive strange fragrance, the approaching monster, the silent statue below...

All the elements are intertwined together to form an extremely evil and grand sacrificial picture!

In a trance, Ji Dongzang's consciousness seemed to be pulled by an invisible force.

A clear and terrifying thought emerged:

She and Xia Changjie are the sacrifices of this unknown sacrifice!

At the moment when their consciousness was confused by the fragrance and the scene, the two of them leaned forward uncontrollably as if they were hypnotized.

Puff! Puff!

They actually took the initiative to throw themselves into the circle of green ghost fire that surrounded them.

But the expected burning and destruction did not come.
