Chapter 5
Before Ji Dongzang could say anything, he saw a man rushing towards him from a distance.
His speed is obviously faster than that of ordinary people. I don’t know whether it is a natural talent or a gift brought by the mutation.
At this moment, there was only pure, almost fanatical excitement on the man's face, and he rushed towards them with a clear goal.
Ji Dongzang's eyes glared, and he pushed the frail woman behind him back. "Stand back," she said in a low voice, and before she finished speaking, she had already taken a few steps towards the man.
Wang Shanyue understood what he meant and immediately retreated to a corner with the child in her arms, minimizing herself and the child to the smallest possible target. She followed Ji Dongzang's figure closely, making up her mind: If Ji Dongzang was defeated, she would rush to help him at all costs and not let innocent people get hurt.
Ji Dongzang shook his wrist, threw away the electric baton, and slashed at the man with the blade without mercy.
The man's body was strange and he dodged very quickly. After a few rounds, he seemed to be tired of this kind of fighting. When Ji Dongzang slashed at him, he caught the white blade with his palm.
When Ji Dongzang slashed down with a fierce knife, he did not dodge or evade. Instead, he suddenly raised his left hand, spread out his five fingers, and grabbed the blade directly!
His hands were obviously those of a wealthy man, with delicate skin and white palms. The moment the blade cut into his palms, it almost cut them off.
A hint of surprise flashed across Ji Dongzang's eyes, and her eyebrows raised slightly. She didn't draw her sword, but instead, using the other person's grip on the blade, she suddenly pressed her wrist downward!
With a dull thud, four fingers, along with half of the palm, were forcibly severed and flung away! Blood gushed out from the severed palm.
The man seemed to feel the pain again and quickly shook his injured arm, but his other hand reached out for the electric baton in Ji Dongzang's hand regardless, intending to snatch it away.
Ji Dongzang's eyes were icy, and he slashed with his sword again. The man finally felt fear and retreated awkwardly.
Unfortunately, it's too late.
Ji Dongzang held the dagger and thrust it deep into the man's throat.
She held the man against the electric baton and used the force to pull out the dagger.
The man fell on his back and didn't move anymore.
Ji Dongzang rushed forward, holding the dagger tightly in his right hand. With his left hand, he used the electric baton to block the opponent's hasty resistance. With unparalleled precision and all his strength, he stabbed the dagger into the man's throat!
"Ugh..." A broken hoarse sound came from the man's throat. Ji Dongzang didn't hesitate. He used the electric baton against his body as a fulcrum and exerted force, forcibly pulling out the deeply embedded hand spike!
The man's body trembled violently, and the madness in his eyes quickly faded, leaving only emptiness. He fell heavily to the ground face down, without a sound.
Wang Shanyue watched her husband fall to the ground, dead. Li Mao's body was still bleeding. The air was thick with the smell of blood, mixed with a hint of a familiar scent. She felt her body agitated, her eyes fixed.
Ji Dongzang shook off the blood droplets on his thorns and turned around. What caught his eye was Wang Shanyue's unusual appearance—her mouth was slightly open, and her other teeth were normal, except for her four canines, which were becoming slender, sharp, and flashing with a cold light at a speed visible to the naked eye.
This change came suddenly and drastically. Looking at Wang Shanyue's dazed expression, it was likely that even she herself had not yet noticed her own transformation.
Ji Dongzang couldn't tell whether the surging in the woman's eyes was desire or attachment, and he was even less sure whether they had ever had any intersection.
She calmly moved to the side, blocking the lifeless male corpse on the ground.
"Are you alone?" The voice was cold as usual.
Wang Shanyue's gaze shifted from the corpse to Ji Dongzang's face. She was startled for a moment, then nodded, then slowly shook her head. She clutched the swaddled baby tightly in her arms and said, "That... is my husband. Now, I'm alone."
She slowly squatted down, her movements a little clumsy, but her voice was remarkably steady. "My husband and I came here to wait for the rescue vehicle from the shelter. Unexpectedly, my water broke today... and the birth was delayed. He went out to check on the situation, and when he returned to the lounge," she paused, not describing the horrific scene, "he looked like he did just now, and rushed towards me like a madman."
Ji Dongzang listened quietly and nodded symbolically: "Are you hurt? What are you going to do next?"
"No, thank you for saving me." Wang Shanyue's eyes fell on her bare feet. "My car is in the underground garage, and I plan to go home first. Are you going anywhere? I can take you there."
"No need." Ji Dongzang refused flatly, turned around and walked towards the stairs, "It's okay, I'm leaving first."
Wang Shanyue, holding the child, stood barefoot in her place, and raised her voice towards Ji Dongzang's rapidly receding figure: "My name is Wang Shanyue! What's your name?"
"Ji Dongzang." Three words floated up from the bottom of the stairs, and she didn't look back.
Ji Dongzang walked down dejectedly. The man just now was too weak. His attack was disorganized, he just rushed forward blindly, and he was even so foolish as to catch the blade with his bare hands... It was like he was going to die.
That woman, Wang Shanyue, had already shown clear signs of alienation. Ji Dongzang could almost foresee that she was not far from going completely insane.
Less trouble is better than more. She shouldn't have come out in the first place.
How disappointing.
Only after Ji Dongzang's figure completely disappeared around the corner of the stairs did Wang Shanyue slowly turn around, holding the child, and walk upstairs. From beginning to end, her eyes did not fall on the baby's face in her arms.
The child was also unusually quiet, neither crying nor making a fuss.
Ji Dongzang walked down the stairs step by step, feeling a little regretful.
I left in such a hurry that I forgot to take everything with me. I could only accept my fate and return to Wen Lan's lounge.
As soon as he reached the staircase on the 28th floor, Ji Dongzang saw Wen Lan standing by the door. She was playing with the pistol Ji Dongzang had left behind, with the muzzle casually pointed towards the empty space.
Seeing Ji Dongzang appear, Wen Lan handed the pistol back to her: "What happened down there?"
"When you see injustice, draw your sword and help." Ji Dongzang said perfunctorily and pushed Wen Lan's wheelchair.
Seeing that she had no intention of saying more, Wen Lan tactfully stopped asking.
Ten thirty in the evening.
After taking a shower, Ji Dongzang lay on the sofa and played with her phone. She sank into the sofa, wearing Wen Lan's clothes, which were a little loose, but comfortable.
Under the warm yellow light of the balcony, Wen Lan was carefully wiping Ji Dongzang's knife.
Someone is willing to do the work for you, so Ji Dongzang can relax and enjoy the life with peace of mind.
She woke up at noon today and has no desire to sleep at all.
After a while, Wen Lan came out of the bedroom with an antique oil-paper umbrella in her hand.
That is Ji Dongzang’s umbrella.
"Return the item to its original owner." Wen Lan gently placed the umbrella on the sofa next to Ji Dongzang.
Rainy and foggy day half a year ago
Mingxin Bridge at 10pm
Silence all around
The wheelchair stopped at the bottom of the stairs, and Wen Lan moved forward with crutches, holding the railing and preparing to flip out. Wen Lan moved forward step by step with crutches, and the rain soaked her clothes.
She finally reached the icy railing and tried to climb over it with all her might.
The cane jerked from her wet hands, and she fell heavily into the cold rain, splashing mud everywhere.
It was at this moment that Ji Dongzang appeared. She was only five or six steps away from Wen Lan. This woman, standing in the middle of the road, desperately seeking death, had inadvertently blocked her path.
Ji Dongzang stopped and stood quietly aside, not wanting to disturb this private farewell. She planned to wait until the woman completed her leap before quietly leaving.
She watched as the woman struggled to her feet, exhausting all her strength to reach the railing, but ultimately failed to make it over, falling to the ground once again...
Ji Dongzang held an umbrella and took two steps forward.
Wen Lan was struggling to stand up again when a pair of black leather boots stained with raindrops suddenly appeared in her sight. The rain was blocked outside the umbrella canopy.
She raised her head and looked at the woman's face. Ji Dongzang held up his umbrella and looked towards the center of the lake.
The woman holding the umbrella suddenly spoke, her voice piercing the rain with an odd calmness: "I was thinking of jumping today, too. But seeing you here, I don't want to jump anymore."
Wen Lan wiped the rain and mud off his face.
The handle of an oil-paper umbrella, still warm from her body, was pressed into her cold palm. The woman's voice rang out again, clear and crisp: "You saved my life, too. I'll leave this umbrella to you."
"If you jump," she paused, "please leave your umbrella here, I will come back to get it. If you leave..." Her gaze finally withdrew from the lake and briefly fell on Wen Lan's face, "Then remember to return it to me next time we meet."
Wen Lan held the oil-paper umbrella and watched her leave.
"What a coincidence." Ji Dongzang took the oil-paper umbrella.
"I thought you didn't recognize me." Wen Lan said.
"How could that be?" Ji Dongzang lied calmly, "I thought you threw away the umbrella a long time ago, so I didn't mention it."
She didn't see Wen Lan's face clearly at that time, so how could she recognize him?
Wen Lan didn't say anything else. She just wanted to return the things to her.
She was very tired, so she went back to the house to rest and let Ji Dongzang do whatever he wanted.
Ji Dongzang had no desire to sleep. She fished out her elevator card, went downstairs, and changed her shoes, leaving her old, blood-stained pair behind. Grabbing a small backpack nearby, she took the elevator up to the top floor again.
On the 31st floor, she searched room by room. Her findings were meager, except for six two-headed snakes in one room. One had been killed in a fight between two snakes in the box; the others lay coiled, quiet and almost docile, showing no signs of aggression.
After searching all the way to the 28th floor, Ji Dongzang still couldn't find what she was looking for. Feeling sleepy, she turned her hopes to the place where Xu Jing had been—the room filled with mirrors.
Her eyes fell on an open safe, the contents of which had clearly not been moved. Ji Dongzang's eyes lit up: Inside lay the .357 Magnum ammunition she desperately needed. Two boxes, one full with twenty rounds, the other with twelve remaining. She quickly stuffed them into her backpack, along with the two carved claw knives from the safe.
