Chapter 26 The Variety Show That Was Hacked

Xia Chuyue filmed diligently for half a month, and her agency finally remembered that she existed.

"Hey? Xia Chuyue, pack your things. You're going to be a guest on a travel variety show tomorrow."

Xia Chuyue's agent called her, speaking rudely as if Xia Chuyue should be grateful to the company for being on the variety show.

"This is only because you've been doing well lately. Otherwise, you wouldn't have had the chance to go on variety shows. Several of my stars wanted to go, but I didn't give them the opportunity."

The agent habitually uses psychological manipulation on Xia Chuyue, as if Xia Chuyue's appearance on the variety show was a huge stroke of luck.

In fact, Xia Chuyue knew that her agent must have made some kind of agreement with the variety show production team to make her appear negatively in order to highlight the other celebrities.

This wasn't the first time Xia Chuyue had experienced something like this.

When she first entered the industry, she was a complete newbie.

It was her first time appearing on a variety show, and she knew nothing about it. The production team gave her a script and asked Xia Chuyue to read a few lines.

Xia Chuyue read it aloud as instructed.

However, in the final broadcast version, with those few lines added to the script, Xia Chuyue was portrayed as a complete brainless drama queen.

Compared to another female celebrity of the same period, she suddenly seemed like a pure and kind lily.

Xia Chuyue was relentlessly attacked on that variety show, and the few fans she had accumulated since her debut due to her looks were basically all gone.

That female celebrity has a huge number of fans, and even now, there are still a few who are mocking Xia Chuyue on Weibo.

After appearing on variety shows, Xia Chuyue gained experience and mostly stood in a corner or out of the camera's view to avoid being edited out of place again.

Hearing her agent's words, Xia Chuyue responded with an indifferent "oh".

"Then give it to the artists who want to go, I don't want to go."

The agent has figured out Xia Chuyue's temper over the years, but still gets annoyed by her cold attitude.

"You think you can just skip it because you don't want to?! Do you know how much the penalty for breach of contract is for this variety show?! Pack your things now, the cameramen and makeup artists from the production team will be here tomorrow!"

Xia Chuyue clicked her tongue and put the script down temporarily.

"I didn't sign a contract. Whoever signed it can go."

Having been in the business for several years, Xia Chuyue has become quite shrewd and rarely signs any contracts.

Signing a contract is a trap.

The agent was truly furious, but thinking of the penalty for breach of contract, he gritted his teeth and suppressed his anger before speaking.

"You are now an artist under the company and have the right to cooperate with the work arranged by the company. Don't be stubborn. This variety show is a good opportunity for you."

Xia Chuyue didn't believe a word her agent said.

"I didn't sign a contract, I'm not going."

The agent was so angry he wanted to smash his phone.

After being comforted by the people around him, he managed to calm himself down.

"I know what you mean, you just think the appearance fee is too low? Let me tell you, this time they actually gave you a lot of money. Didn't you enter the industry just to make money?"

This statement hit Xia Chuyue right where it hurts.

She was signed to this company while she was in college because of her good looks, not for any other reason than that she thought she could earn more money in the entertainment industry.

Xia Chuyue was born in an orphanage in a small town with limited funding. The director had to take the children to collect waste paper bottles to supplement their income.

Of those, only Xia Chuyue made it to a big city.

Xia Chuyue sent most of the money she earned in the entertainment industry back home.

Unfortunately, there were too many children in the orphanage, and the agency that Xia Chuyue signed with was a disaster. Over the years, she has been constantly targeted and hasn't earned much money.

Popular celebrities rely on their youth for their careers, and Xia Chuyue should also plan for her future, saving more money so she can retire early and live a peaceful life.

Upon hearing her agent's words, Xia Chuyue remained silent for a few seconds, a rare occurrence.

"Okay, but I want 70%."

Upon hearing Xia Chuyue's outrageous demands, the agent immediately swore.

"Seventy percent! Even the company's top star only dares to take seventy percent when appearing on variety shows, you really dare to ask for that much!"

Xia Chuyue smiled; she was in a good mood.

"There's nothing I can do; I was there to be hacked."

Xia Chuyue knew perfectly well why she was going on variety shows!

The agent couldn't help but feel a little embarrassed when Xia Chuyue pointed it out directly.

But he didn't have anyone he could use. Considering that the celebrity had specifically asked Xia Chuyue to be his supporting actress, he gritted his teeth and agreed.

"Okay, 70% it is! The appearance fee is over a million in total. I'll transfer the rest to your account tomorrow after you're on the show!"

To prevent people from taking money and not doing any work in early summer!

Xia Chuyue's eyes lit up immediately when she heard that the appearance fee was so high.

"Okay, bro, I'll be there on time tomorrow."

After working for several years, Xia Chuyue finally got a job that could earn her money, and her attitude became much more positive.

That evening, after confirming the schedule, Xia Chuyue received information about the program's staff from the variety show director.

Xia Chuyue spotted a familiar name at a glance.

Jiang Yan.

Xia Chuyue's first variety show was only criticized because it was designed to highlight her.

At that time, Jiang Yan already had two idol dramas to her name, and was seen as a pure and kind female lead by the industry and her fans.

However, Jiang Yan lacked variety show sense and was rather pretentious, resulting in a poor performance on variety shows.

The broadcast results were even less than satisfactory, so their company had other ideas and wanted to find a newly debuted star to be a stepping stone for Jiang Yan.

Unfortunately, Xia Chuyue became that stepping stone.

After being contrasted with Xia Chuyue, Jiang Yan suddenly became an innocent and pitiful girl in the variety show, and her image was completely reversed.
