"Young Master! Young Master, you can't touch it like that!"
A gasp rang out, and Wang Xiuxiu looked in the direction of the sound, only to see a group of maids tightly surrounding Xiaoyu.
Yu Ge'er is the young master of the Cheng family and is usually the most pampered. At this moment, he is curiously fiddling with a dark object.
Wang Xiuxiu suddenly had an idea.
"Oh, what's this?" Wang Xiuxiu squatted down, holding up a dark, holey paper tube and feigning confusion.
At this moment, a maid who knew her well came over and took a look, then said, "These are the shells of firecrackers that have been set off."
Wang Xiuxiu nodded, then asked, "Is all the gunpowder in here gone? It shouldn't be dangerous, right?"
The maid replied, "Yes, even if it's not dangerous, it's still quite dirty. Don't take it anymore; someone will come to clean it up first thing tomorrow morning."
After hearing this, Wang Xiuxiu clapped her hands lightly, seemingly unintentionally dropping the cardboard box on the ground, and then followed the maid out.
Meanwhile, Yu Ge'er on the other side had clearly overheard their entire conversation.
So, she picked up a firecracker box in a very serious manner and held it tightly in her little hand.
"Oh my little darling! How could you hold that in your hand?"
Several maids reached out to snatch it.
But how could Yu-ge'er agree?
He pouted, his eyes reddened, and he looked like he was about to burst into tears.
Upon seeing this, the head maidservant knew in her heart that something was wrong and quickly spoke up to stop it.
"Be careful not to make the young master cry! On this joyous day, the old master will definitely be unhappy if he hears crying. Let him have it if he wants it. The gunpowder is all gone. Just wash it before we go back."
As for Yu Ge'er, she immediately stopped crying as soon as she got what she had been longing for.
He excitedly picked up the cardboard box and began to play with it happily, as if he had obtained a rare treasure.
Taking advantage of the moment when the maids weren't paying attention, the little guy took off running back the way he came.
This scene was witnessed by Wang Xiuxiu, who was standing to the side.
This is actually a little habit of Yu Ge's. He likes the First Madam, so whenever he sees something fun, he can't wait to take it to the First Madam to share and show it off.
The maids chased after him, and just as they were about to catch up, Yu Dai suddenly appeared out of nowhere and bumped into him.
"Ouch!" Yu Dai cried out softly, her body swayed, and she fell to the ground.
The maids, who were already anxious, lost their balance and fell to the ground when she bumped into them.
In an instant, skirts fluttered, hair was disheveled, and maids scrambled to their feet, calling out repeatedly, "Young Master! Young Master!"
Yu Dai sat on the ground, feigning innocence, rubbing her forehead and complaining softly, "Why did you run so fast? You bumped into me and made me dizzy."
The maids had no time to pay attention to her. They hurriedly got up and looked up to see the young master already running into the main hall, his back view as cheerful as a little rabbit.
"It's all over! It's all over!" A maid stamped her feet in panic. "How are we going to explain this to Madam?!"
Yu Dai slowly stood up, dusted off her skirt, and said with feigned concern, "Oh dear, don't worry about me, go and check on him, make sure the young master doesn't get hurt."
The maids panicked and, no longer paying attention to her, hurriedly ran towards the main hall.
Yu Dai watched their flustered backs and pursed her lips.
Once the young master enters the main hall, nature will take care of him; no matter how anxious the maids are, it's no use.
She clapped her hands lightly, turned and walked in another direction, her steps light and quick, as if the chaos just now had nothing to do with her.
The maids hurried after them.
Originally, they were thinking of taking the things back from the young master, but as soon as they touched them, Yu Ge'er immediately started crying loudly again.
The tears flowed like a burst dam, giving the maids no chance whatsoever.
The atmosphere inside the hall was harmonious and joyful.
The First Madam held a cup of tea in her hand, her eyes smiling, and was chatting with the Old Madam beside her about the interesting things that had happened in the mansion recently.
Suddenly, a series of hurried footsteps approached from afar. Before she could even look up, a small figure rushed over like a whirlwind and grabbed her leg.
"Grandmother!" Yu Ge'er looked up, his eyes bright, his voice filled with urgency.
Caught off guard, the First Madam nearly dropped the teacup in her hand, spilling a few drops of tea onto her sleeve.
Looking down, she saw that Yu Ge'er's little hand was tightly gripping the hem of her skirt, and his hand was covered in black ash from somewhere, leaving a conspicuous handprint on her dress.
The First Madam was taken aback at first, then her brows furrowed almost imperceptibly, but quickly relaxed again.
She put down her teacup, bent down, and gently patted Yu-ge'er's back, her tone tender: "Yu-ge'er, what's wrong? Why didn't you greet the Ancestor first when you came in?"
“Grandmother…” Yu Ge’er looked up with her little face, her eyes red, her voice filled with grievance and urgency.
"Alright, Yu-ge'er, who upset you?"
Yu Ge'er didn't answer or move, but just sobbed even harder, clutching the Madam's clothes tightly with her little hands, as if afraid she would leave.
Seeing this, the First Madam was somewhat displeased, but she still maintained a loving smile and coaxed softly, "Alright, alright, don't cry. Grandmother is here. Let go of my hand, okay?"
However, Yu Ge'er seemed not to hear, and continued to cry and make a fuss, her voice growing louder and louder, drawing the attention of everyone in the hall.
The First Madam sighed inwardly, knowing that if things continued like this, the situation would be difficult to manage.
She raised her head and looked apologetically at the old ancestor sitting at the head of the table. She curtsied slightly and said, "Old Ancestor, Yu-ge'er is a child who is ignorant and has disturbed everyone's enjoyment. I will take him downstairs to change his clothes first, and he will come back to talk to you later."
The old ancestor nodded gently and said in a mild tone, "Go ahead, don't scold him. It doesn't matter if his clothes get dirty, just don't let him cry himself sick."
Upon hearing this, the First Madam felt a slight sense of relief and quickly replied, "Yes." She then gently pried open Yu Ge'er's little hands and picked him up.
She coaxed him softly as she walked out of the hall, her steps steady yet hurried.
Seeing this, everyone in the hall turned their attention away and resumed their conversation and laughter, as if the little incident had never happened.
The First Madam walked out of the main hall, glanced at Yu Ge'er in her arms, and then looked down at her clothes stained with mud. She couldn't help but feel a little annoyed.
She sighed softly and whispered to the maid beside her, "Let's go back to the courtyard first."
