Chapter 70 A Twist of Fate

Inside the second courtyard, Madam Cheng's face was terribly gloomy.

"Master, tell me, what's the deal with this undergarment?" Madam Cheng said through gritted teeth.

Master Cheng sat to the side, his face also looking rather grim.

He was completely drunk yesterday and has no recollection of what he did.

Now that the evidence is right in front of me, I don't know how to explain it for a while.

"Madam, I... I drank too much yesterday and really can't remember. This undergarment... perhaps someone deliberately framed me!" Master Cheng said, forcing himself to speak, his tone tinged with guilt.

Madam Cheng sneered, "Frame you? Who would be so bored as to use something like this to frame you? Sir, do you think I'm a three-year-old child who can be fooled by some random excuse?"

Master Cheng was speechless for a moment, and he was also a little annoyed.

He wasn't exactly a pushover; although he had a reputation for being henpecked, he was genuinely embarrassed by his wife's questioning.

"What do you mean by this? You suspect me of having an affair? From last night until now, are you ever going to stop?!" Master Cheng suddenly stood up, his tone filled with anger, and his voice unconsciously rose a few decibels.

Madam Cheng was not to be outdone. She slammed her hand on the table and stood up, her eyes blazing with anger: "Isn't that right? I saw this undergarment fall out of your arms with my own eyes! You explain to me how it ended up on you unless you did something shameful?"

The two were arguing fiercely when suddenly a series of hurried footsteps came from outside.

Immediately afterward, a maid rushed in and whispered to Madam Cheng, "Madam, tell our spies at Madam Cheng's place that... they say Sixth Concubine has been sent away!"

Madam Cheng was taken aback. "Sixth Concubine has been sent away? What happened?"

The maid shook her head. "I don't know either. I only heard that Sixth Madam made a mistake and was sent to the estate by the First Madam overnight. The Master also gave his permission."

Upon hearing this, Madam Cheng's face instantly turned extremely ugly.

Although she didn't have concrete evidence, she had a vague feeling that this matter was probably related to her husband's affairs.

She sized up Master Cheng from head to toe, her tone laced with sarcasm: "Hmph, it seems I'm not the only one in this manor who's having a run of bad luck! Master, if you don't confess honestly soon, you might be the next one to be sent away!"

Master Cheng panicked and hurriedly waved his hands, saying, "Madam, don't talk nonsense! I'm truly innocent! If you don't believe me... I'll go find my elder brother and ask him for clarification right away!"

After saying that, he was about to rush out of the room.

Upon seeing this, Madam Cheng became somewhat convinced.

With a wave of her hand, the old women outside the door immediately blocked the way completely, giving Master Cheng no chance to leave.

Master Cheng turned to look at his wife, his face full of anxiety and confusion: "Why are you stopping me? I'm just going to prove my innocence!"

Madam Cheng snorted coldly, her eyes filled with icy intent: "Prove your innocence? The eldest son's family might be waiting for you to walk into their trap! Do you think you can get away unscathed?"

Master Cheng was taken aback, then his expression changed drastically: "Does Madam mean... that the eldest son's wife plotted against me?"

Madam Cheng's tone was laced with sarcasm: "What, only now do you realize? Do you think your elder brother and sister-in-law are kind people? It's not impossible that the two of them conspired against you!"

The more Master Cheng thought about it, the more likely what Madam Cheng said seemed. He became flustered, but still said, "Impossible. We still have something on our eldest brother. How could he dare to collude with his sister-in-law to do such a thing?"

Madam Cheng sneered, her eyes full of mockery: "Why wouldn't you dare? Maybe your eldest brother slipped up and our sister-in-law found out, so she orchestrated this whole thing to get rid of us!"

Upon hearing this, Master Cheng's hands and feet went weak: "Then, Madam, what should we do?"

A shrewd glint flashed in Madam Cheng's eyes: "What else can we do? We'll just ignore it! Isn't the eldest son's family deliberately setting us up? If we don't get involved, no matter how much this matter escalates, it's still just our own family matter! I'll make sure all her scheming goes wrong!"

"Brilliant! You're so clever, Madam!"

Madam Cheng snorted coldly, "Don't try to sweet-talk me! Let's let this go for now, but if it happens again, you'll see..."

Before Madam Cheng could finish speaking, Master Cheng immediately beamed and repeatedly assured her, "Don't worry, Madam, there will never be a next time! I will be careful with my words and actions in the future and will never cause you any more trouble!"

Madam Cheng the Second didn't entirely believe him, but she didn't want to get entangled with him any longer and make a fool of herself in front of the eldest son's family!

"Alright, you can go now," Madam Cheng waved her hand, her voice tinged with weariness.

Master Cheng felt as if he had been granted a pardon, and hurriedly bowed and scraped as he withdrew, secretly relieved.

After Master Cheng left, Madam Cheng sat in the room, her eyes filled with ruthlessness.

"First wife's family...you think you can outmaneuver me like this? Hmph, let's see what other tricks you have up your sleeve!"
