Chapter 96 Unwilling

The driver was indeed very skilled, and he timed it perfectly. Before it got completely dark, the group had already arrived at the inn.

The afterglow of the setting sun shone on the inn's signboard, giving it a rustic charm.

Wang Xiuxiu found herself in an awkward situation upon checking in.

She had no choice and was directly arranged to live with Lu Jingze.

Despite his reluctance, he dared not say much, after all, he had just angered him on the way, and he could not add fuel to the fire.

Lu Jingze's guards adapted very quickly. In just a few days, they had gotten used to Wang Xiuxiu's presence and were neither close to her nor distant from her.

"My lord, my sleeping posture isn't very good." Wang Xiuxiu had barely opened her mouth when she received Lu Jingze's cold gaze. Her heart tightened, and she quickly changed her words, "But I can change! How about we start today!"

After saying that, she felt her cheeks burning and quickly lowered her head, not daring to look at him again.

To avoid embarrassment, Wang Xiuxiu took a quick shower while Lu Jingze was talking to his subordinates.

On the other side, Lu Jingze was listening to his subordinate's report.

"At our current pace, we should arrive in Liangzhou in about five more days," the subordinate said respectfully.

“Alright, Governor Wang will take at least five or six days to arrive from the capital, about the same time as us. Let’s proceed at that pace and try to stay at the inn to rest as much as possible,” Lu Jingze instructed calmly.

"Yes." The subordinate responded and withdrew.

Judging by the time, Lu Jingze felt that Wang Xiuxiu should have finished bathing by now.

He left his subordinates behind, a smile on his face, and went straight upstairs.

The guards downstairs looked at each other and couldn't help but whisper among themselves.

One of the subordinates said, "Am I seeing things? Our master is smiling?"

Subordinate 2: "His face was radiant with spring breeze!"

Wang Xiuxiu lay in bed, feeling somewhat annoyed.

If she had known Lu Jingze would be back so late, she would have soaked in the tub a little longer. How annoying!

"Bang, bang." A knock sounded on the door.

"Xiuxiu, open the door." Lu Jingze's voice came from outside the door.

Wang Xiuxiu then remembered that she had locked the door when she took a shower, and hurriedly ran to open the door while sucking on her shoes.

By the time Lu Jingze turned around and closed the door, she had already run back to bed and wrapped herself tightly in the blanket.

Her hair wasn't completely dry yet; a few strands were still stuck together, lazily draped over her shoulders.

Lu Jingze's gaze lingered on her for a moment, making Wang Xiuxiu feel a little uneasy.

After a long while, Lu Jingze turned around and sat down at the table, picked up the teapot, and poured himself a cup of tea.

He took a slow sip and then tapped the table lightly.

"Come here, I brought you some osmanthus cake," he said casually.

Upon hearing this, Wang Xiuxiu's eyes lit up immediately, and she happily got out of bed.

She carefully picked up a piece of osmanthus cake, afraid of ruining its shape.

She parted her lips slightly, took a bite, and the delicate texture and sweet taste immediately brought a happy smile to her face.

She savored it slowly, occasionally letting out a satisfied "Mmm~" sound.

After finishing one bite, he couldn't wait to take a second bite, looking just like a child who had received a beloved toy.

"Delicious?" Lu Jingze asked knowingly.

"Uh-huh!"

When she ate something delicious, her eyes curved into crescent moons, and the corners of her mouth turned up slightly, revealing two adorable dimples.

Wang Xiuxiu thought for a moment, then picked up a piece of osmanthus cake and handed it to Lu Jingze.

She thought he would take it, but to her surprise, he leaned down slightly, approached her hand, opened his mouth, and bit into the osmanthus cake.

His tongue accidentally brushed against her fingers, and at that moment, their eyes met, and time seemed to stand still.

An ambiguous atmosphere filled the air, and Wang Xiuxiu's heart instantly raced.

Lu Jingze chewed his food slowly, his eyes never leaving her face.

His eyes held a hint of tenderness, as if he were pleased with this unintentional contact.

Wang Xiuxiu felt embarrassed and tried to pull her hand away, but Lu Jingze held her fingers tightly, not letting her leave even for a moment.

"Are you full?" he asked softly, his voice carrying a hint of ambiguity.

Wang Xiuxiu's face turned even redder, and she nodded hurriedly.

"That's good." Lu Jingze said, and then suddenly picked her up in his arms.

Wang Xiuxiu exclaimed in surprise and instinctively wrapped her arms around his neck.

When she realized what was happening and struggled to get down, Lu Jingze pretended to let go.

Startled, Wang Xiuxiu immediately wrapped her arms around his neck again, and unconsciously pressed her body even closer.

Looking at Wang Xiuxiu, who was behaving perfectly in his arms, Lu Jingze's heart softened, and the corners of his mouth turned up slightly.

Lu Jingze walked to the bedside and gently placed the person on the bed.

As soon as Wang Xiuxiu touched the bed, she rolled into the innermost part of the bed, only revealing her large, clear black and white eyes, watching him warily.

Looking at Wang Xiuxiu, who was wrapped up in a ball, Lu Jingze almost laughed in anger.

He stepped onto the bed and gently stroked the hair of the self-important little thing.

The next second, he swiftly made his move, tightly gripping the slender waist in front of him, and without hesitation, he leaned down and kissed her collarbone.

Wang Xiuxiu was completely taken aback by how things had turned out, and exclaimed in surprise, "Lu Jingze!"

At this moment, Lu Jingze's eyes were as deep as the sea, and surging emotions welled up like a tide.

The frenzied and scorching aura filled Wang Xiuxiu with a deep-seated fear.

Lu Jingze's desire burned fiercely, with only a last shred of reason clinging to him.

Looking up, seeing Wang Xiuxiu's terrified reaction, all his impulses were instantly extinguished by a bucket of cold water.

He stopped what he was doing, his dark, unfathomable eyes looking directly into hers: "You don't want to?"

There was no trace of lust in Wang Xiuxiu's clear eyes at this moment.

She replied firmly, "I don't want to."

Upon hearing this answer, Lu Jingze closed his eyes, seemingly trying to calm his turbulent emotions.

Wang Xiuxiu looked at him nervously, her hands unconsciously clenching the hem of her clothes.

He suppressed his rapid breathing slowly and tremblingly. After a long while, he sighed softly, as if he had used great willpower to force himself to let go and release Wang Xiuxiu.

He stood by the bed, his voice a little hoarse, "I won't be back tonight, you get some rest."

After saying that, he turned and left without looking back.

Wang Xiuxiu sat blankly on the bed, her hands tightly covering her wildly beating heart, unable to calm down for a long time.

To be honest, at that moment, she wasn't entirely confident that she could stop Lu Jingze.

But at this point, she couldn't care less about all that.

There was only one thought in her mind—she didn't want to.

Looking back on her time with Lu Jingze, Wang Xiuxiu's feelings became increasingly complicated.

There were simply too many things about Lu Jingze that she couldn't understand.

He is like a collection of contradictions.

On the one hand, he saved me from danger more than once, so he was a good person.

On the other hand, he took advantage of her predicament to bully her and seize her property by force!

Therefore, it would be an inaccurate assessment to say that he used his power to oppress others entirely.

Because at certain crucial moments, he seemed to still respect her wishes to some extent.

Wang Xiuxiu couldn't see through him, nor did she know how to evaluate such an eccentric person...

As night deepened, Wang Xiuxiu lay in bed.

She didn't know what tomorrow would bring, nor how Lu Jingze would treat her.

But she knew she had to stay clear-headed and never lose herself in this complicated relationship.

Outside the window, the moonlight, like water, shone on her face, reflecting a faint trace of sorrow.
