Chapter 13
Shen Bining felt like an eternity had passed, but in reality it was only a dozen seconds before she and Tang Hui walked into the crowd.
A man in his thirties, with a refined and handsome appearance and a smile that was both elegant and inexplicably lewd, stepped forward and smiled at her with great intimacy.
"Beautiful lady, are you leaving already? Aren't you going to stay and have lunch with us?" Song Ziyi tried his best to leave a good impression on Shen Bining, afraid that he might do something wrong and ruin his brother's good time, causing Tang Hui to live a lonely life.
That would be his mistake.
As he said this, Song Ziyi winked at Tang Hui, as if to say, "She really is a super beauty. You have high standards, but they're not bad either."
Song Ziyi's self-perceived charm was seen as utter perversion by Shen Bining. She subconsciously took a half step back, looking at Song Ziyi warily, and said firmly, "No need, I've finished my business and I'm leaving."
How could he let them leave like that? Song Ziyi quickly put on what he thought was his most handsome smile and was about to try to persuade them again when he suddenly received a cold, murderous glare from the side.
"Hiss." Song Ziyi gasped, looking at Tang Hui with a clear yet foolish gaze—Brother, I'm helping you flirt with girls, what kind of attitude is this?
Shen Bining couldn't understand Song Ziyi's intentions, but how could Tang Hui, who had been Song Ziyi's friend for many years, not understand them?
It's no exaggeration to say that he only needed a few glances to understand what these employees, including Song Ziyi, were up to.
Seeing that Song Ziyi not only misunderstood his relationship with Shen Bining but also wanted to play matchmaker, Tang Hui quickly interrupted Song Ziyi. "Dr. Shen, I'll see you out."
“Okay.” Shen Bining couldn’t wait to leave. Right now, she felt that apart from Tang Hui, no one in the entire law firm was a good person.
At this moment, Song Ziyi could also see that the two of them did not seem to be in that kind of relationship—at least the girl's wariness and embarrassment were obvious.
Although he can be a bit cheeky at times, he's by no means ungrateful. He's incredibly gentlemanly towards women and rarely does anything to embarrass them, especially when it comes to pretty girls.
So he watched helplessly as Tang Hui took Shen Bining away, without saying anything more, only planning to interrogate Tang Hui thoroughly later.
Song Ziyi has a good eye for things, but others don't.
Ye Zhongxuan watched Shen Bining about to leave, and he was so anxious that he felt like he had witnessed his boss's lovebird fly away. He imagined a tragic scene where his boss would live out his days alone.
Then, in a moment of impulsiveness, Ye Zhongxuan disregarded Tang Hui's expression and hurriedly stepped forward to give Shen Bining a close-up kiss.
"Sister-in-law..." The moment Ye Zhongxuan uttered those two words, he received a death stare from Tang Hui, which made him tremble. He quickly changed his words, "Beautiful lady, are you leaving already? Won't you stay a little longer?"
Fortunately, Ye Zhongxuan has a "flaw"—he gets shy when talking to pretty girls and speaks very softly. So, Shen Bining didn't hear him clearly when he said "sister-in-law," but Tang Hui, who was very close to him, did.
"No, I have something to do, I'll be going now." Shen Bining hurriedly refused and quickened her pace.
Ye Zhongxuan clearly wanted to say something more, but Tang Hui quickly grabbed his collar and pulled him back.
Ye Zhongxuan inexplicably took two steps back. When he came to his senses, Tang Hui and Shen Bining had already reached the front door.
*
Tang Hui was furious with his bunch of incompetent teammates at the law firm, and he was also worried that Shen Bining would mind—after all, she was a girl who came to work, and to be misunderstood by a group of strange men as spreading rumors, he would have called the police on the spot if it were him.
"Dr. Shen, I'm so sorry you had to make such a long trip today and that you couldn't complete your task." Tang Hui said after considering for a moment.
To express his apology, he personally escorted Shen Binning down the elevator.
Tang Hui's original intention was to apologize for the unreasonable behavior and misunderstandings of his colleagues at the law firm, but Shen Bining just felt that those people were strange and did not think about it in any other way. Moreover, she did not hear Ye Zhongxuan's "sister-in-law".
Therefore, Tang Hui's apology was perceived by Shen Bining as an apology for "refusing to see Zhou Nianhua".
This made Shen Bining even more uncomfortable, so she quickly replied politely, "It was I who disturbed you and brought up your sad memories. I'm so sorry. Please forget about it, and I won't bother you again."
As they spoke, the elevator arrived at the underground parking lot, and Shen Bining went to find her car.
Tang Hui saw him off all the way, and said softly, "You're doing this for work too. How about this, Dr. Shen, if you ever need to file a lawsuit or seek legal advice in the future, you can come to me, and I'll give you a discount."
Shen Bining tripped on her high heels and almost fell. After regaining her balance, she looked at Tang Hui with a wry smile and said with dissatisfaction, "I don't want to get into legal trouble. You should take back your good intentions, Attorney Tang."
"Just in case," Tang Hui said, "As far as I know, medical disputes are becoming increasingly serious these days, and doctors are actually quite prone to lawsuits. As the saying goes, having connections in the government makes things easier. Knowing a lawyer will always come in handy in the future." Tang Hui analyzed very rationally, showing his true colors as a lawyer.
Shen Bining thought it made sense; even if she didn't need it, her father could.
Tang Hui is right; doctors are actually quite prone to legal trouble. Take her hospital, for example; it's constantly embroiled in lawsuits. With so many people in hospitals, various medical accidents are inevitable, and when you add in some patients who are unreasonable or deliberately extort money, medical lawsuits are simply unavoidable.
"I'll accept your promise for now. If I ever need it, I might come to you. Don't go back on your word then," Shen Bining said with a smile.
"It's a deal," Tang Hui nodded in agreement.
*
After Shen Bining left, Tang Hui walked slowly toward his office, feeling like he was trying to escape, because he really didn't want to see those idiots at the law firm.
The others are fine, he's the boss and has a lot of authority, as long as he puts on a cold face, the others won't dare to gossip anymore.
The key is how to get rid of Song Ziyi.
Tang Hui knew that Song Ziyi would definitely ask probing questions, so after much hesitation, he decided to tell his friend the truth.
He also happened to be looking for someone to talk to.
*
Even though Tang Hui had mentally prepared himself in the elevator, he was still startled by the stares when he pushed open the law firm door.
Almost everyone who had just seen Shen Bining was waiting at the door for his return, just to detain him and get to the bottom of things as soon as possible.
Tang Hui swallowed hard. Even though he was usually calm and composed, anyone would feel a chill run down their spine if they were stared at by a dozen pairs of eyes as soon as they opened the door.
Moreover, those dozen or so pairs of eyes were gleaming with gossip, like hungry wolves with green pupils.
As the boss and Tang Hui's close friend... no, best buddy, Song Ziyi naturally took on the responsibility of "interrogating" him.
With what he considered a handsome smile, but which others saw as somewhat lewd, he smugly walked up to Tang Hui and wrapped his arm around Tang Hui's neck—he was slightly shorter than Tang Hui, making the gesture look a little comical.
Tang Hui frowned almost imperceptibly. Due to his childhood experiences, he was cold and aloof, had few friends, and disliked getting too close to others.
When he was in school, teenage boys loved to put their arms around each other and play around wherever they went, but he found that very distasteful.
Because he hates close contact with people, and even more so, he hates anyone invading his "territory".
That's why Song Ziyi dared to put his arm around his neck; if it were anyone else, he would have definitely turned on them.
"Tang law, the more you confess, the more lenient you will be; the more you resist, the more severe you will be. Tell the truth: who is that beautiful woman? What is your relationship with her? When and where did you meet? How far have things progressed? Tell us the truth immediately, or we will have to open a court here and give you a good trial."
After Song Ziyi finished speaking in a nonchalant manner, a chorus of agreement immediately followed.
Originally, no one dared to joke about Tang Hui, but firstly, they were too curious about that beautiful woman and couldn't help themselves; secondly, with Song Ziyi around, even if Tang Hui got angry, Song Ziyi would be there to offer his head, so it wouldn't be their turn to "die".
Tang Hui was silent for a while. Song Ziyi thought he was embarrassed, so he quickly cheered to the crowd, "Look, look, our Tang Lu is shy. It's like an old tree blossoming and falling in love!"
The crowd burst into laughter and pressed Tang Hui for answers.
"Ziyi, do you have time? I need to talk to you alone." Tang Hui didn't smile. He just looked at Song Ziyi calmly and said in a calm but resolute tone.
Song Ziyi knew Tang Hui too well. As soon as he saw Tang Hui's expression and tone, he realized that something had happened—he was not just trying to change the subject; he really had something to discuss.
And it's not a small matter.
Song Ziyi put away his playful expression and carefully examined Tang Hui, as if he wanted to confirm again whether Tang Hui was serious.
After confirming it repeatedly, he was certain that Tang Hui was not joking again, nor was he deliberately changing the subject to cover something up.
"Damn it," Song Ziyi thought to himself with a serious expression, then stared at Tang Hui with suspicion.
Could this guy have gone too far with his affairs or started something and then abandoned it, forcing the girl to come to his door to settle scores?
Well, there's no point in guessing. Since Tang Hui said he had something to discuss with him, he'll tell him everything.
"Let's go to your office then, let's talk," Song Ziyi said dryly, swallowing hard.
Tang Hui nodded, whispered to the employees, "You all get back to work," and then left first.
Just as Song Ziyi was about to follow, someone suddenly tugged at his clothes.
Ye Zhongxuan and a few others felt abandoned and angrily grabbed Song Ziyi, complaining like wronged women, "Brother Yi, you can't keep this to yourself! If you know anything, you must share it with your brothers and sisters when you get back."
The others nodded frantically in agreement.
Song Ziyi was both amused and exasperated. He gently patted Ye Zhongxuan's head and said irritably, "Don't you know what kind of person your boss is? He clearly has something important to discuss with me, maybe it's business. All you do is gossip. Hurry up and get to work, or your boss will abuse you."
Then, amidst the boos and groans of the crowd, Song Ziyi hurried off to catch up with Tang Hui.
