Chapter 15
Shen Bining and Chen Nian were both drawn to the sudden male voice.
Turning their heads, they saw a boy with a baby face who looked like a college student, wearing a snow-white doctor's coat, standing restrainedly next to the two of them.
The boy seemed very shy, his face flushed red, his hands twisting unnaturally in front of him, his body slightly bent, as if he wished he could shrink himself into a ball and not be seen by anyone, and he didn't dare to look Shen Bining in the eye.
However, the boy's words were straightforward and passionate, getting straight to the point and inviting Shen Bining to dinner.
The two girls, having recovered from their brief surprise, exchanged a glance and then reacted differently.
Shen Bining awkwardly dug her toes into the ground, trying her best to maintain a polite smile, her face almost cramping from laughing; Chen Nian covered her mouth and chuckled quietly, her body trembling uncontrollably.
Such a scene was extremely common for the two girls.
Shen Bining and Chen Nian are known as the most beautiful girls in the hospital. From the first day they joined the hospital, they have been pursued by a constant stream of people, including doctors, patients and their families.
But not long after, Chen Nian's handsome and wealthy boyfriend, Qi Wang, started picking her up from work in a luxurious and flashy Lamborghini, as if to declare his ownership. Soon, everyone in the hospital knew that Chen Nian had a boyfriend, and the male doctors who were pursuing her had to give up their ideas. Even if patients or their families wanted to pursue her, they would usually ask the nurses they knew and give up after learning that Chen Nian was not single.
All the single men set their sights on Shen Bining—not only was she beautiful, but she was also the daughter of the dean, and most importantly, she was single.
As a result, scenes like the one before us often occur, mostly in the cafeteria. Therefore, the two of them do not come to the cafeteria often, but usually get their meals and eat in the office to avoid unnecessary trouble and disturbance.
If it were a greasy guy like Liu Yiming who tried to chat her up, Shen Bining would have rejected him outright. But today's guy was polite and shy, and looked even younger than her. She just couldn't bear to hurt his young heart.
Seeing that Chen Nian was about to burst out laughing, Shen Bining glared angrily at her friend and awkwardly dealt with the person who had struck up a conversation. "Um, you look unfamiliar. I don't think I've ever seen you at the hospital before. Are you new here?"
The man had thought all hope was lost when Shen Bining didn't respond, and he was just preparing to leave in defeat when he received a reply. Overjoyed, he looked up in surprise, forgetting all about being shy, and stammered, "I, I'm a student doing my internship at the hospital. I just arrived last month."
Upon hearing the word "intern," Shen Bining immediately perked up—wasn't this a reason to refuse being offered up on her own initiative?
"Ahem." Shen Bining cleared her throat in a mock-serious manner, adopting the air of an older sister, instantly lending an air of kindness to her demeanor. She earnestly instructed the young student, "You're still a student. You should focus more on your studies and work. Don't think about romance at such a young age; it's not good for your growth. Your main tasks now are to study hard and work well..."
"Pfft. Hahaha." A muffled thud startled Shen Bining. It turned out that Chen Nian had finally lost her temper and burst into laughter, leaning over the table.
Shen Bining gritted her teeth and grabbed Chen Nian's neck, while still maintaining a smile for the boy, and summarized as kindly as possible: "Go back and think about it yourself, is that the truth?"
The boy wasn't a child; how could he not understand that he had been rejected? His face instantly turned even redder, and his eyes seemed to be covered with a layer of mist, like a little puppy that had been abandoned, feeling extremely wronged.
Shen Bining shouted "Forgive me!" in her heart a few times, and instantly felt like a villain.
Why are guys all going to take this pitiful route lately? They start playing the victim after being rejected? Doesn't that make her look like a beast?
"But I won't let dating interfere with my studies and work. We can make progress together, I promise..." The boy was still unwilling to give up, making a last-ditch effort.
"I'm sorry, I don't like guys younger than me. I like guys a few years older than me who can give me life guidance," Shen Bining said resolutely with a cold face.
Finally, the boy seemed to be crying as he left, his departing figure carrying an indescribable sense of desolation and loneliness.
"I feel like such a terrible woman, hurting the heart of an innocent boy," Shen Bining murmured, feeling incredibly frustrated.
She fears encountering suitors like this the most. Relationships are supposed to be based on mutual consent, and she has every right to refuse if she feels it's not right. But the person she rejects is always good at playing the victim and acting pitiful, making her seem heartless and ungrateful.
Chen Nian had had her fill of amusement and was now busy watching the excitement. She couldn't help but encourage him, saying, "Why don't you just give him a chance? It's just a dinner invitation. If you feel it's not appropriate after dinner, you can refuse."
Shen Bining glared at her friend, who was talking without any sense of the situation, and said irritably, "Having dinner with him is like giving him hope. What if I say no and he bursts into tears on the spot? I'll probably get sent to the police station by some concerned citizen. And give me another smile? So no one's been bothering you lately, huh? You're actually gloating."
After they had laughed and joked enough, they started eating again. Chen Nian brought up a familiar topic: "If you're afraid of being constantly harassed by confessions of love in the hospital, then you should get a boyfriend as soon as possible."
Shen Bining rolled her eyes and said with a wry smile, "Sister, dating is about fate and feelings. Do you expect me to be like people in the primitive society, just knocking out a random man on the street and taking him home?"
Chen Nian picked up a piece of Mapo Tofu with her chopsticks and put it in her mouth, saying indistinctly, "If you want to date, the first thing you need to do is make more new friends. Maybe one of your new acquaintances will catch your eye. Look at you, you go back and forth between work and home every day. Do you think a man will just fall from the sky and run to you?"
“As far as I know, you also go straight home after work, so you’re not much better than me, are you?” Shen Bining retorted.
Chen Nian looked up at her friend, blinked her beautiful big eyes, and said innocently, "As someone with a fiancé, of course I have to go home after work. I don't need to go out to meet new men."
Shen Bining: Fine, you have a boyfriend, so you're amazing. We single dogs deserve to be tortured.
Chen Nian swallowed the food in her mouth and continued to persuade her, "Also, even when you go out to eat with friends, it's either me or your two best friends from high school. You don't even have a male companion. You don't like any of your colleagues at the hospital, and you don't want to go on blind dates arranged by your parents. Ruoruo and I offered to introduce you to someone, but you didn't take it seriously. Do you not want to find someone at all?"
"Wait..." Shen Bining called out urgently, interrupting Chen Nian's rambling. Then, she looked at Chen Nian with suspicion and asked, "Why are you so keen on helping me find a partner?" Then, as if she had thought of something, she exclaimed, "Did my dad find you and ask you to persuade me?"
This was the only possibility she could think of.
To everyone's surprise, Chen Nian calmly picked up a piece of shredded potato with her chopsticks and put it in her mouth, chewing slowly.
Just as Shen Bining thought she wouldn't respond or would tacitly agree, Chen Nian spoke up leisurely, "It's not Dean Shen, it's your mother whom your aunt asked me to do this when I saw her at the hospital last time."
Shen Bining: Damn, I have a traitor hiding by my side. He's the best friend who's always trying to sabotage me.

The law firm was incredibly busy, and soon the gossip about Tang Hui and the pretty young lady was no longer mentioned. Everyone was working hard at their posts until the end of the workday.
After working overtime for a while, Tang Hui dragged his somewhat tired body home.
Song Ziyi went to have dinner and watch a movie with his girlfriend; they each had their own lives.
Tang Hui's home in H City is in a newly launched residential complex, considered one of the city's upscale communities. He recently bought it; it's a large 230-square-meter apartment.
The entire residential complex is one of the most sought-after properties in the city in the past two years, known for its good location, high-end facilities, and wealthy residents.
The house wouldn't be a burden for a lawyer, but it would be somewhat lonely for a person living alone.
He doesn't spend much time at home, and as soon as he enters his house, he is overwhelmed by the loneliness and desolation that is everywhere.
Tang Hui asked himself if he enjoyed this solitude and desolation, but perhaps it was just because he had long been used to it.
Because he is rarely home, Tang Hui only hired a part-time housekeeper who would come regularly to clean his house. Apart from breakfast, he almost never eats at home, so he doesn't need any extra meals prepared for him.
Today, Tang Hui wasn't in the mood for dinner out. Instead, he packed a high-end sushi on his way home from get off work to eat at home. Although he lived alone, he never compromised on food, clothing, housing, or transportation. He wanted the best of everything, since he had the means to support such high consumption.
Fate had already been very unkind to him, so he refused to compromise himself in any way in life.
Tang Hui had just opened the takeout package and eaten two pieces of sushi when his phone rang.
Tang Hui picked up his phone and saw that it was an unknown number calling. He hesitated for a moment but answered anyway. In their line of work, receiving calls from unknown numbers is normal, and it doesn't matter whether it's during working hours or after get off work.
"Hello," Tang Hui said lazily.
"Hey, lie down, step on me and sleep?" A cheerful girl on the other end of the phone shouted excitedly in broken Mandarin.
Upon hearing this, Tang Hui frowned. He put down his chopsticks and glanced at the caller ID in shock—the number on his phone was a local number.
Without needing to ask any further questions, he already knew who the other person was.
"Lisa, when did you come to China? Do your parents know?" Tang Hui asked seriously, his voice tinged with a hint of nervousness.
He suddenly had a bad feeling.
