Chapter 40

Chapter 40

Shen Bining strongly agreed with the old policeman's theory of a "revenge killing," adding, "I agree with you; I also think it's a revenge killing. My boyfriend is a lawyer, and I suspect it's someone he sued in the past. Because when the killer attacked, he shouted something like, 'Attorney Tang, do you still remember me? Lawyers like you are all lackeys of the rich; how could you remember a poor person like me? You've ruined me terribly; I lost my wife, my home, and all my money…' That's roughly the gist of it. So I guess it's a revenge killing; the other party probably lost their case, happened to run into us, and in a fit of anger, decided to kill to vent their frustration."

Just then, Qi Wang, along with Chen Nian, and Song Ziyi, along with Mu Ci, rushed over in a hurry. All of them were terrified, and their faces were all grim.

It wasn't until Shen Bining explained Tang Hui's injuries that the four of them breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing that it was just a superficial wound and that no internal organs had been damaged.

Then, Shen Bining pulled Song Ziyi aside and explained her theory of a "revenge killing." She then gestured for the police to show Song Ziyi the photos of the perpetrator and asked, "Do you know this person?"

Song Ziyi's expression changed after taking a look, and he said angrily, "I not only know him, I can't believe I don't know him."

Then, he told everyone about the grudge between the murderer and Tang Hui.

The murderer's name was Wu Qiren. He was an ordinary person with average circumstances, but he had some incredible luck and managed to marry a rich girl. Not only did her family provide the car and house, but her father-in-law also used his connections to arrange a job for him in a government agency.

Logically speaking, as long as such a man is honest and dutiful in his life and does his job with a little care and avoids major mistakes, his life will be bright and prosperous. But some men just can't seem to learn to be "honest".

With the help of his father-in-law, Wu Qiren quickly became a junior leader in his department. As a result, he became arrogant and thought that he had real skills and that he had achieved success through his own abilities.

Once a man from humble beginnings achieves success, the first thing he does is forget his roots. He begins to resent his father-in-law who helped him rise to prominence and his wife who supported him. He feels that their every word and action is looking down on him.

His wife seemed to be subtly reminding him that he only got where he was today because he married into the family; his father-in-law also seemed to be constantly wary of him, trying to use small favors to gain his loyalty to his wife and family, but he was never willing to share the core interests of the family with him.

These rich people are always so arrogant and greedy. They give the poor a little bit of food and then try to squeeze them dry. Their contemptuous eyes seem to be a constant reminder: if you dare to disobey, I'll kick you out right now.

The second thing that men from humble backgrounds like to do is cheat on their partners.

Wu Qiren rose to his position through his wife's connections, but not everyone in his workplace knew this. He became a leader in his early thirties, naturally attracting many women. For a man like Wu Qiren, who was extremely insecure in his marriage, the allure of women was his greatest weapon.

He quickly became very close to a new young woman at his workplace, eventually falling deeply in love.

He experienced an unprecedented feeling of being a "real man" with his lover. The young girl's graceful body, supple skin, adoring eyes, and coquettish tone all made him fall deeply in love.

He even forgot how he got everything he had today, and forgot that the person who gave him all of this could also take it away effortlessly.

In less than six months, Wu Qiren's affair with his mistress was brought to the attention of his wife.

That young girl was too impatient and brainless. She didn't realize that her husband got to where he is today because of his wife. She thought that the woman at home was just a wife who had been through thick and thin with her, and that she couldn't possibly compete with her.

She was not content to be just a mistress; she wanted to rise to the position of a leader's wife.

So she deliberately made a scene in front of Wu Qiren's wife.

Wu Qiren's wife, a wealthy heiress, had never been treated like this before. She might have been blinded by love and married the wrong man from humble beginnings, but she would never allow herself to be humiliated like this by that man and his mistress.

The young lady quietly gathered evidence of Wu Qiren's infidelity, and a divorce lawsuit left him with nothing. She then used her father's connections to relentlessly destroy Wu Qiren, ultimately resulting in both him and his mistress being fired from their jobs for misconduct.

After waking from his dream, Wu Qiren suddenly realized that everything he had was given to him by his wife. He had betrayed her, and now he was left with nothing.

Unwilling to be left with nothing, Wu Qiren relentlessly sued his wife. His demands were simple—to divide their marital property equally; he could not afford to end up penniless.

Unfortunately, he was the one at fault. When they got married, they were penniless, and the house, car, and savings were all his wife's premarital property, so he couldn't get any of it.

His wife's family had made thorough preparations from the very beginning to prevent him from turning against them.

Ultimately, the lawsuit ended with Wu Qiren losing.

Tang Hui is the lawyer representing Wu Qiren's wife.

Wu Qiren lost his family, career, and property. His former lover hated him to the core and ran off to marry someone else. Penniless, he tried to win back his ex-wife, but was repeatedly turned away. His ex-wife even threatened that if he continued to pester her, she would find evidence to send him to jail.

Wu Qiren had a history of dishonesty during his work, and his ex-wife hadn't produced the evidence that would have landed him in jail, which could be considered a lenient gesture out of consideration for their past marriage. After hearing his ex-wife's threats, he naturally dared not harass her again.

After his career ended, Wu Qiren became destitute, homeless, and struggling to make ends meet. Out of desperation, he took a job as a food delivery driver, which is how he met Tang Hui.

Tonight, he came to the restaurant where Tang Hui and others were dining to pick up takeout, only to see Tang Hui walking out of the store.

He recognized Tang Hui; he knew it was this law firm, in collusion with his ex-wife, that had left him penniless. Then he looked at Tang Hui, so impeccably dressed, dining casually at upscale private restaurants, always accompanied by two beautiful women…

He had once enjoyed this lavish lifestyle, but now it was all gone. He had nothing left and could only make a living by delivering takeout, living a life of hardship and destitution. He had lost everything, both in terms of his reputation and his dignity.

Wu Qiren is the kind of selfish person who blames others for his own mistakes. He has come to hate his ex-wife and father-in-law, but he was powerless to confront them; he has also hated his mistress, but she ran off to another city to marry someone else and has disappeared without a trace...

Tonight, after seeing Tang Hui, he transferred all his hatred to this "unscrupulous" lawyer in his eyes.

Fueled by anger, hatred, hunger, cold, and utter disgrace, Wu Qiren pulled out a fruit knife he carried for self-defense, hid in the parking lot, and prepared to die together with the lawyer who had ruined him.

Hearing Song Ziyi's description, everyone was furious, especially the young policeman, who roared, "The people I hate most in my life are those who poison doctors and lawyers! They used their life's work to give back to society, and why should they poison these people who have contributed to society when they couldn't achieve their goal? Scumbag! Miss Shen, don't worry, this guy surnamed Wu who injured someone with a knife in the street will definitely get a long sentence. He will definitely give your boyfriend justice."

Shen Bining smiled and thanked the indignant young policeman. At that moment, the operating room lights went out.

The crowd quickly gathered around. The surgeon in charge was Director Liu from the hospital, who was also an old acquaintance of the Shen family father and daughter. Director Liu came out of the operating room and reassured them, "Dean, niece, don't worry. The injured person only has a few superficial wounds and has not damaged any internal organs. The wounds are not deep either. They have been stitched up and she will wake up once the anesthesia wears off."

"Thank you for your hard work, Lao Liu."

"Thank you, Uncle Liu."

The Shen father and daughter quickly expressed their gratitude. Just then, the nurse wheeled Tang Hui out.

Tang Hui was still unconscious on the hospital bed, his face was a little pale, but his breathing was relatively steady, so he seemed to be out of danger.

The group followed Tang Hui into the ward, while Shen Changqing received the police who came to investigate. The murderer, Wu Qiren, was still unconscious, and there were still many things to be done to clean up the mess.

As soon as they arrived at the ward, the group eagerly surrounded Tang Hui, who was still unconscious. Seeing this, the nurse quickly warned, "The patient won't wake up anytime soon, so don't all crowd around him. He needs fresh air." She then turned to Shen Bining and said, "Dr. Shen, keep an eye on them. I have to go now. I don't know why, but there are so many patients tonight."

"Go ahead and get busy, I'll take care of things here." Shen Bining saw the nurse off, pulled the other four to sit down, and was wondering whether she should let them go home first, since she could take care of things here. Anyway, Tang Hui wouldn't wake up for a while.

Suddenly, the door was knocked open.

It was another nurse on duty at the hospital. She pushed open the door, glanced around, and waved to Shen Bining when she saw her. She said softly, "Dr. Shen, the foreign girl who was brought in with you has woken up. You should go and see her."

Shen Bining then remembered that there was also Lisa. She didn't know if the girl was afraid of blood or had a bad mentality. Even though she was not injured at all, she could still faint.

Since she was Tang Hui's cousin, Shen Bining couldn't possibly ignore her. She whispered to the group, "Why don't you go back first? It's already late at night. Go back and rest, and come back tomorrow during the day. I'll be guarding this place."

Song Ziyi shook his head and said, "Even if we go back, we'll still be thinking about this place. How can we possibly sleep? The doctor said Tang Hui will wake up in two hours at most. Let's wait for him to wake up before we leave."

The other three all agreed.

Shen Bining knew they were Tang Hui's best friends. Tang Hui had no relatives in China, and it was impossible for the two brothers to leave at this time. She said gratefully, "Okay, you wait here for me for a while. I need to go check on Lisa. She fainted from fright."

Chen Nian immediately replied, "I'll go with you." She was worried about Shen Bining being alone with that crazy girl.

Shen Bining hesitated for a moment, then nodded. The two left the ward to visit Lisa, who had just regained consciousness.
