[Bonus Chapter 2] He fled, she chased, and he couldn't escape.

(Like Chapter 1, this is a nonsensical and silly side story. The plot of this side story is unrelated to the main text. Readers who are not interested can skip it.)

...

01.

I am Gu Xinghe, an ordinary bartender.

Although it sounds like some strange plot development, I did indeed take in a girl who claimed to be a fallen heiress.

The girl's name was Theresa.

As I walked home from get off work at the bar tonight, I noticed she had been following me.

Although the word "following" seems to have been given more negative connotations in modern times.

But what I want to describe here is that Theresa was indeed following closely behind me at the time.

Watching her move, which was almost like imitating the characters in TV dramas hiding behind various objects and constantly following me, only made her seem more clumsy and cute.

Thus, the story returns to its beginning.

After I pulled Teresa out of my sight, the girl stammered that she wanted to go home with me.

In Teresa's description, her current status is no different from that of a fallen heiress in a movie or TV series—

After her father's death, her mother remarried and soon after, she also died in an accident.

However, the girl's stepfather quickly brought home a stepmother shortly after her biological mother passed away.

The two men greedily seized the property left to her by her parents.

It sounds like a third-rate urban family drama plot.

But from Teresa's sometimes exaggerated yet icy narration, I could tell that most of what she said was true.

Nevertheless, I still feel that in this situation, the girl should seek help from her other relatives or friends.

But after several unsuccessful attempts to persuade her, I had no choice but to take Teresa home.

02.

If I were to talk about how I met Teresa, I would have to mention my workplace—the Doom Bar.

The Doom Bar is considered a landmark of the city and a popular spot for tourists to visit.

That being said, the reason I mentioned tourists from other places above is precisely because locals rarely come to this bar.

Despite being hailed as a city landmark, Doom Bar is actually known for its extremely "unique" taste of its drinks.

The first customers who came here to drink were left questioning their existence because of the unique taste of the drinks made by the bartenders.

The bar's current reputation is built on a constant stream of customers "fishing" for customers.

This is why most of those who fall victim to "fishing" are out-of-town tourists who only make one-time purchases.

As for the reason why "unique" is in quotation marks—

This is because the wine here truly has a unique flavor that is a mixture of delicious, unpleasant, and futuristic innovations that modern people cannot yet appreciate.

What's even more shocking is—

It seems that there are indeed some people with strange tastes or special constitutions who genuinely love the drinks in bars.

And in this "famous" bar.

Although it may sound strange, I am indeed the head bartender here.

Chief in every sense.

And as I mentioned above, because some customers genuinely like it, I seem to have received a crazy following from some people.

I don't understand, but I am deeply shocked.

03.

In this bar, the owner arranged a career development plan for me that focused on a limited-time, limited-quantity boutique approach.

To put it bluntly, I can work for half an hour and then rest for the whole day.

Now that I think about it, I seem to have been teased by quite a few customers a while ago—

He said a girl kept asking me where I was.

But because I left work too quickly, she couldn't catch up with me, and we never met.

Even so, I was still very satisfied with my boss's arrangement of my working hours, and I even walked a few steps faster when I left work.

If someone isn't proactive about leaving get off work, there's something wrong with their mindset.

However, looking back now, could that girl who supposedly always wanted to see me have been Teresa?

04.

When I got home, I brought Theresa a glass of hot water as she sat on the sofa.

It is clear that the girl has indeed received good family upbringing.

They managed to make the plain water in the ceramic cup that came with milk from the supermarket taste like shimmering champagne at a lavish banquet.

After resting for a while, out of concern for the lost girl.

I tentatively approached Theresa to discuss her "grand plan" of how she could reclaim her family's assets.

Things have gotten to this point, and I'm even starting to wonder if my daily life is turning into a business war in the financial sector.

Corporate espionage? Assassination? Kidnapping? Accidental car accident?

But after hearing my series of guesses, Theresa couldn't help but laugh.

Seeing this, I could only helplessly watch her increasingly cheerful smile.

Because my professional field is completely unrelated to this, my understanding of so-called business battles and inheritance disputes comes entirely from various embellished TV dramas.

05.

After receiving a series of negative answers, I suddenly realized—

I could tell from her earlier descriptions of her experiences that most of what she said was true.

But then I suddenly realized that most of what I said was already in the past.

"Don't worry, look—"

Then, Theresa took out a black card from her bosom.

"This is the money I earned from the company I founded myself. The family fortune that was swallowed up, I took it back long ago."

Looking at Theresa's expression, I could tell she was saying—

I dealt with those stepparents effortlessly.

I thought I had encountered a Teresa from the era of "Thirty years east of the river, thirty years west of the river, never underestimate a poor girl."

But who would have thought that this was a scene from "The Return of the Dragon King"?

Seeing my shocked expression, she also looked somewhat smug.

But I always felt that what shocked me was completely different from what she was shocked about.
