Chapter 4 Queen Chris of the Roses

Some unknown entity is lurking in the shadows, watching.

Among the low-lying rose bushes, behind the tall canopy of trees, in the hidden shadows.

In—this manor!

Already extremely flustered, Chen Manman turned her head and looked around, but there was clearly no one else around except for the six of them.

But within that surging, dark fog.

She could still clearly feel pairs of eyes watching them closely, following them.

Those gazes seemed to be filled with malice.

No.

Her thoughts quickly contradicted her previous ideas.

The malicious gaze was merely her imagination.

In fact, that gaze appeared calm and undisturbed, devoid of any emotion.

It was her own cowardice and fear that gave her gaze a terrifying quality.

No.

She contradicted herself again.

There was no line of sight around.

Swish—

The gaze seemed to transform into a worm, quickly burrowing into her shadow.

Everything around her suddenly felt like a swamp, and she sank deeper and deeper, gradually merging with the darkness.

For a moment, she almost screamed.

Then, as if remembering where she was, she tightly covered her mouth.

Seeing that she had fallen behind the others, she quickly ran a few more steps to catch up.

But all of this seemed to vanish quickly after the group stepped through the castle gates.

Chen Manman was covered in cold sweat and panting heavily, and could only secretly comfort herself that everything she saw was probably just an illusion.

Once inside the castle, it was still not exactly bustling or noisy.

But the orderly busy work of the various servants and attendants in the castle still gave the castle a bit of life.

It won't be as deathly silent as when I first came in.

But Gu Xinghe frowned slightly as he looked at Chen Manman.

I thought she would gradually calm down and stop being nervous and scared, but it seems that her condition is even worse than before.

Although Gu Xinghe himself was when he first transmigrated to this world.

I heard many people describe the atmosphere of horror games as terrifying and bizarre.

However, he believes that the Rose Manor experience he is currently going through is quite different from what the general public is aware of.

Perhaps the impression of the Rose Manor, which Chen Licheng described as a place where there was no chance of survival, is quite different.

The atmosphere inside the manor is not scary at all; it is a castle that is magnificent and grand just by looking at it.

The sun shone warmly, even as dusk fell, and vibrant red roses were everywhere in the estate.

Gu Xinghe had to admit that this place was indeed beautiful and cozy.

But seeing Chen Manman's panicked expression, Gu Xinghe still tried to listen to her thoughts.

What came through was the same fear and dread as always.

[Happy, joyful]

To Gu Xinghe's surprise, Chen Manman's emotional state was described with completely different adjectives.

But before he could think it through, after entering the main hall on the first floor of the castle...

The other four were quickly led away by their respective servants in their assigned areas.

At this moment, only Gu Xinghe and the maid Eiffel remained in the same spot.

Seeing that Gu Xinghe seemed to be looking around, Eiffel did not urge him.

She simply stood quietly beside him, waiting silently.

It was as if Gu Xinghe was the one who gave the order, the master of the castle.

"The castle consists of four floors."

Seeing that Gu Xinghe had come to his senses, Eiffel gently introduced him to the overall structure of the castle.

"The first floor of the castle is mainly the main hall—the banquet hall, banquet room, and small dining room are all on the first floor."

The second floor mainly consists of guest rooms and game rooms with various functions.

The third floor is the owner's private area.

For example, the owner's room, along with her private library and laboratory, are all on the third floor.

It's like a maid introducing the castle to a young master who has just inherited the family fortune and is visiting the castle for the first time.

But Gu Xinghe found that his conversation with Eiffel seemed quite natural, without any sense of awkwardness.

"And what about the last floor?"

"It's a basement."

Eiffel winked playfully.

When she was alone with him, her expression seemed much more lively, and her face was not as cold as before.

Remembering the basements in various movies and TV dramas, Gu Xinghe wisely refrained from asking any further questions.

Eiffel had already indicated that he would take him to the next place.

Eiffel led Gu Xinghe up floor by floor, introducing each floor in turn.

The spacious stairwell was carpeted in red, while the handrails were a subtle, dark gold.

But as the two of them reached the top floor, Eiffel led Gu Xinghe to a room.

Gu Xinghe's expression clearly started to falter.

"Eiffel, why did you stop here?"

"This is where you will be staying tonight."

While others were immediately taken to work 996 (9 am to 9 pm, 6 days a week) upon arriving at the castle.

Gu Xinghe, however, was led on a tour of the castle and his accommodations for the night.

This was indeed a very novel experience.

"Isn't this the third floor?"

According to what Eiffel just said, the entire third floor is the private property of the estate's owner.

Does he want to live so close to the BOSS of this game instance?

"Yes, the mistress said that your daily job is to serve her personally, so she arranged for you to live on the third floor as well."

After she finished speaking, she pointed to the room opposite Gu Xinghe's.
