Pei Xiao was so eager to get home that the two-hour drive felt incredibly slow to him. He felt restless and simply stood up and paced back and forth in the aisle.
Passengers nearby saw him pacing back and forth and thought he was mentally ill. He bought a seat but refused to sit, insisting on standing. Standing wasn't enough, so he paced back and forth. Just looking at him made people feel tired. Yu Zihan, however, chuckled, thinking that his father must be very good to his mother.
Two hours passed quickly and the train arrived in Qingcheng.
The father and daughter walked home carrying large and small bags.
It took more than ten minutes to reach Dongshun Hutong. At the entrance of the hutong, I saw Aunt Wang.
Aunt Wang stepped forward and greeted her: "Yu girl, you've become a celebrity in our alley. You're so famous on TV, and it makes me, your neighbor, feel proud." Yu Zihan only remembered her appearance on TV after she mentioned it, so she said to Aunt Wang: "Aunt, you're too kind." Then, she took out a special product of the imperial capital from her bag and stuffed it into Aunt Wang's hand.
"This is a specialty of the imperial capital. Take it back and try it." Yu Zihan was very grateful to the aunt. She reached out to help her and her daughter when they were isolated and helpless. Yu Zihan kept this kindness in her heart.
Others would not receive such treatment. Aunt Wang understood Yu Zihan's thoughts when she saw his actions, and she hid the package in her arms at an extremely fast speed.
She looked at Pei Xiao with suspicion, her face full of gossip. Yu Zihan didn't want to hide anything, so she told Aunt Wang, "This is my dad, my real dad." Her voice was deliberately amplified so that those hiding in the shadows could hear and see clearly what a remarkable man Yu Meijuan's lover was.
Although Pei Xiao was carrying a large bag, he did not look embarrassed or miserable at all. He understood what his daughter meant, so he straightened his back and looked at the neighbors with a smile on his face.
Zhao Yumei had been hiding at the gate, watching. A few days ago, people had been saying that Yu Meijuan's daughter had appeared on TV and won a prize, and she was incredibly jealous. Now, she heard that the man in front of her was actually that woman's, and she was filled with resentment. Why did all the good things go to that woman? Why was she so lucky?
She looked at her clothes and her hands with a sad look on her face. She was afraid she would never have the chance to meet a man like him again in her lifetime. As she lowered her head, a bad idea suddenly occurred to her.
"Ah, you're Zi Han's biological father, don't you know? Her mother is divorced. She must have been kicked out of her original village because she was restless. You don't even know that she started having an affair with the psychopathic son of the Sun family in our alley right after she moved in here. It was a big deal, everyone in the alley knew about it. But, these mother and daughter are very powerful. I don't know what tricks they used, but they handed them over to the police. Look at your demeanor, you must be a person of status, you should think about it."
"What nonsense are you talking about? The neighbors all know what's going on. What are you trying to do by saying that about Meijuan? You're such a troublemaker." Aunt Wang couldn't stand it anymore, so she stood up and spoke for them.
She turned to Pei Xiao and said, "Don't listen to this woman's nonsense. She might have some hidden agenda. Meijuan is a very good person. She's beautiful, has a good temper and is capable." As she spoke, she glared at Zhao Yumei.
"Thank you, big sister. I know my own family. I understand her better than outsiders, so I won't listen to other people's gossip." He looked coldly in Zhao Yumei's direction. Zhao Yumei was annoyed when she saw that her words had no effect.
Seeing Pei Xiao looking towards her, she tried to show off her charm, but his eyes were so cold and frightening that she couldn't help but shiver. She quickly closed the door and leaned against it to catch her breath. What kind of people were these? They were so scary.
Yu Zihan brought his father back home, but the door was locked.
"Dad, Mom is not at home. She is at work and will be back in the evening." Yu Zihan said while packing.
Pei Xiao looked around the room. The layout and furnishings inside were clearly Meijuan's style. Seeing this reminded him of Meijuan's pretty face.
"Dad, you wash up first and rest at home in the afternoon. I will cook for you in the evening and you can try my cooking." Yu Zihan knocked on the door and said to Pei Xiao who was sitting opposite.
"Okay." His daughter's voice brought him back to reality from his thoughts. He came out to wash up. He was really tired, so he lay down on Yu Meijuan's bed and fell into a deep sleep.
Yu Zihan spent the afternoon studying in her space. A week of studying hadn't affected her grades at all. But she couldn't waste time; she had to seize the opportunity to study. It looked like she had a good chance of attending school in the capital. Her grades were decent in a small town like this, but in a city like the capital, with its wealth of talented people, she needed to work even harder to keep up. So, Yu Zihan studied even harder than before.
Looking at the watch, it was already past five o'clock. Yu Zihan came out of the space and prepared to go to the vegetable market to buy vegetables.
Hearing Yu Zihan's movement, Pei Xiao opened the door.
"Dad, didn't I tell you to rest? Why are you up?" Yu Zihan asked.
"I slept well and had enough rest. What are you doing? You arrange it and Dad will do it."
"I'm going to buy groceries and then cook dinner." Yu Zihan said.
"Then Dad will go with you and I'll help you get your things." Pei Xiao said.
"Okay." Yu Zihan felt her father was so kind-hearted. She decided to fulfill the old man's wish.
They went to the vegetable market carrying their vegetable baskets.
"Buy a fish. Your mother loves fish." Pei Xiao said.
