What are you wearing?
Gu Shaoxuan looked at Xia Enruo wearing his clothes and assumed she was up to her old tricks again, dressing so provocatively in broad daylight without any regard for the consequences. His disgust grew even stronger.
"Um... I've already washed all my summer clothes, and I really don't have any to change into, so I'll have to borrow yours for now."
Xia Enruo turned and went to the table, picked up her water glass and took a few sips. She felt inexplicably thirsty, probably due to nervousness.
"Are you hot? I just cooled some water down. Would you like a glass?" Xia Enruo said.
Gu Shaoxuan felt that Xia Enruo in front of him was like a different person. In the past, she would argue back with ten sentences for every one sentence he said, and would even get excited and throw things at the drop of a hat. But today she was unusually calm.
Looking around, he suddenly noticed that the house was clean and tidy, with a faint scent of laundry detergent in the air, and the cement floor was shiny from being mopped. Was this still his home? He used to not want to stay a moment longer when his home was dirty, but today's scene was something he had never seen before.
This woman has never been as diligent as him since she came to the house. Today she is acting strangely. Could it be that she did something wrong and almost killed someone, and is doing these things to seek forgiveness? But she is incorrigible. No matter what she does, he is definitely getting a divorce.
He rushed to the round table and sat down, his anger blazing, and said:
Why did you push Qiaohuizhen into the river? What were you thinking?
Hearing Gu Shaoxuan's words, Xia Enruo realized why he had rushed home in a huff; it seemed the villain had accused her first.
However, given the original owner's past behavior, it's no wonder that Gu Shaoxuan believed him without question. But questioning him indiscriminately still made people feel somewhat displeased.
“I didn’t push her. She insulted me first. She not only insulted me but also my deceased parents. She didn’t even spare your parents. In the end, we started to fight and fell into the river.”
As Xia Enruo spoke, she suddenly felt wronged.
"You're still trying to deny it. Qiao Huizhen is an intellectual and a doctor at the city hospital. She has the highest level of education in the entire family compound. She's humble and polite. How could she say such things? Everyone has said it, and the military spouses around here can all testify to it. You're still shamelessly making things up here."
Gu Shaoxuan didn't believe Xia Enruo's nonsense. Qiao Huizhen's parents were both teachers, and he himself was a college graduate. How could she be like what Xia Enruo described? Looking at her indignant and eloquent appearance, she was still the same as before. He always felt that she was the most reasonable person in the world.
"Anyway, in your eyes, no matter what I say, you don't believe it. You always think that I'm the one who's wrong. It's because I used to have a bad temper and was lazy that you hate me so much. Since you hate me so much, we might as well get a divorce. But you have to give me a few days. Once I find a job and a place to live, we'll go through the divorce proceedings."
Xia Enruo's words surprised Gu Shaoxuan. He had come back to bring up the divorce, but Xia Enruo had spoken first. When he came back to confront her, he suddenly felt that he had been played by her. He had never agreed to the marriage, but his parents had forced him to agree to it. After moving to the military compound, he had never had a good day and had been tormented every day, becoming the laughing stock of the compound.
She caused a huge disaster today, yet she acts like nothing happened and is about to kick me. Is she treating me like a toy? Even if we're going to divorce, it should be me who doesn't want her anymore.
Unable to contain his anger, Gu Shaoxuan slammed his fist on the table, causing it to overturn and the water glass to shatter on the floor.
Qiao Huizhen was peering through the crack in the door, listening to the clattering noises inside. She was secretly delighted; it seemed that Gu Shaoxuan had really lost his temper this time and had dealt a severe blow to Xia Enruo.
"Serves you right." She curled her lip, spat, and left with satisfaction.
"Xia Enruo, what do you take me for? A football? You kick me when you need me and kick me away when you don't? Is this how you humiliate me?"
Looking at the furious Gu Shaoxuan in front of her, Xia Enruo realized that it was not the right time for her to bring up divorce. The original owner had forced him to marry her with the marriage contract, and now she was bringing up divorce. This was not only a humiliation, but in this era, especially for soldiers, getting married and then divorced would have a very bad influence.
"I... I didn't mean it the way you think. I wanted to let you go. Since you don't want a divorce, then pretend I didn't say anything."
"Why don't you want a divorce? Fine, I'll help you find a job and a place to live. Don't try to stay here and refuse to leave!"
Gu Shaoxuan turned and left, looking at the hallway outside the door filled with washed clothes. He stopped and looked into the window. What was wrong with this woman today? Usually, as soon as he stepped out the door, he could hear her smashing things. Today, however, she was unusually quiet, and the window was so bright. He hadn't seen the house like this in a long time.
Seeing Gu Shaoxuan frowning and gazing thoughtfully into the room, Xia Enruo suddenly remembered something and ran after him.
"Um, could you lend me some money? I promise I'll pay you back later. If you don't trust me, I'll offer my things as collateral."
After cleaning the house, Xia Enruo discovered that it was completely empty. The vegetables in the kitchen were all moldy and had long been thrown into the trash can. The refrigerator hadn't been used in a long time and wasn't even plugged in. This morning, the original owner went out and bought two meat buns, spending the last bit of money she had.
Now I not only have no food to eat, but I will also need money to do anything in the future. Without money, it's impossible to find business opportunities or even move an inch.
She ran into the house, took out the jade pendant keychain that her parents had left for her, tore off half a page of letter paper, picked up a pen, and started writing quickly. In her previous life, she was used to signing documents every day, so writing a mortgage note was no problem for her.
