Chapter 64 Ge Qiuqin, you're just a peasant.

Ge Qiuqin got up very early and prepared breakfast in advance, waiting for her mother-in-law to arrive. The children were pulled out of their sleep one by one.

She knew her mother-in-law had many rules, so she dared not be negligent in the slightest.

She stood like a statue waiting for her husband, staring intently at the gate of the compound, waiting for their arrival so she could go out and greet them immediately.

Chen Yan's hostess and Zhang Lei were all smiles. They had eaten so much good food on their first day in town, it was definitely worth the trip.

Seeing his mother happy made Zhang Xin happy too. It's no wonder that Chen Yan came from an intellectual family, had a job, was worldly-wise, and was adept at handling interpersonal relationships.

Unlike Ge Qiuqin, a rural old woman who only knows how to cook and doesn't understand anything else.

After having breakfast, the four of them hurried home.

Chen Yan made a special request to go to her home, ostensibly to accompany Erbannu, but in reality, she was thinking about seeing what Ge Qiuqin, this haggard old woman, looked like, and if she had the chance, to humiliate her.

The four entered the family compound, which Ge Qiuqin had spotted early in the morning.

He hurriedly came out of his house to greet her.

"Mom, you're here. I've been looking forward to your arrival. Come in quickly."

Ge Qiuqin was still afraid of her mother-in-law, so she greeted her from afar.

The second-hand woman felt disgusted by Ge Qiuqin's rustic appearance, and this feeling intensified after meeting Chen Yan.

She was determined to drive Ge Qiuqin away and send her back to the countryside, because she felt that this country bumpkin would only be a burden to her son.

"Qiuqin, I thought you were sleeping soundly at home if you didn't come out. I never thought you still cared about your mother-in-law. I thought you had forgotten about me long ago after you moved to the city."

The second-hand woman glared at Ge Qiuqin, making Ge Qiuqin feel uneasy. She had prepared thoroughly, but she didn't expect her mother-in-law to find fault with her.

Upon hearing what the second-floor woman said, Chen Yan felt even more smug. It seemed that this peasant's whole family disliked her, and it would be only a matter of time before she was kicked out. At that time, she could finally be with Zhang Xin.

"Zhang Lei, let your sister-in-law carry the luggage. We've been walking all this way and we're quite tired, but she's been leisurely eating and getting quite a big belly."

The woman on the second board glanced at her daughter and gestured.

Zhang Lei disliked her sister-in-law to begin with and bullied her whenever she had the chance in the village. Today, seeing her mother say this, she became even more arrogant in front of Ge Qiuqin, taking advantage of her mother's position.

"Here you go. You have no sense at all, don't you know my arms are sore from carrying all that stuff?"

She threw the bag into Ge Qiuqin's arms.

Hearing the voices in the courtyard, Xia Enruo went to the window and looked out. She then turned to Gu Shaoxuan and said...

"It seems that Sister Qiuqin's mother-in-law has arrived. She is greeting her in the yard. It's quite a proper occasion."

She looked out the window again and suddenly spotted a familiar figure.

"Why is she here too? That vixen is shameless, she actually came to Sister Qiuqin's house. Zhang Xin is a scoundrel."

Xia Enruo angrily grumbled to Gu Shaoxuan.

Upon hearing this, Gu Shaoxuan thought Zhang Xin was a real scoundrel, actually bringing his mistress home. Was he even a soldier? Was he even a man?

“Enruo, why don’t you go next door in a bit? I’m worried that Sister Qiuqin might be bullied. They’re up to no good.”

Xia Enruo didn't expect that Gu Shaoxuan had the same idea as her. She planned to go over in a while, and if Ge Qiuqin was bullied, she could say a few words for her.

Ge Qiuqin led the four people into the house, and she called out to the children:

"Children, Grandma and Auntie have arrived. Come out and say hello."

Upon hearing this, the four little boys ran to the woman on the second board and Zhang Lei, and said in unison:

"Hello, Grandma. Hello, Auntie."

Ge Qiuqin met Chen Yan for the first time and didn't recognize her. She asked Zhang Xin:

Who is this girl?

Zhang Xin showed no remorse and replied:

“My colleague Chen Yan, who is younger than you, worked overtime last night to revise a manuscript and went to the station early this morning to pick up Mom.”

Upon hearing this, Ge Qiuqin was truly surprised that Zhang Xin's colleague had actually gone to pick up his mother-in-law; she felt genuinely kind.

"Chen Yan, welcome to my home. The children say hello to Auntie."

Ge Qiuqin shook hands with Chen Yan.

Chen Yan noticed that Ge Qiuqin had freckles on her face and rough hands, clearly indicating that she had done a lot of heavy work. Compared to herself, Ge Qiuqin was like heaven and earth; she was utterly defeated.

"Sister-in-law, you really are so simple-minded. You didn't even dress nicely when your aunt came."

Ge Qiuqin had no money to buy new clothes. Her clothes were patched all over, but she washed them clean today to welcome her mother-in-law.

"Sister, you're right, your sister-in-law was careless."

When Erbannu saw the four children with patched clothes, she felt resentment towards Ge Qiuqin.

These children are like beggars under your care; all your money goes back to your mother. When Chen Yan marries in, her children will be a hundred or a thousand times better than yours.

She didn't even hold the child; she just sat down on the sofa, crossed her legs, and picked at her teeth with a toothpick, saying:

"Pour us four a glass of water. What are you standing there for? Don't you have any manners? Chen Yan, sit down. You must be tired after walking all morning!"

She glared at Ge Qiuqin, then pulled Chen Yan to sit beside her, chatting happily.

Listening to her mother-in-law's words, Ge Qiuqin took out cups from the kitchen and poured tea for each of them.

"Mom, you must be hungry after your journey. I've stewed some chicken pieces. Let's have some tea and then eat together."

Ge Qiuqin really put a lot of effort into these chicken nuggets, specially asking Xia Enruo to adjust the flavor so that her mother-in-law would enjoy them.

When Erban's daughter heard about the stewed chicken pieces, she thought it was far inferior to the breakfast she had that morning. She thought her daughter-in-law was really stingy, and that chicken pieces were the only thing she remembered in her life.
