Chapter 81 The lunchboxes were booked out

Xia Enruo looked up. The man looked to be around forty years old, wearing a white shirt and old-fashioned square-framed glasses. He was covered in sweat from running.

"There are also boxed lunches. But my boxed lunch only has three dishes: braised pork slices, shredded pork with garlic sauce, stir-fried cabbage, and one more dish: stir-fried oat noodles!"

Xia Enruo explained that she didn't have high hopes; it seemed that the person had mistakenly identified someone else at another stall.

"Prices...how much are they?"

The man was panting heavily, unable to finish his sentence in one breath.

"Stir-fried pork slices are 75 cents a serving, shredded pork with garlic sauce is 60 cents a serving, stir-fried cabbage is 35 cents a serving, stir-fried oat noodles are 30 cents a serving, and I also have fruit tea, 20 cents a cup."

Since they are guests, we should answer all their questions thoroughly, regardless of whether they buy anything or not.

"I'll take all the boxed lunches, and I'll have 30 cups of fruit tea too."

When Xia Enruo heard what the man said, she could hardly believe it. Was it true?

"Brother, if you eat this much, it will go bad if you leave it for too long."

The man laughed when he heard that.

"Girl, how could I possibly eat all this by myself? My students have been doing experiments for so long today that they haven't had lunch yet."

I went out to get food for them, but when I got to the cafeteria, they were all sold out. So I ran out to check the boxed lunches, and you were the only one left selling them on the whole street.

Xia Enruo felt a little excited upon hearing this; it was truly a blessing from heaven!

"Teacher, are you sure you want all these boxed lunches?"

"Sure."

The teacher did not hesitate at all.

"I only have 20 cups of fruit tea now, not 30."

"Then we'll take all 20 cups as a reward for them."

Xia Enruo's eyes lit up; he was truly her lucky star today.

"Okay. You can't possibly carry all this stuff by yourself. I'll push the cart and come with you."

Xia Enruo followed the male teacher on her tricycle. When they arrived at the school gate, the old man in the guardhouse came out. The teacher went up to the old man, said a few words to him, and finally let them through.

Because medical universities have canteens, the sale of boxed meals is prohibited on campus. This is partly to avoid competition with the canteens and partly to ensure the hygiene of the boxed meals.

If food safety issues arise on campus, the school leaders will be in trouble, but others will be left unattended.

When they arrived at the lab building, several male students followed the teacher out and carried all the boxed lunches and fruit tea from Xia Enruo's cart inside.

The male teacher then paid Xia Enruo's bill.

She rode her bike back excitedly. All the boxed lunches and fruit teas had sold out, earning her a total of 22.5 yuan – not bad at all. But she really owed it all to that teacher; if he hadn't booked the entire place, she would have made absolutely nothing.

Back home, Xia Enruo excitedly told Gu Shaoxuan.

He was amazed to hear that his wife had sold out of boxed lunches. She was truly remarkable. He had been worried that the students would be shy and not buy any, but it seemed he had met a lucky person today.

After the two finished lunch, Xia Enruo started ironing clothes. She had to go to the school in the afternoon to deliver and collect clothes for the students, and also to inform them that she had moved to a different location.

Ge Qiuqin went out and bought some free-range chickens, which are not commonly found in the market. She made a special trip to the black market to find them.

When she got home, the second-hand woman complained that she had been out for too long, even taking so long to buy a chicken.

"Hurry up and make some chicken soup, I'm so sore I'm practically sticking to my back."

Ge Qiuqin boiled water and plucked the chicken feathers. Erbannu and Zhang Lei lay on the bed. Now, Erbannu was too ashamed to go out except to use the toilet.

It's incredibly shameful that my daughter got pregnant out of wedlock; everyone in the compound knows it.

I had hoped she would marry into a good family and become a cash cow, but that dream is now completely shattered.

"Mom, if you're hungry, have some steamed buns to tide you over. I need to simmer this chicken soup for a while; slow cooking is the only way to extract the nutrients from the chicken."

Ge Qiuqin looked at the free-range chickens and felt worried. She estimated that it would be afternoon by the time she finished cleaning them, and there was no way she would be able to eat lunch then.

"Why don't you make something else for your little sister and me to eat first? You're so stubborn. We're exhausted and can't stand eating dry steamed buns."

Ge Qiuqin said "oh" and went to the kitchen to heat up the old food for her mother-in-law.

Zhang Xin went to the army and hasn't returned because he's been busy. He's only been in contact with Chen Yan by phone recently and hasn't met her in person.

Chen Yan had already given up on the other end of the line and insisted that Zhang Xin come back to the city to keep her company, as she had been feeling really lonely and isolated lately.

She recently took a liking to a few outfits and asked Zhang Xin to buy them for her.

The two became intimate in the office as soon as they met. At midday, when no one was around and there were no security cameras, they became even more unrestrained with the door closed.

After much fuss, Chen Yan was still not satisfied. She had seen Ge Qiuqin last time, and her ugly appearance had given her a real thrill. She was determined to possess Zhang Xin, so that even the old hag wouldn't be able to see him.

Xia Enruo was talking about herself, and she was determined to get back double what she had suffered that day from Zhang Xin.

Both of them were exhausted and covered in sweat, and only then was Chen Yan satisfied.

Soldiers are physically fit, and that's part of the reason Chen Yan was attracted to Zhang Xin, though she was too embarrassed to tell Jiang Pei that day.

"Let's go to the department store later, will you buy me some clothes?"

Chen Yan snuggled up to Zhang Xin and said in a seductive tone that made Zhang Xin unable to refuse.

"Whatever you say, I just got paid today."

"Then you'd better spend more on me, otherwise that old hag will take it all. Does Zhang Xin still have any place in your heart?"

Chen Yan asked tentatively.

“She’s just a nanny now, but you’re all I think about.”

Chen Yan was delighted to hear this. "You two, Ge Qiuqin and Xia Enruo, let you show off! Did you hear that? Zhang Xin only has eyes for me. You're just talking big."

No one can stop me, Chen Yan, from getting what I want.

Ge Qiuqin heated up the food and served it to Erbannu and Zhang Lei. Now, the two of them didn't even want to get out of bed and ate on the bed with a small table.

He almost peed in bed.

"Qiuqin, you must make sure the chicken soup is ready for dinner. Your little sister is waiting to drink it."

Ge Qiuqin nodded; she had no choice but to comply.

"Oh, right, Mom! My little sister just had a miscarriage..."

Before Ge Qiuqin could finish speaking, the second-hand woman shouted.

"Shut your stinking mouth and don't mention your little sister's miscarriage again."

I finally figured it out in bed today. What does it matter if she's a virgin or not? I'll just have Zhang Xin find someone with good prospects to introduce her to. Once we're in the bridal chamber, I don't believe he won't admit it.

"If you marry my daughter, you have to take full responsibility. If you ever mention that the miscarriage has gotten out and ruins my daughter's life, don't blame me for skinning you alive."

The fire in Erban's heart was rekindled. She saw hope. In this day and age, the two of them didn't live together. Who knew that her daughter had had an abortion?

Ge Qiuqin simply couldn't understand how her mother-in-law had become so heartless.
