Chapter 31 Xue Yatou Means Good

"No, I just went to find some pine needles, I didn't find anything else. Grandpa Village Head, what's wrong? Did something happen?"

Han Luoxue looked puzzled. Han Qiang looked at her and saw that she didn't seem to be in any danger. Her clothes were clean and there were no tears. It didn't look like she had been chased by a tiger.

"Nothing much, someone just told me you were chased by a tiger?"

Was she chased by a tiger? Han Luoxue looked at him suspiciously. Han Qiang stepped aside, and Han Luoxue then saw Old Lady Han and Han Juhua inside the courtyard gate.

"What did they say?"

The village head nodded, and Han Luoxue smiled bitterly: "Then they really don't want anything good for me."

"Han Luoxue, you're a shameless girl! I clearly saw a tiger chasing you just now, how could you be alright?"

Han Yuze was shocked at first, but then he was furious. How come this bitch didn't die even when she encountered a tiger?

"Where did you see that? You must be mistaken."

"Hmph, I didn't see wrong."

Han Yuze pouted in dissatisfaction, tugged at Han Juhua beside him, and shouted:

“My sister was there too; she saw it with me.”

Han Luoxue was shocked. Were they following her when she went into the mountains? She hadn't even noticed.

I wonder what they all saw. But it seems she didn't do anything too outrageous.

"You are a monster, you must be a monster."

Han Yuze spoke angrily, and Han Luoxue, without holding back, slapped him hard across the face.

"You're the monster! You brat, you don't even want me to be happy?"

Han Qiang was also furious; the Han family really never seems to have a moment of peace.

"Get out! All of you get back home. Don't come out here making a scene and causing trouble."

Seeing that the village head was angry, Old Lady Han, though unwilling, still pulled Han Juhua and the others away. After they had gone some distance, Han Luoxue asked, "Grandpa Village Head, it's been three years of famine now, hasn't any relief grain arrived yet?"

It's impossible for it to be this quiet up there.

"Not yet, sigh, it's not raining right now. But even if it rained, it wouldn't help, we don't have any seeds, what can we do?"

Like corn, grains cannot be planted directly. Even if they are planted with difficulty, they will grow poorly, and you may not even be able to recoup the cost of the seeds.

“Grandpa Village Head, I look at the weather outside, it looks like it's going to rain soon. I have some sweet potato vines here. Our fields are all idle right now, so could you please tidy them up and plant them? These sweet potato vines are a little different from the ones we usually plant. They mature in a very short time, and you can harvest sweet potatoes in less than two months.”

Less than two months? The village head's eyes lit up. You know, they usually grow sweet potatoes for four months, but Xue'er said hers wouldn't take two months?

Han Qiang was excited, but he was also a little worried:

“Well, Xue’er, your idea is good, but… you know, the weather has been so sunny all the time. Our village is relatively good, we even have water to drink, but the fields are too dry. Even if everyone carries water over to plant, it won’t work if it doesn’t rain.”

"Grandpa Village Head, my sweet potatoes are drought-resistant, you can try them first."

Han Qiang was intrigued. Now everyone in his village was benefiting from Han Mingyuan's family, and he felt he could give it a try.

"Besides, Grandpa Village Head, everyone's just sitting at home doing nothing, and the land's the same. If it really doesn't work, we'll just be wasting a little effort. But if it does work, then we'll have food to eat in the future."

Sweet potatoes can also help you survive.

"Everyone is waiting for the imperial court's relief grain, but nobody knows when it will arrive."

This is true; there's absolutely no word from above right now.

"Little Xue, how many seedlings do you have? How is the price calculated?"

Han Qiang really wanted to give it a try.

"Grandpa Village Head, we're all neighbors, so let's not count the money, shall we?"

Han Luoxue was just helping out and didn't really want the money.

"That won't do. You're helping everyone, how can you not charge us?"

Han Qiang was not happy about it. He thought Han Luoxue was good, and he wouldn't let the little girl suffer.

"Ah, if we really have to calculate it, how about one pound of sweet potato for every hundred seedlings?"

It's practically free; she's just doing it as a token gesture.

"Well... Grandpa understands what you mean. I'll ask them right away. By the way, Xue'er, how many seedlings do you have?"

Han Luoxue secretly checked the space; there weren't many, less than a thousand trees.

"There are over a thousand. But if possible, I can provide more."

A thousand is really not much; I just don't know how many people will be willing to plant it.

"By the way, Grandpa Village Head, my seedlings are more likely to bear fruit. If you're going to plant them, you should space them more apart than you usually do."

"That's no problem."

Now even Han Qiang is curious about Han Luoxue's sweet potatoes.

After Han Luoxue finished speaking, she went home. She had tiger milk in her spatial storage and wanted to give some to her younger brother as soon as possible.

However, her younger brother had hardly ever drunk milk, so she gave him a little bit first.

I wonder if he'll ever get to taste that flavor?

Seeing Han Luoxue skip away, Han Qiang thought for a moment and then called a child to inform everyone to come to his house for a meeting.

Their village only has a little over seventy households. In the past, it was divided into six teams. He didn't need to consult with everyone; he only needed to ask the six team leaders.

Soon everyone arrived. Recently, Han Qiang had been looking for them only for good things, and they thought they were going to get another share of food. Everyone had a happy smile on their face.

Seeing that all six team leaders had arrived, Han Qiang cleared his throat and repeated what Han Luoxue had said.
