Chapter 550 The Old Emperor Regrets It

I've heard that some people are even more ruthless, going so far as to borrow money from others.

Ouyang Zhen was somewhat impressed by their courage; they really went to great lengths to get their daughter in.

It has to be said that Han Luoxue's move was indeed brilliant. However, the thought that he was the one being used still made him feel a little uncomfortable.

Even after becoming empress, Han Luoxue still went out every day. She would go out dressed as a palace maid, and no one would recognize her.

The only thing worth praising is that she knows to come home on time every night, which makes it impossible for Ouyang Zhen to find fault with her. His little wife is so energetic; it must be that he hasn't been working hard enough at night.

Ouyang Zhen naturally wouldn't let her off the hook, and the two had a child not long after they got together. After that, they mostly just chatted under the covers. Now that his wife has finally recovered, Ouyang Zhen is determined to make up for all the "benefits" they owed her!

"Brother Chen, just talk to me, don't lay a hand on me!"

They hadn't even exchanged two words when he was carried to bed.

Han Luoxue was speechless. She was quite tired after running around all day, and she still had to work overtime when she got back in the evening. This life was really a bit... hard to describe... Ouyang Zhen was never this indulgent before.

I remember when they first got married, several months had passed, and Ouyang Zhen still hadn't had a chance to consummate the marriage. Back then, his resentful little eyes made Han Luoxue feel extremely guilty.

But now, she doesn't seem to mind being tormented like this every night.

"Xue'er, I'm injured!" Ouyang Zhen said with a pitiful expression. Han Luoxue was extremely worried and hurriedly asked, "Where are you injured?"

Ouyang Zhen took her small hand and placed it on his chest: "Here!"

Han Luoxue...

Have you learned how to act cute after just a few days?

"Don't they all say they want us to have many children and bring us good fortune, and that you should carry on the royal family's lineage? If I don't work hard, how can we continue the family lineage?"

Watching the man do something so improper with such a serious expression, Han Luoxue chuckled helplessly. She knew that taking a concubine was wrong, but she only wanted to help him.

She believed that after the grain procurement was over, those ministers would behave themselves for a long time. What could she do if her man was wronged? Han Luoxue could only smile and comfort him.

The result of all the comforting she received throughout the night was that she couldn't get out of bed the next day. Her back ached, and her whole body felt like it had been run over. Early the next morning, the Empress Dowager arrived excitedly with her entourage. When the palace maids said that Han Luoxue hadn't gotten up yet, she wasn't angry; she simply took the two children away. Before leaving, she left a message telling Han Luoxue not to worry about the children, that she would take good care of them.

On the way back, the Empress Dowager held Mengmeng in her arms. The little girl had grown up quite a bit recently, and she would always grin and giggle when she saw people. The Empress Dowager's heart softened whenever she saw her.

"I've never liked children this much before. Perhaps it's because I haven't seen such a young child in so long? Seeing her has made me extremely happy all day!"

The Empress Dowager sighed, while Qin Mama, who was beside her, also smiled happily, holding Zhuangzhuang in her arms.

Well, although the little guy doesn't smile much, his delicate, adorable face makes you want to reach out and touch it.

Back in the palace, the Empress Dowager discovered that the old Emperor was also there. She gave him a disapproving look and asked, "What are you doing here?"

The old emperor looked longingly at the child in the Empress Dowager's arms: "I also wanted to come and see the child!"

"Hmph! Get out of the way, don't keep me from playing with the two children."

The Empress Dowager glared at him unhappily. This guy was clueless. Didn't he know what the situation was like in the palace? He still wanted to trip up Ouyang Zhen and find fault with Han Luoxue.

The old emperor followed behind, his eyes fixed on Zhuangzhuang. This was the young crown prince. He had been furious when he heard the news, feeling it was inappropriate to appoint such a young child as crown prince.

But after visiting a few times, he realized the child really did look remarkably like him. Even that serious little face was a carbon copy of his. Of course, he didn't dare say this aloud; if he did, everyone would probably say he was just being presumptuous.

Zhuangzhuang's little expressions are clearly inherited from Ouyang Zhen, and have nothing to do with the Emperor.

The Empress Dowager personally breastfed the two children, and Granny Qin skillfully prepared formula for them.

Recently, her technique has become increasingly proficient, and the two work together seamlessly. Watching the two little ones holding their bottles with their chubby little hands and sucking happily with their little mouths, the Empress Dowager chuckled to herself.

"My Mengmeng and Zhuangzhuang are so smart!"

The old emperor wasn't unfamiliar with this method of breastfeeding, but he was still somewhat surprised. Han Luoxue had quite a few good things in her possession; at least, he had never seen this kind of thing before.

"Mother, have you spoken to Xue'er about this?"

The old emperor came in and stated his purpose directly: he wanted to recover his health better, instead of being sickly all the time. The Empress Dowager glared at him, annoyed.

"Those are your son and daughter-in-law. If you want something, just ask them!"

The old emperor scratched his head awkwardly. He had spoken his mind freely that day, but he regretted it immensely afterward. Now, when he saw Han Luoxue, he was too embarrassed to even speak.

"Mother, I..."

"I told you this before. Think it through. Now look what you've done, regretting it now?"

The Empress Dowager snorted coldly. Although she had a good relationship with Han Luoxue recently, she was too ashamed to ask Han Luoxue for anything. Besides, Han Luoxue had treated her very well. Look at her now; her back and legs didn't ache, she was sleeping very well at night, and her complexion was something she never dared to dream of before.

"But Xue'er is really amazing. Look at the idea she came up with to raise money and grain. At first, I didn't think much of it, but look at how much grain is in the national treasury now!"

The old emperor gave an awkward smile. He wasn't deliberately targeting Han Luoxue; it's just that sometimes he got used to certain people and things and didn't want to make any major changes.

During this time, he had been reflecting on his actions and realized that his dependence on Ouyang Fu and the Empress was the root of his problems. After all, the two of them had cost him more than twenty years of his life.

Perhaps deep down he didn't care that much, it was just a habit.

Unfortunately, the old emperor realized this a little too late. Because of those two troublesome fellows, he had completely offended his son.

Now that he's clear-headed, he knows that the most suitable person for him is actually Ouyang Zhen.

The Crown Prince understood this, which is why he killed Ouyang Zhen.

The fact that Ouyang Zhen survived so many battles without incident proves that he is the true chosen one.

"It's good that you know what's going on. Just don't let the child be sad in the future."

Seeing the old emperor's regretful expression, the Empress Dowager still gave him a word of advice.
