Chapter 138: The Mystery of Life

Chapter 138: The Mystery of Life

When Jiang Lan woke up, she found herself leaning against the wall with clothes covering her. She didn't care where the clothes came from or who covered her with them. The first thing she did after waking up was to find Qi Wuhan. She tore off the clothes covering her body, ran over and pounded on the cold stone door desperately, shouting hoarsely to open the door. Every time she shouted, her throat felt like it was being cut by a knife.

"It's useless. This stone door weighs over a thousand pounds. You won't be able to open it even if you hammer on it for three days and three nights."

A man came up from behind her.

Jiang Lan ignored the other party's words and pounded the stone door desperately. She pounded and slapped it, and her palms were rubbed raw, leaving bright red bloodstains on the Stone Gate Mountain without her noticing. When she raised her hand again, her wrist was grabbed by another hand. She tried hard to shake off that hand, but the hand was welded to her wrist like a piece of iron and could not be shaken off no matter how hard she tried. She used her other hand to grab and scratch it, scratching that hand until it bled, and then the other hand was also grabbed.

After both her hands were caught, she started biting, kicking and biting like a mad woman.

The person who was bitten hissed. It really hurt. She thought that she must have been born in the year of the dog in her previous life.

"Do you still want to go out?"

After hearing these words, she calmed down a little, and her crazy eyes gradually regained some rationality. She could see clearly who was in front of her. When she saw that face, she pushed the other person away, staring at him coldly, and was as alert as a frightened bird, not letting the other person get close.

"There's no point in staring at me. I didn't kill that person." Ji Quan frowned, a little annoyed. He felt that she really couldn't tell right from wrong. It was really brainless of her to treat him as an enemy at this time. Wasn't she afraid of angering him and getting into trouble? If he had any bad intentions, who could save her?

"He's not dead!" Jiang Lan roared with red eyes, her hoarse voice like a knife cutting through her blood. She believed that he must still be alive, she wanted to find him, she wanted to take him home!

She started pounding the stone door again, but Ji Quan ignored her this time and let her pound as much as she wanted.

"That skeleton has no flesh left. When you beat yourself to death, it will just be enough for me to eat. I won't starve to death."

After hearing this, Jiang Lan stopped hitting.

Ji Quan took off the water bag hanging around his waist and handed it to her, asking her to drink some water first.

Jiang Lan didn't answer.

"I've never seen a woman as ignorant as you. We're the only two people in here. Why are you being so mean to me? Do you want to leave?" Ji Quan handed the water bag over again and said in a commanding tone, "Either you stay with that skeleton, or you just listen to me."

Jiang Lan took a look at the white skeleton and snatched the water bag from his hand as if it were something.

"Stay here and don't cause any more trouble." Ji Quan ordered again, and turned around and complained, "You bit me so hard that I bled."

Jiang Lan ignored him. After opening the water bag, she smelled the scent first, then raised the water bag. When she tilted her neck back, her throat felt like it was cut by a knife. She slowly poured the water bag without touching her mouth. A stream of cold water flowed into her throat, slightly relieving the pain.

When she put down the water bag, her eyes accidentally caught sight of the dragon robe thrown on the ground, and then she looked at the white skeleton and realized something.

The piece of clothing that covered her before was the dragon robe that the skeleton was wearing.

Ji Quan walked around and picked up the dragon robe and walked back. He put the robe on her, but she pulled it off.

"Okay, then you just freeze. Don't look for me if you freeze to death." He sat down next to her, bent one knee and leaned against the stone door.

Jiang Lan moved a little further away.

The stone chamber was already cold, and since it was built underground, the temperature was even lower.

The cold air penetrates through the pores, making people's bones ache.

Jiang Lan hugged her body tighter.

Ji Quan tilted his gaze towards her and said, "Is there nothing you want to ask me?"

Jiang Lan turned her head and faced him with the back of her head.

Quite stubborn.

Ji Quan asked again, "Do you want to know why I am here?"

Jiang Lan ignored him.

"It was His Majesty who ordered me to secretly monitor the Marquis' every move."

Jiang Lan still ignored him.

"Don't you want to know why Your Majesty did this?" Ji Quan asked another question.

Jiang Lan still turned her head towards him.

"I guess it has something to do with the Marquis's background." Ji Quan said in a long tone.

After hearing this, Jiang Lan finally reacted. She moved the back of her head, and her hoarse voice was a little better than before. "What do you know?"

"Everyone outside knows only that Madam Qi died of complications during childbirth," Ji Quan said, changing the subject meaningfully. "But who in the capital has actually seen this madam?"

Hearing this, Jiang Lan turned her head.

"One possibility is that Madam Qi's true identity is not public knowledge," Ji Quan said dimly, "another possibility is that this person doesn't exist at all."

No matter how bizarre the things she heard, Jiang Lan's heart was not shocked at this moment. After her hysterical outburst, her emotions had been in a numb state, and she would only react when she heard something related to Qi Wuhan.

"Perhaps, the Marquis's background is related to Beimo," Ji Quan glanced at Jiang Lan's reaction and continued, "That's why His Majesty is so wary."

Jiang Lan looked at the void in front of her, as if an illusory figure was floating in the void, and said to herself: "I will find you back, no matter where you are, I will find you."

"Let's think about how to leave first." Ji Quan said.

Jiang Lan looked around, supported herself on the stone door and slowly stood up, groping for the mechanism. Ji Quan said that he had already looked for it and asked her not to waste her energy.

Jiang Lan ignored his words, groped around once, and walked towards the second stone door. Ji Quan told her that her work was in vain, and took out the cake he brought from his arms and started to eat.

When Jiang Lan finished groping for the second stone door, her body was so cold that she could not walk, and the breath she exhaled was also cold. She squatted against the wall and tried her best to hug her body tightly to keep warm. The next moment, the dragon robe was thrown at her feet. She wrapped the robe around herself. The dragon robe was made of high-quality material, and it made her feel a little warmer after wrapping it around her.

Ji Quan broke off a piece of the cake in his hand and gave it to her. Jiang Lan shook her head. Her throat was already sore and it was difficult for her to swallow, let alone eat.

"You have a way to get out, right?" She looked up at Ji Quan, her voice trembling with coldness.

Ji Quan squatted down and looked at her, his expression becoming a little gloomy. "I can take you out, but you have to get some sleep first." He stretched out a hand towards her. Jiang Lan moved aside cautiously. The hand waved in front of her eyes. She smelled a strange fragrance, and the next moment she felt sleepy. The sleepiness became stronger and stronger, wrapping around her like spider silk, making it impossible for her to break free...

"Go to sleep."

Those were the last two words she heard before she closed her eyes.

When Jiang Lan woke up again, she found herself lying on a bed, covered with a quilt. The air around her was no longer cold, but instead a warm air lingered in the room.

She turned to look out the window. It was pitch black, as if it had gone dark.

The dim yellow light flickered slightly. She turned her head and saw an oil lamp on the table.

She wanted to get up, but as soon as she stood up, she felt dizzy, and she had no strength in her body. Her throat was dry and sore. She moved her legs to the edge of the bed with great effort and was about to get out of bed to get a glass of water when the door curtain was lifted. She immediately pulled out the hairpin on her head and held it in her hand, like a frightened bird.

Ji Quan walked towards her with a bowl of food and handed it to her.

Jiang Lan took a look at the bowl. It should be porridge. The rice in it was almost turned into a paste, but it could still fill her stomach.

After she took the bowl, Ji Quan sat down on the stool beside the table and watched her drink the porridge.

"Stay here tonight. I'll see if I can find a carriage tomorrow."

Jiang Lan came over, put the bowl on the table, and walked out the door. Ji Quan held his forehead with his hand, really impressed by her stubbornness.

After lifting the door curtain and coming out, Jiang Lan glanced around and found that this should be a pharmacy. There was a medicine cabinet behind the counter, but it seemed that there was no one in the store.

She took a quick glance and headed out the door. Ji Quan followed her to see how far she could go on her two legs.
