Chapter 16: Found a fairy?

Chapter 16: Found a fairy?

On the way back, Zhang tried to ask Jiang Lan in a roundabout way about her relationship with Marquis Jin'an. Jiang Lan insisted that they were not familiar with each other and refused to be fooled no matter how Zhang tried to trick her.

So Zhang became more and more suspicious that she was trying to cover up her mistake and believed that the two must have had an affair for a long time. No wonder she called off the engagement so readily. It turned out that she had already found a new partner. It seemed that she had to act as soon as possible, otherwise when Jiang Lan really became the marquis's wife, it would be too late.

After dinner, Tanxiang brought Qing'er over. Zhang gave Qing'er something and asked her to put it quietly in Jiang Lan's room and make sure no one found it.

The next day, after Jiang Cheng returned from court, Zhang brought Qing'er to him and asked her to tell him everything she knew.

Qing'er followed what Zhang had taught her yesterday and said that two days ago Jiang Lan asked her to go outside and secretly find a fairy lady. The two of them had a secret conversation in the room for about a quarter of an hour. When the fairy lady left, Jiang Lan asked her to give her a large sum of silver.

"Master, I don't want to doubt Lan'er. Last time at the birthday banquet, my mother-in-law said a few words to her for Lan'er's own good. She shouldn't hold a grudge against me." Zhang glanced at Jiang Cheng's face and continued, "But my mother-in-law has indeed been ill for the past two days, and she insists that Lan'er cast a curse on her. If Lan'er is really bewitched by that so-called fairy lady and is harming others, and is getting deeper and deeper into trouble in the future, what should we do?"

At this point, Zhang winked at Qing'er again, and Qing'er reported another thing. She said that when she came back after sending the fairy away, she accidentally saw Jiang Lan hiding something under her pillow. When she made the bed the next day, she didn't find anything hidden under the pillow. Maybe she had hidden it somewhere else.

"Then why are you saying it now?" Jiang Cheng's face darkened.

Qing'er was at a loss for words, so Zhang excused her, saying, "Master, calm down first. How can a servant like me criticize your master? But I can't just stand by and watch your master make one mistake after another, until it becomes a major mistake in the future. That's why I mustered up the courage to tell me about this. After all, human lives are at stake, so the master has to make the final decision."

Jiang Cheng pondered for a moment and asked, "Then what do you think we should do, Madam?"

"In my opinion, Lan'er should stop and turn back in time. If something happens to her mother-in-law, or if someone dies, Lan'er's life will be ruined. Although the Duke's Mansion has no evidence yet, there's no guarantee that the truth will be revealed one day. If that happens, it will be a catastrophic disaster!"

Zhang explained this and that, and then went to Jiang Lan's residence with Jiang Cheng.

Jiang Lan was reading a book in the room when Gui'er hurried in to report that the master and the mistress had arrived. She put down her book and straightened her clothes, as the show was about to begin.

As soon as Jiang Lan and Gui'er came out, Zhang accused her, "Do you know your mistake?"

"Lan'er doesn't know what I did wrong. Please tell me clearly, mother." Jiang Lan said innocently.

Zhang said sternly, "Since you refuse to admit your mistake, don't blame me for not giving you face." Then she gave the order, "Go in and search."

Tanxiang immediately went into the house with two maids, and Qing'er followed. Gui'er followed them into the house while trying to stop them.

"Daddy, did I do something wrong?" Jiang Lan said aggrievedly.

Jiang Cheng had been silent the whole time, but only now did he offer a few words of comfort, "The innocent are innocent. If you haven't done it, I wouldn't wrongly accuse you."

Jiang Lan nodded obediently.

Zhang cursed in her heart, "You little bitch is pretending to be pitiful. Let's see how you can argue later!"

Soon Tan Xiang came out with a box in his hand.

Zhang's eyes were full of pride, and she was sure that Jiang Lan was dead this time and there was no chance of recovery.
