Chapter 42 We Are Not Suitable

Chapter 42 We Are Not Suitable

After breakfast the next day, when Jiang Lan brought Qing'er and Gui'er to pay their respects to Zhang, she did not find it strange to see Zhang Hua there too.

When he saw Jiang Lan, Zhang Hua's eyes lit up. He stood up from the chair and walked out, bowing to her politely. Jiang Lan also returned the bow politely. He called her "Sister Lan'er" in a flattering manner, wanting to get closer to her, but he didn't dare to go any closer. He looked at her with an eager and flattering look.

Jiang Lan lowered her head slightly, pretending not to see it, and felt a little disgusted by the call of "Sister Lan'er".

Looking at Zhang Hua's fawning yet timid look, Zhang sneered in her heart that this was all he could do and he almost lost his soul when he saw someone.

After Zhang asked Jiang Lan to take a seat, Tan Xiang brought a bowl of Tremella and Lily soup and placed it in front of her. Zhang asked her to eat more to nourish her body so that she could live happily with her husband after she got married.

There was a bowl of Tremella and Lotus Seed Soup in front of Zhang Hua. Mrs. Zhang asked him to eat more so that he could have a son soon after getting married and have many children.

Jiang Lan felt a little nauseous after hearing this.

Zhang Hua blushed and lowered his head.

Zhang asked the two to eat slowly, then found an excuse to leave.

Zhang Hua looked up and stole a glance at Jiang Lan opposite him, then lowered his head shyly. He was about to ask her what she liked to do on weekdays. Just as he called her "Sister Lan", Jiang Lan stood up and bowed to him politely, and prepared to leave with Qing'er and Gui'er. Zhang Hua hurriedly got up and chased after her, but she glared at him with a warning look, and he was so scared that he retracted his feet and stood there, not daring to chase her.

Tan Xiang quickly came out from behind the screen and told Zhang Hua to follow. He still looked timid, afraid that if he followed, Jiang Lan would glare at him again.

Tan Xiang told him that if he didn't catch up with her now, he would regret it when the marriage fell through.

Encouraged by Tan Xiang, Zhang Hua plucked up the courage to chase after him.

"Miss, he's following us again." Gui'er looked back and said.

"Let's go." Jiang Lan quickened her pace, and Gui'er and Qing'er also quickened their pace.

"Sister Lan'er, wait for me~" Zhang Hua shouted bravely.

Hearing the affectionate call of "Sister Lan'er", Jiang Lan frowned in disgust and stopped.

Zhang Hua was delighted, thinking that she had stopped to wait for him, so he ran over quickly. However, as soon as he got close, he was frightened by the low aura emanating from Jiang Lan, and he cautiously took two steps back.

"orchid-"

He just opened his mouth tentatively when he was coldly interrupted by Jiang Lan.

"Shut up!"

Zhang Hua was frightened and lowered his head in fear.

Jiang Lan took a deep breath and calmed herself down, then said in a calm tone, "I don't know what my mother told you, but we are not suitable."

Zhang Hua raised his head, as if he wanted to say something.

Jiang Lan continued, "Your mother doesn't like me, and I don't want to be your daughter-in-law."

Zhang Hua was shocked, as if she couldn't believe that a girl would say such blunt and outrageous words!

By the time he recovered from his shock, the person was gone.

Tan Xiang had been following quietly not far away, and was a little shocked when she heard what Jiang Lan said. She thought that this second young lady was indeed a little weird. Her personality seemed to have changed since she broke off the engagement with the Duke's Mansion. Now she was like a completely different person.

Seeing that the person had left, she quickly collected her thoughts and hurried over to say, "My dear cousin, don't take what the Second Miss said seriously. Girls are thin-skinned, so a few angry words are not a big deal. My dear cousin, please don't take it to heart."

Zhang Hua had already started to back out in his heart, and he said timidly, "Why don't you go and talk to my aunt, or... forget it." After saying that, he bowed and slipped away as if escaping.

After Tan Xiang reported the situation to Zhang, Zhang felt really disappointed that she was so useless. She was scared off by just a few words and decided to back out. It was really a waste of her planning.

On this side, Jiang Lan was stopped by Jiang Rui on her way back with Qing'er and Gui'er. Jiang Rui ran over and called her "Second Sister" in a flattering manner.

"Second sister, if you don't like cousin Hua, I can help you send a letter to the Marquis. The Marquis will definitely have a way~"

Jiang Lan asked him, "Fourth brother, do you want to see the Marquis so much? Do you want him to invite you to drink wine?"

Jiang Rui's face flushed with embarrassment, as if his inner thoughts had been exposed. He rolled his eyes and whispered, "I'll tell you something, Second Sister. Don't say it was me who told you. Yesterday, my brother-in-law asked me what your relationship with the Marquis was. He also told me to remind you that the Marquis wasn't a good man and to stay away from him. Don't do anything shameful that would bring shame to the whole family."

Jiang Lan frowned, then softened her tone and advised, "Instead of wasting time on these things, why don't you study hard and get a good degree in the future, which will bring honor to our family."

Although she didn't like Jiang Rui, his surname was Jiang. If he became bad and caused trouble, the whole mansion would be implicated, including her eldest brother.

After Jiang Lan took Qing'er and Gui'er away, Jiang Rui stared at her back in confusion and wonder, thinking that he had never said such words to him before, so why did she suddenly act like she cared about him today?

He immediately concluded that she had ill intentions and was deliberately speaking sarcastically to mock him for being ignorant and unable to even pass the imperial examination, bringing shame to the whole family. His face suddenly became gloomy.

One day, he will make everyone look at him with admiration and respect him more!

After returning, Jiang Lan saw Yuanbao in the house and a smile unconsciously appeared on the corner of her mouth.

When they saw Yuanbao, the green-feathered parrot, again, Guier and Qinger were not as surprised as they were the first time.

Yuanbao was holding a small bamboo tube in his mouth and was here to deliver another letter.

After Jiang Lan took out the notes, she found there were two. On one note, Qi Wuhan wrote that he was very busy in the past two days and asked her to help take care of Yuanbao. On the other note, he wrote Yuanbao's daily menu.

She had originally planned to ask someone to buy a birdcage, but when she saw Yuanbao liked to stay on the branch of the wintersweet on the windowsill, she recalled that Yuanbao had never lived in a birdcage in his previous life. She thought that Yuanbao probably didn't like living in a cage, so she didn't buy him a birdcage.

At night, Jiang Lan sat on the couch by the window reading a book, while Yuanbao stayed quietly on the branch of the wintersweet tree, closing his eyes the size of green beans, so that not even a slit could be seen.

Seeing that it was sleeping soundly, she stretched out her finger and tapped lightly on its head. Its pair of green bean-sized eyes suddenly opened. Yuanbao tilted his head and looked at her, as if to say, "Is there something wrong with you?"

Its round little eyes looked innocent. She was amused and smiled. She tapped its head again and glanced back. Qing'er and Gui'er were not in the room. She lowered her voice and dragged out her tone, teaching it word by word, "Rogue."

Yuanbao tilted his head and looked at her, as if he didn't understand.

"No, rascal." She taught it again.

When Qing'er and Gui'er came in to make the bed, they saw Jiang Lan smiling. Gui'er asked curiously, "Why are you so happy, Miss?"

Jiang Lan raised her hand to her lips and made a silent gesture, with a little smugness on her face, as if she had done something bad in secret and no one had discovered it.
