Chapter 69 Is He Really Sick?
If she hadn't been pushed down again in the general's mansion, she might never have remembered it in her life.
When Jiang Lan learned that it was her elder brother who saved her, her heart was warmed, but then she felt guilty, thinking that she had been too distant from her elder brother before. When her elder brother came back, she must take better care of him.
After Aunt Liu left with a beaming smile, Gui'er couldn't wait to run into the house and ask, "Did the young lady promise her anything?" Jiang Lan waited for Qing'er to come in and told them that Aunt Liu would bring her youngest daughter, Zhu'er, over tomorrow and leave her to do some odd jobs in the yard. Gui'er was displeased when she heard this and said sourly, "It's enough for the young lady to have us serve her. Why is she trying to take over her work?" Qing'er joked, "Who's so jealous? Why are you so sour?" She covered her handkerchief and laughed secretly. Gui'er was embarrassed and angry, so she turned her back and ignored them.
Jiang Lan also smiled and comforted Gui'er not to be angry. Gui'er was no longer angry, but she just didn't understand why she had to leave Zhu'er behind?
Qing'er knew that Jiang Lan must have her own considerations, but she was also a little confused.
"When people come over, talk to her more."
Hearing Jiang Lan say this, Gui'er was unhappy again. She didn't want to get along well with Zhu'er, who was trying to steal her job. However, Qing'er understood the meaning behind her words and whispered to Gui'er, "The lady wants us to trick her."
Gui'er suddenly stopped feeling depressed, but still a little puzzled, she asked, "What are you trying to get her to say?" She then looked at Jiang Lan, waiting for her instructions. Qing'er also looked at Jiang Lan and asked, "What does the young lady want to know?"
Jiang Lan said, "Just find out if Zhu'er was really sick before."
When she asked if Zhu'er was still in the house, Aunt Liu's expression was obviously a little unnatural. In addition, Qing'er had told her before that she heard Zhu'er was sick, and her intuition told her that there might be something fishy going on.
Jiang Lan asked Aunt Liu to bring the person over tomorrow, but she brought Zhu'er over in the afternoon, as if she was afraid that the duck in her mouth would fly away.
"This is the Second Young Miss, hurry up and call someone~" Aunt Liu pushed Zhu'er forward. Zhu'er lowered her head and called out "Second Young Miss". She looked shy, her voice was particularly clear, and her figure was very slim, like a little bird.
In Guier's eyes, she looked like a little vixen. She was already resistant to him, and now she was even more resistant.
As usual, Jiang Lan asked her how old she was and where she had served before. Zhu'er was hesitant, so Aunt Liu answered for her, saying that she was sixteen years old and had helped her in the small kitchen before. She concealed the fact that Zhu'er had served Zhang before.
"Don't worry, Miss, this girl is very hardworking. If you have anything to ask, just tell her~"
Gui'er said dissatisfiedly: "Looking at the way she looks, I'm afraid she will be blown away by the wind." Qing'er smiled and pulled Gui'er's clothes to ask her to be patient.
"What are you talking about, Miss Gui'er? Why does a girl need to be so strong? It's not like she has to fetch water or chop firewood every day." Aunt Liu said with a smile.
Gui'er was choked and wanted to retort, but when she heard Jiang Lan speak, she decided not to argue with her for the time being.
"Don't worry, auntie. There's not much heavy work to do in my yard. Miss Zhu'er just needs to sweep the yard and water the flowers every day."
Aunt Liu answered yes hurriedly, and then warned Zhu'er not to be lazy in the future and to serve her master wholeheartedly. She also thanked Jiang Lan profusely and went back happily.
Jiang Lan asked Qing'er to explain the rules of the yard to Zhu'er, saying that she was a little tired, so she took Gui'er back to the house first. After coming in, Gui'er reminded Jiang Lan to be careful with Zhu'er, as he looked dishonest.
After Qing'er finished explaining the rules to Zhu'er, she took her to familiarize herself with the yard, then took her to her residence and asked her to rest today and start working tomorrow.
After dinner, Qing'er brought her another box of ointment, and Zhu'er was a little flattered.
"This is what the young lady asked me to give you. Everyone in our yard has a box. It's very useful for wiping your face and hands. Come on, take it."
After Qing'er left, Zhu'er opened the ointment and a pleasant floral scent wafted out. She picked up a little with her fingernail and applied it on her hand. It felt very delicate, better than the rouge and powder she had used before. She felt that her mother's decision to let her come and serve the second young lady was absolutely the right one.
In the evening, the three maids, Lu'er, Cui'er, and Xiaohong, took the initiative to come and talk to Zhu'er. Zhu'er quickly integrated into this small group and felt that everyone in the courtyard was easy to talk to. It was different from the previous situation in the mistress's courtyard, where everyone was like black-eyed chickens, fighting openly and secretly...
After breakfast the next day, Zhu'er and Lu'er cleaned the yard together, but her eyes kept glancing outside the yard, as if she wanted to go out or waiting for someone to come.
At noon, Qing'er took Zhu'er to the small kitchen to get lunch, and then Qing'er came back alone, allowing the mother and daughter to talk for a while.
After giving her a lot of instructions, Aunt Liu personally sent her back, as if she was afraid that she would run around on the road.
School ended early today and Jiang Rui came back early.
Ever since Shunfu was replaced, he has become much more restrained and his life has become very boring. Jiang Cheng has to check his homework personally every day, and he can no longer muddle through like before.
The teacher assigned little homework today, and he had nothing to do after finishing it. He was bored, so he thought of visiting Jiang Lan and telling her about the new things he heard in school a few days ago.
When Jiang Rui came over, Jiang Lan was looking at the account book in the house. He walked to the door and peeked inside, and was discovered by Gui'er. Gui'er was about to come over to ask him what was the matter, but he walked in by himself.
"Second sister, have you heard that the third daughter of the Zheng family is going to be the Princess of An?" Jiang Rui came over and said excitedly. Jiang Lan looked up at him, "Fourth brother, who told you that?" Jiang Rui lowered his voice and said, "Zheng Hao told me. He said that the Empress invited his third sister to the palace a few days ago." He then consoled her, "Second sister, it doesn't matter if you can't become the Princess of An. After all, you still have the Marquis~"
As soon as Jiang Lan closed the account book, Jiang Rui became a little timid. She asked him if he had made any progress in his studies recently. Jiang Rui was disgusted when he heard this and found an excuse to slip away.
Just as he went out, someone suddenly called him. He turned his head in that direction, his expression changed, and then he ran away as if he didn't hear anything.
This scene happened to be seen by Qing'er.
Jiang Rui ran away as fast as if he had seen a ghost in broad daylight. Zhu'er covered her handkerchief with her hands and walked away feeling aggrieved.
After Qing'er entered the house, she told Jiang Lan what she saw. Gui'er was listening beside her. She was surprised at first and then gossiped, thinking that there must be something fishy going on between the two.
Jiang Lan probably guessed what was going on, and asked Qing'er and Gui'er to pay more attention to Zhu'er.
