Chapter 22 Corpse Demon
Crooked trees surrounded an irregular circular open space, on which were raised mounds of earth, and in front of a few of the mounds there were wooden boards with words written on them.
It looked like this was a cemetery, and she was standing in the middle of it, with a ghost fire floating on her left shoulder.
Yue Qiran frowned and looked at the surrounding woods. It was very dark inside, with a few ghost lights occasionally floating by, giving it an indescribable sense of eeriness. Of course, no matter how eerie it was, it was not as frightening as this cemetery in the center of the woods.
She stepped out of the coffin, but before she could stand still, a hand grabbed her ankle. It was cold and a little prickly.
"It's so warm, little girl, can you lend me some of your flesh?"
Yue Qiran looked down and saw a pale corpse lying on the ground, smiling at her. Through its open mouth, she could see the dark earth directly.
She refused expressionlessly: "No."
As she spoke, corpses emerged from the mound. One of the one-legged corpses was holding a bone cane and laughed, "Little girl, do you know what it means to respect the elderly and love the young?"
Yue Qiran gave it a look and said, "I don't know how to respect the elderly, but I can love the young."
The corpse staggered forward a few steps and said, "I don't like children. Do you know where these bones in my hand came from?"
"From your legs." She said as she kicked the corpse off her feet. With a click, the corpse flew away, but the hand was still on her foot. She calmly bent down and pulled the hand off.
The corpse screamed heartbreakingly in the distance: "My hand!"
The next second, the hand was thrown into his mouth.
The corpse holding the cane snapped, "Do you know who we are? How dare you do this to us?"
Yue Qiran nodded and said, "I know, a low-level corpse demon."
The low-level corpse demon died with full of resentment. With low magic power, he could not enter the cycle of reincarnation and had no knowledge of his past. Only a corpse was left wandering in the world.
Hearing her answer, the corpse screamed, put the "crutch" back on its leg, and jumped and ran towards the woods: "Ahhh! She knows who we are!"
Another corpse hugged its waist: "Why are you running! Why don't you catch her? There are more people... Bah, Mordor has more power!"
A group of corpses rushed up screaming.
A quarter of an hour later, a pile of corpses lay on the ground, their feet and hands either tied with willow branches or stuffed into the mouths of another corpse.
Yue Qiran rubbed his hands, ignoring the blood that was flowing out of the wound again, and looked at these corpse demons thoughtfully.
Under normal circumstances, low-level corpse demons would not be so lively. They are born out of resentment and should have great hatred for humans, and take pleasure in intimidating humans.
Just as she was thinking, the pile of earth was dug up again, and a person crawled out from it. As luck would have it, what he faced was a white head.
He was so frightened that he jumped out of the coffin. He took a few steps back before he reacted. He breathed a sigh of relief and muttered, "Can you guys please stop...wait! Who made you like this?"
The gagged corpse groaned, and the hand in his mouth pointed to his back with difficulty.
He turned around stiffly and happened to see Yue Qiran smiling at him. He silently raised the knife in his hand.
Two minutes later, the man was tied up with willow branches, looking incredibly weak.
One of the corpses whimpered, "Little Lizi, we did as you said, but she's not afraid of us and is as strong as a man."
Another upside-down corpse struggled to raise its head: "Do you think she could be a transvestite?"
"Oh, it's possible. If she were a woman, it would be impossible for her not to be frightened."
The man looked at the group of corpses and began to discuss this issue excitedly. His eyes went dark and he turned around trembling. The banshee was still smiling.
Yes, a banshee. Apart from a banshee, he couldn't imagine anyone else looking so gorgeous, so breathtakingly beautiful.
The banshee found a place to sit down, propped up her chin with one hand, and looked at him, saying, "Speaking of which, how do you kill a corpse demon? Crush it? No, even if it's shattered, it can be reassembled. How about burning it?"
The man's expression gradually turned ugly, and he forced a smile before saying, "Fairy, although they are ignorant and have offended you, they have no intention of harming anyone and have never harmed anyone. Can you please spare their lives for now?"
Yue Qiran sat up straight, casually broke off a willow branch from a nearby tree, and did not answer.
He moved over here with difficulty and continued to ask: "Then tell me, how can we let them go?"
She stretched herself, stood up and replied, "This is not up to you or me."
"Then who has the final say?"
Yue Qiran looked at the coffin she had climbed out of. This was the boss lady's place, so naturally the boss lady had the final say.
The moon was at its zenith, and she was dozing off when the coffin started moving again. She opened her eyes and saw the landlady coming out.
Before she could speak, the group of corpses began to riot:
"Yuniang! Save me!"
“Yu Niang, there’s a bad woman!”
“Mmmmm…”
The man struggled to jump to her and shouted, "Sister, be careful!"
Even the boss lady couldn't help but be shocked when she saw this scene. Yue Qiran stood up and said to her: "Boss lady, are these your people... and demons?"
She smiled bitterly and nodded in acknowledgment: "Yes, did they scare the girl?"
Yue Qiran replied calmly, "A little bit."
"The little girl is lying. She wasn't scared by us at all!" The corpse who first grabbed her ankle was howling there.
She gave the corpse a look, and it immediately shut its mouth in embarrassment.
Seeing this, the proprietress couldn't help but laugh and said, "Sorry, they are always very lively."
"It's okay, it's actually quite cute."
The two men walked over to help untie them.
The man who was ignored howled: "Sister, look at me, I haven't been untied yet!"
"Shut up!"
The man closed his mouth in grievance and muttered something to himself.
Soon, the innkeeper and the accountant also arrived, looking a little embarrassed. Although they were shocked by the scene before them, they did not ask any questions. Instead, the landlady spoke up: "How is it going?"
The waiter replied, "Don't worry, it's been taken care of."
I think it should be her business.
Yue Qiran was about to ask when she suddenly felt dizzy. She held her head and staggered back a few steps. Her sight happened to meet the empty eyes of a corpse. Oh no, it was an invasion of demonic energy.
The proprietress's worried voice rang out: "Girl, what's wrong with you? Girl!"
She couldn't answer and fell straight down, and a corpse flew over to serve as a cushion.
It's really uncomfortable. I might as well let her fall to the ground.
This was her last thought before she passed out.
