Chapter 11: Flying Now - Don't Underestimate the Power of the Ocean
Xuefei's red, tear-filled eyes were filled with gratitude.
"Yu Yan, thank you, thank you so much." As she spoke, Xue Fei choked up again.
He held Qiu Ze's shoulder tightly, still feeling lingering fear as he recalled what had just happened.
When Moye left, he said he would take good care of Qiuze and wait for him to come back at home.
If Qiu Ze is gone, how am I supposed to explain this to him? Not to mention him, I will never forgive myself in this lifetime.
Yu Yan saved Qiu Ze's life, and he was extremely grateful.
But he's terrible with words; all he can say is thank you, and even he finds that distasteful.
Yu Yan noticed his embarrassment, smiled kindly, and patted Qiu Ze's head: "It's good that you're alright, little one. Take good care of yourself when you get back. If you get a fever, diarrhea, or any other discomfort, come see me again."
"Mmm." Xuefei carefully wrote down his instructions and pushed Qiu Ze forward half a step.
Qiu Ze's rabbit ears hadn't retracted yet when they bumped right into Yu Yan's palm.
He is a lop-eared rabbit, with gray, fluffy, thick ears that feel exceptionally good to the touch.
Yu Yan was a little curious, and her eyes lit up when she put her hand down.
"Qiu Ze, you should also thank Yu Yan," Xue Fei said earnestly.
Qiu Ze looked up at Yu Yan, his face slightly flushed, his voice slightly hoarse, but he said very obediently:
"Brother Yu Yan, thank you for saving me. I was so scared when I was in the sea. I thought I would never see my father and my father again."
As he spoke, his eyes welled up with tears.
Xuefei suppressed her soft heart and sternly lectured, "So, why did you come to the seaside? Didn't I tell you not to go too far from the tribe? Do you know how dangerous it is here?"
Qiu Ze lowered his head and said softly, "I... I know... I saw that you like to eat fish, so I wanted to come to the beach to pick fish for you to eat..."
Xuefei felt extremely distressed.
His voice softened slightly: "How could fish falling into the sea while you were picking them up on the beach?"
When this was mentioned, Qiu Ze looked terrified: "I don't know what happened. A wave came up and swept me away!"
Shuoxing and the others chimed in, "Yes, yes, we saw it too!"
"The wave wasn't big or fierce; it just flowed in calmly, and we didn't pay any attention to it."
"Who knew that Qiu Ze would disappear in the blink of an eye!"
“We all panicked. Later, I told the others to stay far away on the shore, and I transformed into my beast form and pulled Qiu Ze out of the sea.” These were the words of Shuoxing.
Xin Yu and Cang Feng stood together, looking at Shuo Xing, and said seriously, "You deserve praise for pulling Qiu Ze out of the sea. But bringing these little ones to the beach was your idea too, wasn't it?"
Shuoxing avoided eye contact and stammered without saying a word.
Xin Yu said coldly, "Qiu Ze is still so young. If Yu Yan hadn't arrived in time today, what serious consequences would have occurred? You apologize to Xue Fei and Qiu Ze right now!"
Shuoxing immediately said sincerely, "Uncle Xuefei, Qiu Ze, I'm sorry."
Xuefei sighed and said, "Don't do such dangerous things next time. If you want to go out, make sure an adult is with you. All of you kids are."
Shuoxing and the other children replied in unison, "We understand."
Xuefei then said to Xinyu, "Qiu Ze also made a mistake. I will teach him a lesson when we get back."
Xin Yu glared at Shuo Xing with a stern face.
"When you get back, you should reflect on your actions. You were incredibly audacious to run so far without telling your parents."
Shuoxing touched his nose and glanced at Yu Yan.
Yu Yan: "?"
Oh, he knows. He used to be "foolish," and these kids didn't dare take him too far away.
Now that they've lost themselves, they've come out to explore.
No wonder Shuoxing asked him before if he wanted to go somewhere farther away with them.
Yu Yan emphasized just as seriously: "Xin Yu and Xue Fei are right. We must learn from this lesson and stay away from the water."
The children nodded repeatedly.
Shuoxing added, "You adults should also be careful, lest you get eaten by the waves."
One of the orcs chimed in, "Judging from your description, it's just a small wave. We're strong enough not to get swept away."
Yu Yan retorted seriously: "Not necessarily. I know what the kids are talking about, the wave is called a rip current, which is actually a strong current."
"Rip currents are calm on the surface and particularly deceptive. When they come, they do not make a sound like giant waves, so they never attract people's attention."
"This rip current is also extremely fast; it can sweep you into the deep sea in just a few breaths."
"The strength required to break free from the current is terrifying, and you also need extraordinary courage and calm judgment."
As Yu Yan spoke, the crowd fell completely silent.
Everyone looked at him and listened attentively to what he had to say.
Yu Yan grew up by the sea and knows the immense power the ocean holds, so she has a deep reverence for it.
Orcs are indeed the darlings of this era, possessing unimaginable strength, but they are still insignificant in the face of the vast ocean.
Now that people have more contact with the ocean, the possibility of encountering danger has also increased.
As a doctor and a member of the tribe, he had to explain the pros and cons to everyone.
Never underestimate the power of the ocean.
Upon hearing his warning, someone asked worriedly, "Isn't this rip current terrifying? Is there any way to tell it apart?"
Yu Yan thought for a moment and gestured as she said, "The rip current flows vertically into the sea like this, so you can see if there is any white foam or silt at the intervals between the white waves, which then drift towards the calmer waters."
"Also, check if there are any narrow, murky, strip-shaped currents in the sea. If there are, remember to avoid them."
Everyone, including the cubs, was completely engrossed in the conversation.
Yu Yan then explained a few more terrain features that can affect rip currents, and then talked about how to save yourself if you are unfortunately swept away by a rip current.
"...In short, be careful as much as possible, and it's best not to get caught up in it."
After hearing Yu Yan's words, many people looked at him with admiration.
Cang Feng stepped forward and said solemnly, "Yu Yan, thank you for telling us so much. When we return to the tribe, I will pass these words on to the others in the tribe."
Seeing how much they cared, Yu Yan felt that her efforts had not been in vain.
"Okay," he said with satisfaction.
Cangfeng: "And regarding Qiu Ze's matter, we really owe you a lot."
“That’s right!” someone else asked curiously, “Yu Yan, how do you know so much?”
Yu Yan smiled and said, "I heard it from someone else."
"I see..."
Like He Fenggui, people mistakenly believed that Yu Yan learned from the elders in the tribe or from the beastmen who traded.
Yu Yan didn't explain further.
Looking at the sky, it was already late, and the tide had risen onto the mudflats.
He had originally planned to collect some crabs and shellfish to eat after changing his route, but now he can't.
Yu Yan then asked everyone, "Shall we go back to the tribe now?"
"Go back!"
The beastmen transformed into their beast forms and carried familiar sub-beastmen and their cubs; the flying sub-beastmen sprouted wings.
Yu Yan looked at it, smiled, and conjured up her own wings.
"Xuefei, I'm not going with you today. I'm flying back with my father."
Hehe, thanks to my eagerness to save people, I can finally fly!
Xuefei, holding Qiuze's hand, smiled and waved to him:
"Okay, be careful."
"Whoosh—" Yu Yan spread her wings and took off.
His legs lifted off the ground, and his body grew taller and taller.
The feeling was truly amazing; he finally understood what it meant to be "light as a swallow"!
So fresh, so refreshing!
Unfortunately, his triumph was short-lived. He suddenly lost his balance and fell headfirst!
Those behind and on the ground were all holding their breath.
Someone exclaimed, "Yu Yan, watch out!"
Yu Yan was also in a great hurry, flapping her wings, kicking her feet, tilting her head to the sky, and exerting all her strength.
Just when he thought he was about to have a close encounter with the earth and closed his eyes, his body suddenly felt light again, and he was spun around and pulled up!
Whoosh! He pressed on and flew up a little further, only letting out a quiet sigh of relief after regaining his footing.
The person who had just been startled by him thought he was showing off and laughed, saying, "Yu Yan, that's enough, don't overdo it!"
Yu Yan gave a dry laugh: "Haha, I know." Actually, her back was soaked with sweat.
He adjusted the basket on his back and, using the wind, flew towards the tribe.
Soaring through the air, you can take in all the beautiful scenery.
As the breeze swept past on both sides, he felt a deep sense of freedom and joy.
As he ascended to a higher altitude, he looked down upon the miniature mountains, rocks, vegetation, wild animals, and flying insects on the earth, and his heart was filled with a sense of peace and indescribable joy.
Perhaps due to the influence of his beast-type genes, his throat felt itchy, and he really wanted to sing a few birds' calls.
Of course, he controlled it.
Finally, he just shook his head and said, "Time to go home~"
He could fly, but he lacked skill, and the Feng Gui and other sub-orcs, who were lagging behind him, quickly caught up with him.
As for orcs like Cangfeng, they can fly higher and faster than them.
Yu Yan looked up and saw that Cangfeng was carrying Xin Yu and was about to disappear into the clouds, with Shuoxing transformed into a small peregrine falcon chasing desperately behind.
"Pfft." He couldn't help but laugh out loud.
"What are you laughing at, so happy?" Feng Guifei asked as he walked to his side.
"Haha, it's nothing."
"I'll fly ahead of you, and you can use my wind to save some effort."
"Great! Thank you, Father!"
The two flew back to their tribe, one after the other, flapping their wings, and arrived at the ginkgo tree where they lived.
Yu Yan glanced at Lan Xiu's residence; it was quiet, and she wondered if he had returned home yet.
After landing, they transformed back into arms and unloaded the items from their backs.
"I'll pack my things," Feng Gui said.
"Then I'll go gather firewood and fetch water!"
Yu Yan turned to leave, but Feng Gui called out to him, "By the way, the three-leaf vine is almost soaked and can be peeled now."
"Really!" Yu Yan immediately forgot what she had just said. "I want to go take a look!"
He quickly ran to the puddle, scooped up a three-leaf vine, and peeled it with his fingernail. The skin was indeed much easier to peel than before.
He peeled the bark off the three-leaf vine and hurried back to the ginkgo tree.
