The broken glass of the abandoned building's windows creaked and rattled in the wind.
Ignoring Matsuo Ryohei's agonizing regret, Willy turned around, gently opened the twisted and deformed window, and peered out.
The morning breeze caressed his cheeks, making his hair flutter. He gazed intently at the rising golden light and whispered:
"Look, it's dawn."
-
The moment Kii Kanade discovered Hasegawa Teru, she had already dialed the police.
After they left the old school building, the police rushed up and arrested Matsuo Ryohei, while several doctors in white coats took Hasegawa Teru from Yukimura Masashi and carried him onto a stretcher.
The scene before them was noisy and bustling, attracting the attention of the villagers, who gathered around and whispered among themselves.
A somewhat familiar figure approached the group, looking at Vili and Yukimura Masashi.
“I knew it was you guys.” The chubby police officer’s tone was tinged with surprise, but his brows were furrowed. “I never expected something like this to happen in such a small village.”
"The child was seriously injured, but after a preliminary examination, the doctor determined that his life was not in danger and that he would not suffer any long-term effects. It was a miracle."
"But this is also a blessing in disguise... I never imagined that someone could do such a cruel thing to a child, especially since he is a teacher!"
"Oh, and I also want to thank you all for solving another case..."
Before the other party could respond, he said all that, then adjusted his hat and continued:
"With your skill level, it's a real waste for you to be exorcists, haha."
He looked at the group, focusing particularly on Yukimura Masashi.
"I heard you're still a student. Would you be interested in working for the Metropolitan Police Department after you graduate?"
"..."
Kii Kanade quietly pulled Willi a little closer to him, so they could watch Yukimura Masashi's joke together.
The aloof young man glanced at him, shook his head stiffly, and replied, "Sorry, my future career path has already been decided."
The officer clearly felt disappointed, clicked his tongue, and, unwilling to give up, said:
"Even if you don't want to be a police officer, you can always consider developing a side business. I don't know if you've seen the newspapers lately, but there's a high school detective who's become quite famous recently, and I know him pretty well..."
"His name is Kudo—"
Before he could finish speaking, he was interrupted by a commotion from not far away, and the group of people all looked over at the same time.
Matsuo Ryohei, wearing silver handcuffs, was being escorted by a group of policemen. Upon seeing the Yumi-shi who were talking, he suddenly became agitated, stopped in his tracks, and shouted:
"You are not—"
"you--"
He was speaking when his face contorted like a demon's, his tightly bound hands raised, and he scratched his neck until it bled, leaving behind a trail of finger marks. His mouth was open, but he couldn't utter a word.
The police rushed to stop it, and chaos ensued.
Matsuo Ryohei's eyes were bloodshot, and he was still unwilling to give up. Even though his arm was being held tightly, he stared intently in this direction.
"I saw it, you all—"
"They took it!"
He was clearly prepared to die with everyone else, but why, why couldn't he say anything?!
He lost all strength in despair, looked around, and saw only identical uniforms everywhere; he couldn't make out their faces.
He tried to explain with gestures, but the police just stared at his twitching, immobile fingers and shouted:
"Grab him!"
"Take him away!"
One of the policemen gave an apologetic salute and then dragged the limp Matsuo Ryohei away.
He muttered to himself, "Is this guy mentally ill?"
“I can guarantee that,” the boy said, having appeared beside him at some point. “He is definitely a fully capable adult.”
"What they're showing now is probably all an act to reduce their punishment."
"When you testify in court, be sure to include this point."
The police officer looked at his face, blinked twice slowly, and suddenly blushed.
"Um..." He scratched the back of his head, looking slightly embarrassed, and chuckled awkwardly. "I don't know if you remember me. I was in charge of recording the testimonies at the hotel."
Despite having absolutely no recollection of the person in front of him, Willy nodded earnestly, then added, still uneasy:
“Matsuo Ryohei is definitely not mentally ill, you have to believe me.”
The police officer was moved by his attitude and reluctantly agreed.
"I understand, I will testify about that."
"Um... if you're really interested in how this goes, could you leave me... um... contact information..."
What are you saying?
Kii Kanade walked over quickly, a gentle smile still on her lips, but she used her body to separate Vili from the police.
As he spoke, his gaze met that of Matsuo Ryohei, who paused for a moment, then suddenly opened his eyes wide and spoke:
"You lied to me! You clearly said the contract's condition was death if it was revealed."
But just like before, he was bound by some inexplicable force halfway through his sentence, and no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't utter a single word.
Spending the rest of his life in prison was already inevitable for him; he had hoped that his sudden death would arouse the police's suspicion about these strange exorcists.
But now, he can't even do that.
Kii Kanade raised an eyebrow as if puzzled, a glint of light flashing in her eyes.
Did I say anything?
"ah."
