Chapter 34 A Complete Loss

Ero was not knowledgeable in politics, but even he could tell from the king's attitude that there was no way to resolve the matter.

From that day on, he locked himself in the laboratory, brewing a potion that would never succeed.

Even when he was struggling with experimental problems, Desmond had never seen him so dejected. Seeing his once brilliant junior become so utterly despondent made him want to assassinate Aiden himself.

Unexpectedly, after being dead for so many years, he woke up one day to find himself helping his descendants solve their relationship problems.

The white skeleton sighed softly.

"You've done your best, I don't think the beauty will blame you."

Ero was not comforted in the slightest.

"But I clearly promised him."

He stood stubbornly in place, like a lifeless corpse, his lips pale.

"If I can't even solve his problems, how... how can I have the right to say I like him?"

In this laboratory where only he and his ancestors were present, he finally revealed his true feelings, laying bare his bloodied heart.

If his initial attraction to Willy was merely a lingering human emotion—because anyone who beholds such beauty would be captivated and yearn for it, it was an instinct he couldn't resist.

But later, after spending so much time with Vili, in those magical exchanges that sparked inspiration, in that unspoken understanding where he would say one thing and Vili would immediately respond with the next, he was hopelessly moved.

Eero Greenwood was praised as a "natural necromancer" even in his youth. This was not only because of his extraordinary talent, but also because of his personality.

He was a loner from a young age, but this was not due to exclusion from others. After all, as a member of the Greenwood family, people were eager to curry favor with him.

So it was all his own choice.

He chose to exile himself, living apart from humanity, and devoted himself entirely to the study of the dead.

In his view, the souls that gleamed in the darkness and the stark white bones in the wilderness were far more beautiful than humans.

And he has always put his ideas into practice, devoting himself to solitary research for decades.

After recreating the skeleton summoning technique from the ancient text, he didn't hesitate to gouge out one of his own eyes, just to confirm his idea.

Sacrificed emotions? That was too insignificant to him.

He was undoubtedly a martyr, willing to burn himself for his ideals.

He never regretted it—

But fate loves to play tricks on people; after he was crippled, Willy appeared.

A strange emotion surged within him, overflowing and permeating his very being at the mere sight of that person. At first, it was an overwhelming joy; he began to anticipate meeting Willy, as if that were the very meaning of life.

The dark and gloomy laboratory was completely transformed by his arrival. During that time, he was often lost in thought, but a silly smile would always creep onto his lips.

But at the same time, shadows also clung to his body beneath the light.

He had tried his best to ignore it, but Aiden's news still reached his ears like a persistent leech.

I heard he and Willy were born on the same day, a destiny ordained by heaven. I heard Willy loved chasing after him since they were little, and the two have never been apart since childhood. I heard…

Aiden Aiden Aiden, why do people like this exist in the world?

He used to resent himself for having less emotion than others, which made him feel that he couldn't express enough to Willy. But now, he was grateful that at least this way, the dense, overwhelming pain would be less.

His conversation with Willy in the lab that day filled him with ecstasy; he had placed almost all his hopes on it.

Then, everything was lost.

What right does he have to see Vili now?

Desmond looked at him and felt that the man's pale face made him look even more like a skeleton than he did. If he could, he really wanted to roll his eyes.

He threw the paper in his hand to the ground in a fit of pique.

"Then you can just keep wallowing in self-pity forever!"

"You just stand by and watch the beauty fall in love with another man. Whether it's the renowned Holy Son, the upright and fearless Knight Commander, or even that useless Prince, I think they're all better than you!"

"Or perhaps, even my skeletal frame has the right to pursue beautiful women?"

Like lightning piercing the night, the dead returned to the mortal realm. Ero's face suddenly regained color, probably from anger.

"What nonsense are you talking about?"

“I’m telling you, if you don’t go to class soon, it’s your own fault if the beauty is with other people.”

Desmond sneered.

Ero seemed not to understand his words and stammered:

What do you mean by that?

“I really don’t know what you’re hesitating about here.” Desmond didn’t answer his question. “Do you think you’re terrible, even worse than that useless Aiden?”

“You are my descendant, the pride of the Greenwood family. With your achievements, your name will be in the history books, an indelible mark in the history of necromancy.”

"A thousand years from now, after the Celdos royal family has fallen, how many people do you think will still know who Aiden is?"

"But your name will be forever remembered by necromancers!"

"What is Aiden?"

Desmond's voice grew louder and louder, almost exploding right next to Ero's ear.

"Forget about the engagement, even if they get married, the beauty will only choose you!"

"You, you..."
