Chapter 5 April Fool's Day Extra: Actor Paradox (Part 2)

After saying that, he hung up the phone and slipped into the storage room next door, leaving Adrian on the other end staring blankly at the call log and sighing.

Willie pressed his ear tightly to the door until the footsteps passed, at which point he finally breathed a sigh of relief, the lit phone screen illuminating the dark, cramped space.

It was only then that he saw the unread text messages.

[Ero: Are you free tonight? I enjoyed our last chat, and I'd like to invite you out for dinner.]

Eero was also an actor that Willy had worked with before, but he was actually a specially appointed professor at a university, invited to answer professional questions and act as an advisor on set.

Unexpectedly, he was spotted by the director at first glance and cast as Willy's mentor.

He refused several times, and the director was about to give up, but the man who was with him, named Desmond, who was said to be a relative of his, though young, but of a very high generation, suddenly spoke up and asked the director to call over the lead actor, Willy.

The next day, Ero agreed to star in the film.

Although Willy had no idea what was going on, it was ultimately a good outcome.

Although Ero was quite aloof, his professional knowledge was impeccable. It just so happened that Willy was very interested in their industry, and he talked to him at length. The two had a very pleasant conversation, and naturally stayed in touch after filming wrapped.

After thinking for a moment, Willie didn't reply to him, but instead looked at other messages.

[Raine: Vili! Your favorite restaurant opened a new branch! Want to go together?]

[Ryan: Brother, are you free to have dinner together tonight? My treat.]

[Ruian: Tomato Restaurant flyer.jpg]

Vili raised an eyebrow. No wonder they were twins; even the time and content of their messages were almost identical.

Since their last collaboration, Ryan seems unable to break the habit of calling him "brother" from their on-screen relationship.

After thinking for a moment, Vili's finger twitched slightly, ready to choose one of them to reply to—

The next second, his phone screen suddenly went black.

"..."

Willy paused, but remained calm. He narrowed his eyes and spoke slowly and deliberately:

"Chu, come."

"I'm here, honey!"

Almost simultaneously, the screen lit up, and the somewhat thin young man laughed, a smile that didn't match his gloomy temperament on his pale face, his eyes fixed on Willy.

Upon hearing this address, Willy's brow twitched, but he gave up on correcting it.

As his own ardent fan, this guy had clearly written down every single word he said, and the data in the archives exceeded several gigabytes, yet he would never change his mind on this issue.

Who would have thought that, just to meet him, he would even secretly hack into the director's computer and sneak his resume into it...

The director himself was also unreliable; he genuinely thought that Chu Lai's image was perfect for the role of a hacker in the script, and actually invited him to join the crew!

Isn't that inappropriate? He's a hacker!

Willie wanted to end the video call, but no matter what he tapped, the screen wouldn't respond.

Noticing his action, Chu Lai licked his lips.

"Honey, you can hang up if you want."

"But you have to refuse everyone else and promise to have dinner with only me tonight!"

Are you threatening me?

Willy stopped what he was doing, his tone meaningful.

Chu Lai visibly panicked.

"N-no!"

"I'm sorry, my wife..."

He scratched his cheek with his index finger, looking dejected.

"I begged you to come eat with me..."

"I'll think about it."

Seeing the glint in the hacker's eyes, Vili added:

"Also, turn off those apps that are monitoring my phone!"

"but--"

Chu Lai opened his mouth, but under Vili's gaze, his head drooped lower and lower as he reluctantly said:

"Okay, I understand."

Willy watched the video call end with satisfaction, unaware that Chu Lai suddenly smiled at the end of the shot.

Anyway, my wife knows nothing about computer programs, so unless he tells her, who knows if he's turned it off or not...

Now, he wants to save every frame of his wife's video from the video!

By this time, there wasn't much rest time left. Willie regretfully put away his phone and was about to push open the door to go back.

However, before his hand could touch it, the door opened by itself.

Outside the door stood an extremely tall and muscular man with broad shoulders, his height reaching the top of the door frame. His bulging muscles were encased in a tight black vest, almost completely blocking out the light from the outside, not letting any light in.

He wore a mask, revealing only a pair of gray-blue eyes, and stared intently at Willy.

He was so intimidating; just looking at him made my legs feel weak and I kept backing away.

However, Willie smiled, almost skipping over, and lightly reached out to touch the man.

Despite the feather-light pressure, the man was pushed away and obediently stood outside the door, allowing Willy to walk out.

"Why are you here? Did Xie Liqi send you to find me?"

The man following behind him nodded upon hearing this.

Willy was used to his silence.

This is his personal bodyguard. No one knows his real name, and no one has ever seen his face. Everyone calls him "The Butcher."

Vili didn't know where this person came from, only that he smelled of blood and gunpowder on him, and that he had fallen at his doorstep on a rainy night.

At that time, he was not yet an actor. He was just secretly distressed about why he was always harassed by talent scouts when he walked on the street. No matter where he moved, there were always lewd perverts lurking around. Even calling the police was of no use.

The packages that arrived, the text messages he received, the glances he received... everything about them annoyed him to no end.

Those people seemed to think he was some kind of weak lamb to be bullied; some even came to him on their own initiative.

Of course, in the end, he "solved" them all.

Even so, one after another, clueless people still rushed up...

Until the butcher appeared.

Just by putting this person out there, without even lifting a finger, those people tremble like mice before a cat, their expressions utterly ridiculous.

Just like now, even though the crew has been around the butcher for a while, they still can't help but lower their heads and avoid a large open space when they see him.

Those who were infatuated with his face and wanted to get close to him only took one step before being stared at by the butcher and then frozen in place.

Despite the deathly silence around him, Willy felt no discomfort whatsoever, his steps were light, and he was in a cheerful mood.

Just like the little fox in the story of the fox borrowing the tiger's power, Willy's "tail" swayed gently.

Therefore, with his head held high and chest out, he didn't notice the butcher's gaze behind him—in reality, he was no different from those people.

Upon hearing Willy's footsteps, the director stood up from his chair and clapped his hands.

"Alright, our lead actor has arrived!"

"Everyone, get ready—"

"Action!"
