Xie Liqi reacted quickly, grabbing Willy's hand and pulling him into his arms. He turned around and pressed him against the corner door of the kitchen, ensuring that the butcher could not see the two of them at a glance.
The distance between them was even closer than last time.
Before Willy could react, Xie Liqi had already covered his mouth with his hand, leaving only a pair of bewildered eyes visible to the boy.
"Feel sorry."
He leaned down slightly, his lips brushing against Vili's earlobe, sending a tingling, electric sensation through him, but Xie Liqi seemed oblivious, completely focused on the commotion outside.
His voice was low and hoarse, and his breath made Vili move his head uncomfortably, but Xie Liqi stopped him a second later.
The young man used his body weight to press him into the corner, while his other free hand gently stroked Willy's hair, as if to ease his tension.
Willy blinked twice, trying to express his will with his eyes. Perhaps it was a telepathic connection, but Xie Liqi actually let go of his hand.
The next second, he pressed his finger to Willy's lips and whispered:
"Shh, don't speak, I'll protect you."
Finally, they could breathe fresh air. Vili nodded quickly like a chick pecking at rice, and a smile flashed in Xie Liqi's eyes.
Given the farmhouse's internal structure, once you enter through the main gate and walk straight through the hall, you'll immediately see the wide-open kitchen door. And given the butcher's exceptionally keen hearing, it's too late to close the door now.
Xie Liqi and he were old rivals. Even though he knew that the other party would not attack players during the day, if he saw two strangers breaking into his house... he might pull out a shotgun from somewhere.
With Vili by his side, he dared not gamble on that possibility.
Is the game about to end before it's even begun?
As they heard the heavy footsteps approaching, their hearts pounded, though for different reasons.
Xie Liqi meticulously counted the items in his game inventory, constantly mentally rehearsing how he should act to ensure Willy's escape should a conflict occur.
But what Vili was thinking was...
He's the main character, after all. Is he really going to perish here?
If he had only come to the farm to search for tools and been discovered by the butcher, he might have simply met his end. But now that he's brought Willie along, it might not just be a matter of a single fatal blow…
The butcher seemed to sense something was wrong. He paused as he was turning right and instead walked straight toward the kitchen.
Da, da, da.
Whether it was a hallucination or not, in the silence where only the sound of a heartbeat could be heard, Xie Liqi vaguely seemed to hear the sound of the butcher's boning knife dragging on the ground. The metal made a piercing, sharp scraping sound as it touched the floor, and the blade hissed as it sliced through his eardrums.
He moved his fingers, and a black pistol appeared in his palm, which he then handed to Vili.
He didn't speak, but looked at the boy intently, then nodded to him.
"..."
Willy never imagined that the other party would actually intend to keep the promise they had made before—
"If we really encounter danger, I will stay behind to cover the rear."
So this is the real protagonist?
Willing to sacrifice oneself to protect the weak...
Among the people Willy met, those with such high moral standards were extremely rare, not to mention that he usually encountered all sorts of perverts... He was practically a sheep among wolves.
Kid, I have high hopes for you!
He immediately grabbed Xie Liqi's sleeve and shook his head at him.
However, just as the two were entangled, the footsteps suddenly changed direction and headed towards the stairs on the side. The sound was slightly hurried, but Xie Liqi had no time to pay attention to those details at this moment.
He grabbed Willie's hand and ran out the instant the butcher's footsteps disappeared!
Their escape was like an elopement; the two sped away without looking back, their clasped hands a testament to their continued companionship.
It wasn't until she felt a violent struggle in her hands that Xie Liqi realized they had escaped, and when she turned around, she could only see the blurry shadow of the farm.
Vili patted his chest and breathed steadily. His legs were so weak that he wanted to sit down on the ground, but Xie Liqi grabbed his wrist.
I'm a physically weak magician!
He looked over with displeasure, but beads of sweat slid down his eyelashes, causing him to close his eyes, and his eyes involuntarily reddened.
"Don't sit down right after you finish running."
As soon as Xie Liqi finished speaking, a crystal tear fell from the corner of the boy's eye, like a dewdrop on a flower, and his heart trembled.
He loosened his grip, then turned and pulled the boy close, letting him lean entirely on him.
Then he reached out and wiped the moisture from the corner of Vili's eye with his fingertips.
"Don't be afraid, it's all over now."
Even though they were in a wide-open, deserted outdoor space, his voice remained soft, as if afraid of disturbing something.
He had never comforted anyone before, but at this moment the words came out as if by instinct.
The burning pain finally subsided, and Vili opened his eyes, blinking a few times to dispel the blur before his eyes, finally seeing Xie Liqi's face.
His usually aloof expression now strangely revealed a deep and tender affection, as if he would gladly lay bare his heart to the person before him.
Vili instinctively changed the subject.
What do we do next?
Xie Liqi glanced at the time. The tense and exciting escape made him almost think that he and the person in front of him had been together forever, but in reality, they had only been together for a day.
It's almost five o'clock now, so there should still be time to look for the next item, since he already knows where it's hidden.
