Chapter 83 The Price

"Il, how is the original owner of this body now?"

As he stroked the trembling back of the "evil god," Vili suddenly became lost in thought.

"My permissions aren't high enough to find out where he is..." The system's voice was clearly a little downcast, "But he's probably bound to some system and is doing a mission!"

In the original storyline, the original owner was a quiet and somewhat shy person. Although compared to players like Xie Liqi who had cheat codes, he seemed quite weak, he could probably live a good life in a peaceful world.

However, as a small-town NPC, he may no longer be a complete soul.

Not to mention him, the "evil god" in front of us is actually the same.

In the eyes of the supreme god, they were all nothing more than pawns that could be moved around at will.

Vili had almost figured out the whole story, but some details still needed to be confirmed.

His actions of calming the "evil god" paused, and a gentle light quietly appeared in his palm.

Let him take a look.

The origin of all this.

Sunset Town is located in a quiet, remote rural area, nestled like a pearl in the heart of a dense forest.

The vast greenery provides shelter for the town's residents, allowing them to live a peaceful and tranquil life.

One day, a child named "Villi" was born here.

His father died of illness before he was born. He inherited this misfortune from his bloodline, and was frail and sickly from a young age. Doctors once predicted that he would not live past the age of fifteen.

But he was also lucky; he had a mother who loved him dearly.

In this impoverished town, she raised him like a precious jewel. From age three to five, then from seven to ten, and later, he even crossed the death line and grew to eighteen.

His congenital deficiencies did not limit his future; with his intelligence, he was admitted to university.

During that holiday, he enthusiastically suggested to his mother, Alice, that since he felt his health was improving, he might be able to work on a farm to earn some money for his university living expenses.

Alice was somewhat worried about this, so she replied that she needed to think about it some more.

However, before she could make up her mind, everything took a sharp turn for the worse.

Everything seemed to be going well, but one morning, "Willy" suddenly became bedridden, followed by vomiting blood and falling into a coma.

The town's doctor shook his head at her.

"It's a miracle he's still alive..."

“Let him go.”

Let him go.

He was kept alive daily with expensive medications, a sight even the doctors couldn't bear to watch. "Vili" had gone blind, he was becoming delirious, and couldn't even recognize his own mother.

But... how could Alice possibly give up?

On a rainy night, she went alone to the town's only church, knelt at the feet of the Virgin Mary, and held in her hand a warm, jade-like stone, the pendant that "Villie" had never parted with since she was ten years old.

Then, she cut open her arm with a knife, letting the blood drip onto the stone surface, eventually filling the altar.

"God."

As if oblivious to the pain in her body, she simply stared intently at the angel pattern that gradually appeared on the stone, then brought her feet together and knelt down in devout worship.

"Just like the pendant of the guardian angel that I was given eight years ago... I beg you to protect my child once again."

"Over the years, I have prayed sincerely day and night. I believe in Your mercy and miracles, and I beg for Your grace. For this, I am willing to give up everything, just so that You may hear my prayers..."

Alice prayed from nightfall until dawn, her voice becoming hoarse and her knees turning blue from kneeling, but she seemed oblivious to it, simply repeating the same words over and over.

As if moved by her sincerity, the golden statue of the Virgin Mary opened its eyes and quietly looked down at the woman at its feet.

He spoke:

“My faithful follower… Alice, I have heard your plea. But I still ask you, for your child, are you truly willing to pay any price?”

Alice's body stiffened for a moment. She moved her numb body and crawled to the feet of the Virgin Mary.

"Yes, yes... God, even if it costs me my life right now, I would do it willingly!"

The Virgin Mary closed her eyes, and a tear slid down from the corner of her eye, turning into a black gemstone.

"Go back now. Today, everything will be answered."

When Alice stumbled back to the hospital, she saw "Vili's" cold body.

The heavily pregnant doctor sighed.

"Regarding the disposal of the remains..."

"...I will take him home."

He thought the mother would break down because of this, but to his surprise, Alice was surprisingly calm, except for her pale face.

Before leaving, she even said a respectful goodbye to the doctor.

"David, thank you for your help all this time."

After returning home, she settled her child on the bed, staring blankly at his beautiful face, waiting for night to fall.

She was even talking to herself in a low voice.

“Vili, my child… don’t be afraid, the Lord God will resurrect you, and you will awaken as before…”

"Didn't you say you wanted to work and study at the farm? I've already discussed it with the butcher. He may seem strange, but he's a good person and will take care of you."

"After you go to university..."

She kept rambling on and on until it got dark.

It was a moonless night, with thick, dark clouds obscuring the starlight. A bolt of lightning ripped across the sky, and the thunder startled Alice awake. She realized that she had somehow fallen asleep next to the table.

"Vili's" body still lay quietly on the bed, but the next second, his chest began to rise and fall, as if he were still alive and breathing.

Alice's eyes widened, and she instinctively wanted to rush over to check his breath, but the next second she saw the boy open his eyes.

Those eyes seemed to hold the deepest darkness, with black mist swirling around them, almost overflowing from their sockets. Alice couldn't help but take two steps back.

"Alice".

"Vili" opened his lips, his voice deep and unlike any other creature in the world.

"...The Supreme God?"

Alice touched her thumping chest and tentatively opened her mouth.

"I've come to collect the price."

A contract appeared out of nowhere, an old parchment was spread out on the table, and a quill pen lay beside it.

“Sign your name and promise to offer your soul to me, and I will resurrect your son.”

As if bewitched, Alice picked up the pen, but then hesitated and turned her head away.

"but……"

The darkness in "Vili's" eyes suddenly vanished, revealing a pair of clear eyes. But the next moment, large tears welled up in her eyes.

"Mom, it hurts so much..."

"I want to go home..."

Alice's hand tightened instinctively, but before she could say anything, the Supreme God took over "Vili's" body again.

Finally, she made up her mind.

The moment Alice put pen to paper, the peaceful and serene town of Sunset was shrouded in a blood-red mist, and she suddenly lost consciousness.
