Chapter 33 finished singing, turn left, and it's still...

After finishing the song, turn left and go to the first row first.

The bright light made my eyes water, and I almost cried.

Fang Minzhou didn't want to see Wang Kan's reaction, but his gaze was too direct; the left side of her face flushed under his stare. Unable to resist, she glanced over. Seeing her looking at him, he touched his neck somewhat embarrassedly.

Fang Min was completely confused, not knowing what Wang Kan was shy about. She hadn't even done anything yet... when Wang Kan suddenly gave her a thumbs up.

Fang Minzhou's face flushed. She straightened her gaze and joined the last person in the first row.

In the end, their class won second place in the group competition, which was a pretty good result. The host announced the successful conclusion of the arts festival, and the last thing to do was to move the chairs back to the classroom.

People gathered gradually, but dispersed all at once. Plus, carrying chairs upstairs was more strenuous than downstairs, causing congestion in the teaching building corridors. Some boys held chairs overhead, managing to pass through the crowd relatively easily, but those around them craned their necks and tried to back away, afraid the chairs would fall and hit them.

But someone beat him to it.

“…I can carry it myself, thank you, class monitor.” As Fang Minzhou said this, he caught a glimpse of Wang Kan running quickly down the stairs, clinging to the handrail. But when he saw her with Lin Sinian, he slowed his pace, gradually moving from the shadows to the light, a hint of wariness on his face.

Fang Minzhou immediately thought of Wang Kan's previous nonsense, feeling speechless, amused, and a little annoyed at being misunderstood. She and Lin Sinian rarely spoke, and she really didn't know where he got his association from; it was all so inexplicable.

Ouyang Qian handed the chair to Lin Sinian without any hesitation, and Lin Sinian carried one in each hand upstairs, while Ouyang Qian went to help the smaller girls in the class.

Fang Minzhou dragged her chair past Wang Kan, and he followed. In the bustling crowd, Fang Minzhou felt as if she had suddenly gained a little tail. Feeling guilty and afraid of being seen by others, she slightly turned her head away from Wang Kan and said in a voice that only the two of them could hear, "...Go help someone else."

Wang Kan touched his ear, but looking around, there was no one who could help him.

Suddenly, he noticed Sun Tong a few steps above them. She was looking at them, her face still expressionless, but her downcast gaze seemed to be observing them.

Wang Kan was taken aback, but Sun Tong had already looked away.

In that instant, Wang Kan seemed to understand a little better why Fang Minzhou was avoiding him.

He himself was a simple-minded person, but that didn't stop him from disliking complicated people. For example, Lin Sinian, the so-called refined scoundrel. The most polite and refined people are the most hypocritical. As a fellow boy, he really didn't believe that Lin Sinian was so polite, considerate and well-mannered in private. Sun Tong was the same; it was as if everyone owed her money. He wondered what she was thinking.

After a moment's thought, Wang Kan squeezed past a few people, took the chair from Sun Tong, pointed to himself, and meant that he would take care of it.

Caught off guard by having her chair taken from her, Sun Tong turned around in surprise and glanced at Fang Minzhou. Fang Minzhou was also startled, and after a moment, she wondered to herself why Sun Tong was looking at her.

What does this have to do with her...?

When Fang Minzhou returned to the classroom, Wang Kan had already run away. Fang Minzhou slowly packed her schoolbag. When she left, only Lin Sinian, who was still packing his things, and Sun Tong, who had returned to studying, remained in the classroom.

Wang Kan now waits for her at the bottom of the stairs. The campus is mostly empty by now. He heads towards the bike shed and then takes her home first.

Wang Kan initially tried to say a few words, but a day passed and his voice hadn't improved much, so he had to give up. Fang Minzhou found this forced silence strange and funny, but if she really had to choose, it would be better to be able to talk; otherwise, when he rode behind her, she would always want to turn around and check on him.

It wasn't that I was afraid he would get lost, nor should anything unexpected happen; it was just a strange reaction that appeared out of nowhere.

Halfway through their ride, they stopped at a traffic light. Fang Minzhou, having made up her mind, said to Wang Kan, who was catching up, "You ride in front of me later."

Wang Kan looked puzzled, wanting to ask, but remained silent and simply nodded.

When the green light came on, Wang Kan glanced at her, rode off first, and after riding a short distance past the intersection, he looked back at Fang Minzhou and saw her suddenly smile.

Wang Kan stopped his bike, wondering if he had been tricked, while Fang Minzhou rode past him cheerfully, saying, "Let's go."

Wang Kan: "..."

He rode ahead of Fang Minzhou again, and when he looked back, Fang Minzhou was smiling again on the tree-lined road with its dappled shadows and dim lamplight. He frowned and pondered, unable to figure it out, and finally laughed along with her. He even deliberately rode faster, then stopped and looked back at her from a distance, repeating this process until they reached the overpass, both of them laughing so hard they could barely keep up.

With the cars parked side by side, Wang Kan turned to look at Fang Minzhou, still wanting to ask, "What are you laughing at?"

"What? I didn't hear you," Fang Minzhou said. "You'd better not say anything."

Wang Kan: "..."

Fang Minzhou looked closely at his lips; his mouth was lip-syncing to: laugh, what, ah.

"It's nothing," Fang Minzhou replied, because she didn't know either, and at this moment she also felt that she had just acted a little foolishly.

Wang Kan pursed her lips in disbelief.

Fang Minzhou looked at the red light indicating the countdown and asked, "Are you hungry?"

Wang Kan looked over again.

"...Shall I treat you to something to eat?" Fang Minzhou asked hesitantly.

She saw Wang Kan in the cafeteria today; he was sitting at the table diagonally in front of her. Perhaps because she found it hard to eat, even though she usually finished her plate, she barely touched her food. Thinking about how he had taken her home and she would have to ride back later, she figured he must be starving. "Is porridge okay?" she asked.

Wang Kan raised her eyebrows, looking at Fang Minzhou in disbelief, but nodded.

Fang Minzhou treated Wang Kan to a local congee restaurant that had been open for many years. After they sat down, she regretted it a little; it was too close to her apartment complex, and they might run into acquaintances. Luckily, there weren't many customers left, but… precisely because there weren't many, the two students in matching school uniforms sitting face-to-face were even more conspicuous.

Fang Minzhou didn't know if she was just being overly sensitive, but she always felt that the proprietress's eyes were particularly meaningful when she brought over the porridge.

She wouldn't recognize her, would she?

But all she did was treat her classmate to a late-night snack.

If anyone asks, Fang Minzhou has decided to say this.

Wang Kan rarely had the opportunity to dine with Fang Minzhou again. She had initially thought Fang Minzhou was a different person tonight, wondering how a love song could have such a powerful effect. But seeing how restrained Fang Minzhou was, she knew that Fang Minzhou was still herself.

He slowly blew on the porridge, thinking to himself, "It's just a meal, what's the big deal?"

After eating silently for a while, Fang Minzhou felt even more that eating porridge was a mistake. Because the porridge was very hot, she ate very slowly... She tried to eat faster and even burned her tongue.

When Fang Minzhou stuck out her tongue, Wang Kan saw it. Although he quickly lowered his eyes, a surge of heat still rushed to Fang Minzhou's face.

After finally finishing her meal, Wang Kan was covered in sweat. Whether it was intentional or because of a sore throat, she had only eaten a tiny bit.

While Wang Kan was pleased to be stared at by Fang Minzhou, she also felt a little embarrassed. She tilted her head back slightly and pointed to her throat with her left index finger.

The boy's prominent Adam's apple twitched slightly.

...Okay. Fang Minzhou thought to herself.

Wang Kan suddenly put down her spoon, took out an MP3 player from her bag, adjusted it, and handed it to Fang Minzhou.

The screen displayed the song he was supposed to sing tonight.

Fang Minzhou looked at him, hesitated for a few seconds, then took the headphones and put them on.

Just like Wang Kan said, even though it's sad music, it doesn't make you feel sad at all; it makes your ears feel hot.

After she finished listening to the song and also took another look at Wang Kan's playlist, he finally finished eating.

Just then, an elderly couple walking their little white dog passed by the porridge shop. Fang Minzhou vaguely heard them say "No. 1 Middle School," and her heart tightened. She quickly urged Wang Kan to go home.

Wang Kan had no choice but to ride away. When he reached the zebra crossing ahead, he turned back and waved to Fang Minzhou one last time.

Fang Minzhou was still standing at the store entrance. It was the first time she had seen Wang Kan's figure slowly shrink in the traffic. Thinking back, it seemed that he was always the one who saw her off before, and a feeling of unfamiliarity rose in her heart.

The moon in the sky was almost full, and everything for tonight was about to end. As her emotions subsided, Fang Minzhou couldn't help but feel a little melancholy, but she had to go home.

Countless moments when we want to grow up are moments when we crave freedom.

Knowing that there was an arts festival performance at school that evening, she came home a little later than usual. Her parents didn't say anything and asked her how the competition went. Fang Minzhou said that her class's choir came in second place. She then shared a few other things before returning to her bedroom.

Zhao Ningying pushed open the door and saw Fang Minzhou reading a book. She felt both relieved and sorry for him. She put the milk on the table and said, "Stop reading and take a rest."

"Okay," Fang Minzhou replied.

She couldn't actually drink any more milk, and she wasn't really studying while she was lying on the table.

Fang Minzhou felt guilty as she pulled out her phone from under her vocabulary book. She had really gone astray.

But... just for a moment, she told herself, as her mother had said, take a rest and she would study hard tomorrow.

Fang Minzhou entered QQ Space, where everyone's posts were recording the art festival. The first post was from Wang Kan, who posted two photos: one of a guitar in the corner of a room and one of moonlight, with the caption: April 13th.

The students below commented one after another.

Zheng Yanhang: What a pity!

Wang Kan replied: Not a pity, not a pity [smug face]

Zheng Yanhang: Brother Wang has such a great attitude! [Thumbs up]

Fang Minzhou zoomed in on the two photos and suddenly realized something was wrong. She drew back the curtains on the table, opened the window, and a gentle night breeze rushed in.

She repeatedly compared the real-life photos with the online ones and finally determined that Wang Kan's landscape photo was taken downstairs from her home. Although it only showed leaves and the moon, the spire of a building near her home was vaguely visible in the corner.

Fang Minzhou was speechless.

Scrolling down further, Zheng Yanhang actually posted their group photo!

Fang Minzhou covered her face tightly.

After a while, she put her hand down and opened her phone again. Ouyang Qian had already commented on Zheng Yanhang's post, so Fang Minzhou had no choice but to compromise and give both of them a like.
