Reunion

Reunion

"You're here again."

Xu An's hands were shaking as he handed over the lighter, which moved down a little.

"……What?"

Yu Xia kept his distance from him. He didn't seem to be bothered by this sudden appearance, as if he had known they would meet.

"You can't come." But Xu An still heard a trembling in Yu Xia's voice, "I'm almost well, you can't come."

Yu Xia muttered silently again, and Xu An seemed to feel that he was probably saying something like "can't come".

The boy who had been losing his composure when he saw Yu Xia finally realized that something was wrong with Yu Xia.

"What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell...?" However, Xu An didn't even dare to move. He looked at Yu Xia from a distance.

Yu Xia held the cigarette, his eyes always lowered.

"But you haven't been here for a long time." He was still a little confused. Xu An was a little confused about Yu Xia after drinking. "Don't come here anymore. I've made up my mind."

After that, Xu An knew what Yu Xia meant.

Because when Yu Xia walked over, he bumped into Xu An, as if he thought Xu An didn't exist at all. Maybe it was the same before, he walked straight through Xu An.

But this time, Yu Xia happened to meet someone.

He was so obviously stunned, his whole body was stiff. Yu Xia didn't know what to do or how to react.

He felt that he should run backwards, keep running, until Xu An could no longer see him and he could continue to sleep.

But he didn't.

Yu Xia pushed back suddenly and looked into Xu An's eyes, still looking unconvinced.

"Why can I..."

He lost his voice, but Xu An lost a piece of his heart.

"——What can I do?" Xu An's voice was hoarse.

"I ran into you."

The air was frozen without any human voices, leaving only the breathing of the two people.

Yu Xia was very sure that the person he had just touched had body temperature, unlike those shadows from three years ago who could only be seen but not touched.

His head still hurt more than last time.

Xu An moved quickly and caught Yu Xia as she was falling.

Yu Xia wanted to sit up.

His throat is so dry now, and if he doesn't get a bottle of water he will die on this bed.

wrong.

It took Yu Xia five seconds to confirm that the hand holding the broken glass in front of him was Xu An's.

"……Thanks."

"Yeah." Xu An didn't look at him. After Yu Xia took the water, he sat back in his previous seat.

Yu Xia noticed that he should be working, but he just saw that he woke up and casually handed him some water.

What the hell is this...

Yu Xia sat on the bed and pursed her lips slightly. The atmosphere in the room was too strange to ignore.

He took a quick look and found that Xu An hadn't changed much from before, at least he was the same person that Yu Xia remembered. The only difference was that Xu An no longer had the high-spirited feeling he had in high school, but instead had a calm and oppressive air.

Xu An seemed to be in a meeting, and there were always people in the video.

Yu Xia got out of bed and started looking for his things. He soon realized Xu An's house looked familiar. It was similar in layout to the rental house in Baihua Lane five years ago.

I don’t know if it’s a coincidence.

Yu Xia wanted to bypass Xu An and go straight to the door, but he heard the first words Xu An said since he woke up.

"Where are you going?"

The person reporting in the video thought Xu An was talking to him, so he stopped to listen more clearly, and then everyone heard Yu Xia's stuck reply.

"Return home."

"?" Xu An looked at the screen and gestured to continue. "Aren't you in China?"

"I... forgot." Yu Xia really forgot and his mind couldn't wrap around it.

Xu An nodded.

Yu Xia didn't know what to do. Should he explain himself? It seemed as if Xu An didn't care anymore. Maybe he'd already let it go and was just saving someone. Maybe he was already married with children but was looking for revenge for Yu Xia's betrayal?

Xu An typed a few words on the keyboard, turned off the computer and stood up.

"When did you come back?"

"Yesterday." Yu Xia looked at him, unsure of what to do.

"Because of what you said? The illness...is cured?" Xu An seemed to frown when he said "illness".

"Well, one last review."

"You...found the prescription."

No.

You are my best medicine.

"Yeah." Yu Xia nodded.

Xu An didn't respond. Just as Yu Xia was about to ask him if he could leave, he took the initiative to open the door.

"how are things."

He wanted to ask if you were doing well.

"It's fine, I..." Yu Xia subconsciously wanted to say more, but stopped midway.

Xu An didn't feel anything, so he nodded. "Let me take you there, you probably don't know the way."

Yu Xia agreed, and as if possessed by some strange force, he followed Xu An, walking behind him.

Xu An went downstairs and walked to the passenger seat, opening the door for Yu Xia. Yu Xia looked back at the layout of the community where Xu An lived.

This area should be the house on the inside. It is different from the small building that Yu Xia rented abroad. It is more obviously high-profile, Yu Xia thought as he closed the door.

Xu An put away his phone. Yu Xia thought he looked a little tired, with a hint of impatience between his eyebrows.

"Where are you going?"

Yu Xia seemed not to hear and stared blankly ahead.

Xu An stretched out his hand in front of him and raised his voice a little, "Where is your home?"

Yu Xia came back to her senses and looked at him subconsciously. The bad thing was that Xu An moved his face closer in order to reach out his hand. When they looked at each other, their faces were less than 20 centimeters apart.

"Fuck..." Yu Xia pushed back suddenly, mumbling a curse.

Xu An drove according to the location on Yu Xia's phone. The person in the passenger seat was drunk and in a deep sleep yesterday, and now he was trying to catch up on his sleep.

Xu An stopped at a traffic light. The heater made him feel a little dizzy.

The vibration of his cell phone gave Xu An a chance to catch his breath. He lifted his hair to read the message.

It seems that Zhou Yanxu has finally woken up.

Xu An: I saw Yu Xia.

Xu An: Do you have his contact information?

Xu An: Dead asleep?

Xu An: He is with me. My aunt came to ask me about him.

This is the message Zhou Yanxu didn’t reply to after he fell asleep yesterday.

Zhou: Who did you meet?

Zhou: Am I blind or did you make a typo?

Zhou: It’s over. Auntie called me yesterday but I didn’t answer!!!

Zhou: Xu An? Not awake yet?

Xu An moved his fingers and replied.

just

Xu An: I got it. I’m sending it to you.

Zhou Yanxu on the opposite side: "Ah, okay. I'm sending someone off..."

After a few seconds: "No??? Who the hell are you sending?"

Zhou: You and Yu Xia are together?

Xu An: Yeah.

Zhou: He didn’t beat you to death?

Xu An's question mark was still in the input box and had not been sent out, but Ms. Liao Shengnan's message came first.

Xu An thought about it and clicked another line.

Xu An: Have you told your aunt?

Zhou: She called me seven times!

Xu An exited the chat interface without saying a word.

The light had turned green, Xu An put down his phone and drove to the gate of the community where Yu Xia had located it.

He didn't wake up Yu Xia, but leaned back in his chair and sent WeChat messages.

The streets were empty in the early morning, with only the street lights dutifully on, casting a long, lonely shadow of their car on the ground.

There were two people in the car, and one of them was extremely nervous, a rare feeling in recent years.

Xu An: He is with me, auntie.

Ginkgo: Okay, message him back.

Xu An: A little later, he went to sleep.

Ginkgo:? Zhou Yanxu said you sent him back.

Xu An: “…”

Pig teammate.

Xu An: Yes, I fell asleep in the car.

Ginkgo: Yeah.

Xu An wanted to post something, but when he just found Ms. Liao Shengnan’s WeChat ID, their chat history was still five years ago.

But fortunately, Ms. Liao Shengnan spoke before him.

Ginkgo: Have you guys made up?

Xu An: “…”

Forget it, Zhou Yanxu is actually quite good.

Xu An: No.

Ginkgo: Did he say anything to you?

Ginkgo: It happened abroad.

Xu An: No.

He said nothing.

There was nothing, as if these five years were empty.

ginkgo:……

Ginkgo: Thank you.

Xu An: It’s okay.

Ginkgo: How have you been lately?

Xu An: Very good, thank you.

This seemed like the simplest greeting, but Xu An felt it was more tiring than his daily communication.

Ginkgo: That’s good.

Xu An frowned as he looked at the line of words. Before he could send the words he had typed, he received another one.

Ginkgo: I'm sorry.

Xu An looked up at Yu Xia's sleeping face and waited for a long time.

Xu An: Why did he say he had seen me?

Xu An: Yesterday, he said I was here again.

It took Ms. Liao Shengnan a long time to respond.

Ginkgo: He saw you many times three years ago.

What does that mean? Xu An had a bad feeling.

Ginkgo: Five years ago, you were 17 years old. He had been seeing you for two years. His condition worsened, but then, for some unknown reason, you disappeared and he began to recover.

Ginkgo: I can’t leave and I don’t know.

Ginkgo: His hallucinations cleared up, and he became normal again.

Xu An: That’s good.

It’s best if you don’t have any interference from yourself.

Ginkgo: I'm sorry, as a not very competent mother, I don't think he has recovered.

Ginkgo: I saw him during the time he was with you, and I always felt that he had changed.

Ginkgo: He talks a lot, makes jokes, secretly buys snacks that he doesn’t usually eat, and tells me gossip about so-and-so at school.

Ginkgo: Every time I see Xiao Yu now, I feel that I am wrong again.

Xu An: No.

Xu An: Thank you.

Xu An's fingers pressing the screen were abnormally white.

He felt his breathing become heavier, and subconsciously turned to look out the window. The night had already thickened, the streetlights slicing the silent row of camphor trees along the residential wall into a patchwork of light and dark. The light and shadows slanted across the car window, like old scars that would never heal. He quickly averted his gaze and tossed his phone onto the console.

The phone made a crisp sound as it hit the plastic. The person in the passenger seat moved and closed his eyes.

Yu Xia fumbled with the seatbelt, the world outside the car window blurring through his half-closed eyes. Suddenly, he felt a shadow pressing down on him, prompting him to open his eyes as if for mercy.

Yu Xia: “…”

Xu An seemed to be completely unaware of the weird atmosphere. After helping him fasten his seat belt, he kissed him on the lips.

"What are you doing?" Yu Xia's words were unclear, and only Xu An, who was closest to him, knew the answer.

He said, "I want the fare."
