Liu Xinqi and Li Li hid outside the main hall, observing the extremely critical and unfavorable situation inside.
"Di Jingcheng is indeed scheming."
Li Li sighed silently. He had always known that Di Jingcheng was no ordinary person.
"How about we call it a day?"
Upon hearing this, Liu Xinqi felt a surge of disgust; what a cowardly and incompetent man. He remained silent, then quietly slipped behind the Hall of Supreme Harmony, arriving behind Emperor Jingcheng and his entourage, where he was naturally discovered.
He didn't intend to confront them head-on, so he quickly released three hidden weapons and disappeared into the night.
The three hidden weapons were exquisitely crafted and small. One struck the Imperial Guard, one flew towards Emperor Jingcheng, and the third was aimed at Azi. Upon hearing the faint sound, Emperor Jingcheng shielded Azi behind him, intending to take the brunt of two of the hidden weapons himself.
Azi was terrified, but she was held tightly in the man's arms and had no idea what was happening outside. She heard the sound of a sharp object piercing flesh, and Azi jumped in fright, thinking that Dijing had been injured.
She struggled to expose her head, only to find Di Jingyuan, whom she always disliked being near, lying in front of her. The pain Di Jingcheng had anticipated didn't strike him. He and Azi turned around, only to be met with this pitiful scene.
These hidden weapons were so concealed and fast that they were almost impossible for an ordinary person to detect, let alone withstand. Several assassins escaped, several survived, and many corpses lay strewn across the hall.
Di Jingcheng and Azi watched as Di Jingyuan collapsed before their eyes, and Zheng He and the others frantically called for the imperial physician. Azi was already stunned with fright, clinging tightly to Di Jingcheng, not knowing what to think, when suddenly she felt a sharp pain in her stomach.
Di Jingcheng was brought back to his senses by Azi's commotion, and he picked her up and carried her out of the main hall. Di Jinghan, as the most noble person here, also displayed the majesty of a princess, and calmly directed the palace servants.
Emperor Jingyuan was sent back for treatment, while Azi was sent back to the nearest Qianzheng Hall by Emperor Jingcheng. The imperial physicians treated her in two groups.
Azi was in so much pain she didn't know what to do, and she was bleeding profusely from her body. Di Jingcheng was utterly terrified; even though he was confident of victory, he couldn't guard against a sneak attack.
After a busy night, Azi's bleeding stopped, and she didn't go into premature labor. However, she was so weak that she had to stay in bed and take good care of herself.
Di Jingcheng stayed by the bedside without leaving for a moment, while Azi stared blankly at the top of the tent with her big eyes, recalling the scene of Di Jingyuan falling down.
Di Jingcheng thought she was terribly frightened, so he held her and gently comforted her.
"What is Azi thinking about?"
Azi swallowed hard, her gaze falling on the man. She relaxed slightly, though her pupils remained unfocused: "Prince Yuan, how... is he?"
Di Jingcheng smiled gently: "Don't worry, my darling, Prince Yuan has profound internal energy protecting him, those hidden weapons can't hurt him."
Azi turned her head slightly, staring intently into his dark eyes, trying to confirm if he was lying: "Really?"
Di Jingcheng nodded firmly: "When the baby was unconscious, the imperial physician came to report that he was out of danger, but he needed to rest for a while."
"That's good, that's good..." Azi murmured softly. If Prince Yuan died because of her and her husband, she would feel guilty for the rest of her life.
Di Jingcheng gently rubbed her head: "Alright, don't tire yourself out, rest first, okay?"
Azi felt much more at ease and rubbed against the man's hand, saying, "I'm hungry."
The man quickly summoned someone to bring her nutritious and delicious food, attentively serving her her meal, coaxing her to take her medicine, and then holding her as she fell asleep. In the middle of the night, when Azi was already fast asleep, Di Jingcheng quietly got up and went out.
Upon arriving at Emperor Jingyuan's palace, Emperor Jinghan was anxiously speaking to the imperial physician. Seeing the emperor approach, everyone hurried forward.
"Brother!"
"Greetings, Your Majesty!"
"Rise, how is Prince Yuan?" He walked anxiously toward the inner hall, followed by a group of people.
"Your Majesty, those two hidden weapons are poisoned, and Prince Yuan's life is now in imminent danger. We are trying to find a way to detoxify the prince." Imperial Physician Li's face was full of grief, and the mood of the other imperial physicians was also not good.
Di Jinghan stood beside Di Jingyuan's bed, watching Fuzi wipe his sweat, her eyes red and swollen.
Di Jingcheng pressed his lips together, deeply saddened that Jingyuan would sacrifice himself to save Azi. He also felt great heartache for his own brother: "Is there a way to find an antidote?"
"Your Majesty, this poison is the famous red poison of Beixiang. It requires Tian Shan snow lotus as medicine, and..." Physician Li hesitated.
"And what? Just tell me!" Di Jinghan stamped his foot impatiently. "You're always dawdling!"
"Only by using the blood and flesh of one's own relatives and loved ones in the medicine can the poison be neutralized." After saying this, Physician Li was already covered in sweat. How could he possibly dare to ask the Emperor and Princess to cut off their own flesh and bleed them?
"Nonsense!" Di Jinghan thought it was utterly absurd.
"Please calm down, Your Highness. We dare not speak recklessly."
Looking at the pale-faced, unconscious Di Jingyuan, Di Jingcheng felt a pang of sorrow. He would have readily sacrificed his own flesh to save him, but Jingyuan's beloved… he couldn't bear to hurt Azi.
"The imperial physician said that, apart from blood relatives and flesh and blood being used in the medicine, what if the other ingredient is not a beloved person?"
"Your Majesty, this method is ineffective and will not have any additional effects. Your Majesty can rest assured."
Di Jingcheng nodded: "The Prince Yuan's beloved needs some time. How long can he hold on?"
"Your Majesty, three days. If the medicine is not administered within three days, Prince Yuan will surely die."
"I understand. You all stay here and take good care of the Prince." Emperor Jingcheng got up and left, his face looking very unwell. Everyone assumed it was because he was worried about the Empress and the Prince.
