Chapter 24 Clashing Gazes, Consort Xian's Hostility

The two were enjoying pastries together when the distraught Consort Xian wandered over and saw a group of palace servants gathered around a pavilion in the center of the Imperial Garden. However, the view inside the pavilion was obscured by a screen, so the people inside could not be seen.

She assumed the women in the harem were playing mind games, so she tried to take a detour, but before she knew it, she saw Zheng San emerge from the pavilion.

Then the person in the pavilion must be the emperor, and so she abruptly stopped her toes as she turned.

The person who caused her so much pain is in the pavilion, but what about the woman? Did he bring his beloved woman into the palace?

She couldn't help but walk over there, but dared not get too close, so she quietly walked along the edge of the path to find out what was going on.

She made very little noise, and the palace servants, who were focused on their masters in the pavilion, didn't even realize she was nearby.

Two male bodyguards arranged by Emperor Jingcheng were guarding the Qian Yuan Hall. Qinghe followed along, and with her abilities, she had already sensed that someone was nearby.

Judging from the voice, she was probably just a woman with no strength to even kill a chicken, perhaps a concubine or maid passing by. So she didn't make a sound, but silently observed her surroundings.

Qinghe stood on the left side of the pavilion, where she could see the scene behind Di Jingcheng and Azi. That was where Consort Xian was near, but she was hiding behind a dense willow tree. Her upper body was covered by the willow branches, and her lower body was covered by the thick trunk, with only a small, barely noticeable glimpse of her skirt.

She stared blankly at the pavilion, where the couple were deeply in love. She had already witnessed the man's gentle and tender side in the past two days, but today it was even more so, as he played and joked with the woman.

The woman was charming and lovely, and he kept teasing her, making her snuggle into his arms. The two were deeply in love, a sight to behold.

The wind was strong, and amidst the swaying willow branches, Qinghe could clearly see her, including the complex expression on her face—a mixture of liking, pain, jealousy, and indifference… Qinghe didn't know how to describe it, but she knew that if that person dared to do anything, she would make sure she couldn't resist.

Di Jingcheng had long since lost all wariness in front of A Zi, his mind completely focused on the little girl in his arms.

Azi shyly snuggled into his arms, burying her face in his chest. She lifted her head, resting her pretty chin on his shoulder as she whispered something to him. The man played along, but after she finished speaking, he suddenly stopped moving.

He gently patted the little girl's head, then turned to look at her and asked, "What's wrong, baby?"

The little girl's beautiful eyes were filled with astonishment and confusion. Her mouth was slightly open, and her small hands were tightly gripping his shoulders. The man followed her gaze and saw the Consort Xian looking over.

Consort Xian was so engrossed in gazing at Ranla Azi that she momentarily forgot to react. It felt like a rival meeting, with eyes blazing with jealousy. However, she felt no resentment towards the person in front of her and was amazed by the purity in her eyes.

Compared to her, his own eyes seemed to hold a greater sense of desire.

At that moment, Emperor Jingcheng's gaze fell upon her, and Consort Xian felt a chilling aura emanating from him, as if the frigid Imperial Garden were nothing more than that. She had no way to escape now!

She retreated repeatedly, her eyes filled with fear, until she had nowhere left to go and her back pressed against the hard, cold artificial mountain, her body trembling slightly.

She really wanted to run, but her legs felt like they were made of lead, so heavy that they couldn't be heavier anymore. These few steps back had exhausted all her strength.

Now that she was fully awake, she wondered how the emperor would deal with her.

Will he be dragged away and beaten to death like in a palace drama, with his entire family also implicated? Or will his beloved torture him to death? Or, or, or…

Consort Xian is now extremely nervous and frightened, and has long forgotten the purpose of this trip. She has not found Yilan and may even lose her life!

Lost in her thoughts, she sensed several people approaching her. Suddenly, she looked up and cold sweat poured down her back, soaking his clothes.

Zheng He and Qinghe, accompanied by four eunuchs, approached and stood before her: "Your Highness, the Emperor requests your presence."

These words struck her like a thunderbolt, and Consort Xian felt that her death was not far off!

She now deeply regretted her foolishness in falling for a feudal emperor; why did she have to be so reckless! She knew she was wrong, but her life was more important!

Zheng He and Qinghe saw that she was not moving. They glanced at the eunuch behind her and saw that Consort Xian had been taken away by the eunuch.

In the pavilion, Di Jingcheng withdrew his gaze and looked at the little girl in his arms, who looked sullen and had long lost her previous liveliness and shyness. Her little hands were also hanging limply.

He calmly took the little girl's hand and gently stroked it: "Azi, did she scare you?"

Azi didn't say anything. She nestled her face into the man's arms, indicating that she didn't want to talk to him.

Di Jingcheng patiently coaxed, "Baby, what's wrong? I don't know that woman well, I don't even remember her name."

"Don't be afraid, don't be afraid, I'm here with you! That woman scared my darling, I'll punish her properly later."

"Honey, will you talk to me?"

Azi felt comforted by his gentle coaxing. She wasn't angry, but the woman's gaze gave her a very uncomfortable feeling, as if she had a grudge against her?

When Emperor Jingcheng was coaxing people, Consort Xian was also brought over and waited outside the pavilion.

"Bring her here." Di Jingcheng said calmly, one large hand tightly around A Zi's slender waist, the other gently stroking the back of her sullen head.

During the time Consort Xian was brought here, she adjusted her mindset a bit, thinking, "Let me die! If I survive this time, I never want to like anyone again, because my life is more important!"

She cursed inwardly, "Has my brain been eaten by zombies these past few months after I read so many books?"

So, when Consort Xian entered the pavilion, she knelt down firmly before Emperor Jingcheng and Azi with a "plop": "Your Majesty, I pay my respects! I have disturbed Your Majesty and Consort Azi, please forgive me!"

Emperor Jingcheng didn't feel much about it. After all, Consort Xian had always been loud and boisterous. After falling into the water, she suffered a brain injury and became quiet for a while. Later, Zheng He'er told him that she came to deliver things to him every day. She then caused all sorts of trouble in the Imperial Garden and even followed him outside the palace.

He had just finished dealing with the Empress and was thinking about Azi, so he didn't pay much attention to her.

Anyway, Consort Xian will be dealt with. In her previous life, she was also the murderer of Azi. But it wouldn't hurt to torture her for now.

Thinking this, Di Jingcheng shifted his gaze from the little girl in his arms to the kneeling Consort Xian, his eyes filled with intense hatred.

Even the palace servants nearby felt the emperor's aura suddenly turn cold, presumably because of the virtuous concubine kneeling on the ground, constantly begging for forgiveness.
