The news of Consort Xian's demotion spread throughout the palace that very night. When Consort Shu received the news, she slightly curled the corners of her mouth. How come Consort Xian had already lost her composure before she even had a chance to make a move?
Consort Xian, no, I should say Consort Mu. After fainting yesterday evening, she was brought back to Chaoxia Palace by Yilan. She caught a chill and was frightened in the Imperial Garden, and developed a low-grade fever in the middle of the night. Yilan gave her medicine and she felt much better.
As dawn broke, still half-asleep, she vaguely heard a commotion outside. She raised her hand to rub her temples and asked, "What's going on? Yilan, Yilan?"
Yilan was packing her things outside. Since her rank was that of a concubine, she didn't have many servants. She could only leave two maids and one eunuch behind.
However, apart from Yilan, no one else was willing to continue serving Mu Wanyu, so Yilan started arguing with everyone.
Despite having served as a head palace maid for so many years, Yilan still exuded a strong aura. Standing on the steps, she looked at a group of resentful palace servants and said, "Her Majesty has always treated you well, but now you all want to run away."
"I'm making this clear today: if you want to come back in the future, you'll never have the chance. And if anyone bullies you, Her Majesty will no longer protect you. If you want to get out, then get out now!"
Yilan's face turned red with anger. She looked down at the palace servants below, who were looking at each other with their heads down. Several of them were already preparing to leave.
At this moment, Mu Wanyu stumbled out, her voice still somewhat weak: "What's going on? What kind of behavior is this, making such a racket here? It's giving me a headache!"
Hearing the voice, the palace servants and Yilan who had not yet left immediately knelt down and bowed, saying, "Greetings, Your Highness."
Yilan hurriedly stepped forward to support her: "My lady, are you alright? Are you feeling any better?"
Upon hearing the words "Your Highness," Mu Wanyu flew into a rage: "How dare you! I am Consort Xian, one of the four consorts personally appointed by the Emperor. I am Your Highness, Consort Xian! How dare you insult me like this!"
The palace maids below were startled, but remembering that she had already been abandoned by the emperor, they were not so afraid anymore and crouched down, trying to leave the place.
I thought this guy had suffered a brain injury from falling into the water and had become much more mild-mannered, but I didn't expect him to become so irritable again. For the sake of my own life, it's best to leave as soon as possible.
Yilan was also yelled at and couldn't speak, so she stood to the side with her head down.
Seeing that all the palace servants had run away, Mu Wanyu was so angry that she had a headache: "You lowly maids, all of you come back here! Ah! Yilan, what exactly is going on?"
The empty courtyard was rather desolate, and Yilan felt that this winter seemed even colder. She dared not look up and said timidly, "Your Highness, yesterday, the Emperor demoted you, and now... now, you are a concubine."
After Yilan finished speaking, she closed her eyes, feeling both scared and heartbroken. It seemed as if her unpredictable master from before had returned.
Mu Wanyu stared wide-eyed in disbelief, grabbed Yilan's shoulders, and forced her to look up: "What did you say? You lied to me! You dared to lie to me! Even you are going to betray me?"
At this moment, Mu Wanyu had gone into a frenzy. Yilan's face was contorted with pain as she was shaken, her shoulder probably scratched raw: "Master, Master, calm down, worry about your health!"
Mu Wanyu shook her head frantically; her head hurt terribly! She collapsed to the ground, clutching her hair tightly, feeling like her head was about to explode!
Why is someone inside her body stealing her consciousness? She just returned and learned that she had been demoted and still can't fully control her body. She feels like she's going crazy!
Yilan noticed something was wrong with her, but dared not approach, fearing she might upset her further. Seeing Mu Wanyu's agonizing state, her face streaked with tears and her hair disheveled, she cautiously asked, "Master, shall I help you inside to rest?"
Mu Wanyu was so absorbed in her own thoughts that she couldn't hear what she was saying. She slowly lay down on the ground, her chest heaving rapidly, her eyes glazed over as she stared at the vermilion eaves, muttering something under her breath.
Yilan climbed forward cautiously, approaching her: "Master, are you alright? Please don't frighten me." Her voice trembled with fear, worry, and helplessness.
Just as Yilan half-embraced the person, the head of the Imperial Household Department arrived with his men.
"What are you doing?" Yilan asked warily, holding the unconscious person in her arms who was still muttering to himself.
"Consort Mu is moving to a new palace today. I'll bring people over to make the arrangements."
"Our young mistress is still ill. Could you please make an exception for a few days, sir?" Yilan pleaded.
The father-in-law smiled slightly: "Miss, our family can't make that decision. After all, it's the Emperor's decree."
Just as Yilan was about to speak, Mu Wanyu, who had been rambling incoherently, suddenly sat up with a start, her eyes bloodshot as she glared at the head eunuch in front of her, her voice filled with a roar: "This is not your place to speak! I'm going to see the Emperor! I'm going to have the Emperor punish you!"
As Mu Wanyu spoke, she pushed Yilan aside and stumbled outwards. In her frenzied state, she was unstoppable and ran directly out of Chaoxia Palace towards Qianyuan Palace.
Ignoring the injury on her hand, Yilan got up from the ground: "Master, Master!"
Mu Wanyu stumbled and fell several times on the palace path, sustaining several wounds, but she stubbornly got up again and ran forward, her eyes filled with unwavering determination. She couldn't believe the Emperor could be so heartless; she simply couldn't believe it!
Yilan chased after her, but couldn't catch up at all.
After a bumpy half-hour run, Mu Wanyu finally arrived at the gate of Qian Yuan Palace. Looking at the magnificent gate, hope rose in her heart. There were two guards at the gate and two eunuchs inside; it would be difficult for her to get in.
Just when she was at her wit's end and tried to force her way in, she was dragged behind the palace wall.
Mu Wanyu flung the man's hand away: "What do you want to do!"
