When Di Jinghan heard that his sister-in-law was sick, he was extremely worried. Seeing the imperial physician busy inside all morning, and Qinghe even bringing out a lot of bloody fluid, he was almost scared to death.
She grabbed Qinghe's hand and stared wide-eyed: "Qinghe, is my sister-in-law alright?"
"Princess, rest assured, Her Majesty is just having her period, it's nothing serious."
Upon hearing this, Di Jinghan felt relieved and his expression relaxed considerably.
"Ning Hui, since your sister-in-law isn't feeling well, let's go first." Di Jinghan planned to go out and wander around by herself. After all, she had come all this way, so she wanted to try some other delicious food and have some fun.
All day long, Di Jingcheng stayed with Azi in her room, coaxing his little darling to eat and take her medicine. Di Jinghan played wildly until nightfall before returning, bringing back a lot of snacks.
Looking at the food that Di Jinghan had brought, A Zi, who had been feeling unwell all day and had little appetite, found the aroma of these snacks quite appealing.
She sat in Di Jingcheng's lap and ate with relish. Di Jingcheng was pleased to see this and silently praised his younger sister, thinking that she was still somewhat useful.
Palace servants came and went in the villa. In the front courtyard of the main house where Emperor Jingcheng and Azi lived, the palace servants stood respectfully to one side, waiting for instructions. The snow in Meizhou had almost melted, and the melted water dripped slowly from the branches onto the ground, splashing out in beautiful arcs.
Cheng Yi and Sun, the leader of the patrolling imperial guards, exchanged a few words at the entrance of the courtyard. Cheng Er sat on the wall, tasting the pastries bestowed by the princess, his eyes narrowed, his expression full of enjoyment.
The sound of "whoosh whoosh whoosh" came from the air, breaking the peace of the night.
Cheng Yi and Chief Sun's expressions became even more serious. The two of them rose into the air and used their unsheathed blades to block the arrows hidden in the night.
"Protect the Emperor!" Commander Sun shouted, and all the Imperial Guards protected Emperor Jingcheng and Azi. Cheng Er jumped down from the wall, holding an arrow in one hand and the leftover pastries in the other.
"Cheng Er." Cheng Yi's voice had barely left his lips when more arrows flew over, this time not three, but a volley of ten thousand.
The group immediately joined the battle, deflecting all the arrows. If the first three arrows were a test, this next one was clearly intended to kill.
Inside the house, upon hearing the noise outside, Di Jingcheng immediately hugged Azi tightly in his arms: "Baby, don't be afraid, I'm here." His sharp eagle eyes warily scanned the surroundings, and Zheng He'er, Zheng San, and Qinghe were already protecting the two of them.
Before Azi could even swallow the food in her mouth, she was startled by the sudden noise. She forgot to chew and instinctively swallowed. Her little hands clenched the half-eaten pastry, and she hid fearfully in Di Jingcheng's arms.
"Don't be afraid, don't be afraid..." Di Jingcheng comforted her again and again.
"By the way, is Di Jinghan alright?" Di Jingcheng shouted towards the outside, "Cheng Yi!"
The arrows increased in number, as if they were determined to keep going, but they handled them with ease. Their opponents wanted to force them to reveal their true strength, which was why they refused to show themselves.
Upon hearing the emperor's voice, both master and servant immediately thought of Di Jinghan.
"Your Majesty, please rest assured." Cheng Yi flew away, leaving Cheng Er and the Imperial Guards to fend off the arrows in the darkness.
Meanwhile, Di Jinghan was taking a leisurely stroll in the courtyard to digest her food, chatting with Ning Hui and several palace maids, and planning their upcoming itinerary.
Suddenly, an arrow flew towards her. A guard appeared in the darkness, grabbing the arrow in one hand: "Princess, quickly hide!"
Di Jinghan was startled, but quickly realized what was happening and hurriedly led the palace servants to hide inside. When Cheng Yi arrived, he saw two guards fighting with two assassins in the courtyard.
"Alive!" Cheng Yi's eyes were filled with icy coldness. Just who dared to be so insolent!
Dongyang, Beixiang, Nanling, or perhaps Mu Wanyu, or even someone from the imperial court. Seeing the fight raging on, Cheng Yi leaped forward, and taking the two by surprise, swiftly kicked them both to the ground. Two guards rushed forward, gagged them, and pinned their hands to the ground with their arms tied behind their backs.
Di Jinghan, accompanied by his palace servants, saw them subdue the assassins through the window and ran out excitedly, clapping enthusiastically: "Cheng Yi is great! You guys are great too!"
“Princess, His Majesty has ordered me to take you there; it is not safe here.”
——
On Di Jingcheng and A Zi's side, after Cheng Yi left, the number of arrows gradually decreased, eventually leaving only a courtyard full of broken arrows. Chief Sun and Cheng Er exchanged a glance, realizing that their opponent was quite cunning.
"Stand on high alert!" Leader Sun shouted to the Imperial Guards after taking a couple of light breaths.
"yes!"
Di Jingcheng walked out with Azi in his arms, frowning as he looked at the busy crowd.
"Your Majesty, the assassin has not shown himself." Cheng Er and Chief Sun stepped forward.
"Here!" Cheng Yi followed Di Jinghan in, and two guards escorted two masked assassins in black forward.
Cheng Er stepped forward and kicked each of the two assassins: "Speak quickly, who sent you!"
The two looked at each other with their heads down, and finally lowered their heads without saying a word.
"Take the arrow from his back." Di Jingcheng's shrewd eyes shot towards the arrow on the assassin's back.
Cheng Er bent down and drew an arrow, rubbed it in his hand for a moment, and examined it carefully. It seemed to be different from the arrows here. He quickly presented the arrow: "Your Majesty, it seems there are two groups of people."
"Good. Take these two away and interrogate them thoroughly. Make sure you get an answer before dawn tomorrow." Di Jingcheng tossed the arrow back into Cheng'er's hands, his tone relaxed.
"Your Majesty, rest assured." Cheng Yi waved his hand, and two guards immediately took the assassin away.
Di Jinghan ran forward and stood next to Azi. He saw her looking at the scene with her bright almond-shaped eyes, her mouth slightly open, not saying a word. She was incredibly cute.
