The moment Azi pushed open the door, all she saw was blood red as she watched her beloved man fall to the ground.
Cheng Yi caught him almost as soon as Yi Meng finished lashing him with his whip, his face full of sorrow and tears streaming down his face. A Zi staggered in, her vision blurred by tears, almost causing her to fall.
Qinghe rushed forward to support her, but at that moment, all she could see was the injured and unconscious Di Jingcheng. She ignored Qinghe and ran over to him, completely disregarding her own pregnancy.
"Your Majesty, be careful!" Qinghe couldn't bear it and turned her eyes away, covering her mouth and sobbing softly.
As if her knees had lost all feeling, Azi fell heavily to her knees beside Di Jingcheng and pulled him into her arms from Cheng Yi's embrace.
Her small hands trembled as she touched his weathered and tired face. She looked at him, who was usually strong and tall, now so vulnerable and helpless. She didn't know how to touch him, afraid of hurting him.
"Ah Cheng, Ah Cheng, you must hold on! You can't leave me!" Ah Zi's tears fell on Di Jingcheng, mingling with his blood and spreading across his ruined moon-white brocade robe, creating a tragic yet magnificent scene.
"Chengyi, take him back for me! Hurry!"
Cheng Yi quickly picked up Di Jingcheng and carried him outside. Ignoring the stares of the crowd, Yi Meng hurriedly followed.
With tears in her eyes, Azi looked at her father and mother, then at the elders present, and finally turned her gaze to her grandfather.
"Father, Mother, Grandfather, Elders, are you all satisfied with him now?!"
Ah Zi screamed in anguish, her beautiful face filled with unbearable sorrow.
"Azi, don't worry. Yimeng didn't use his full strength; he won't kill him," Nalan Mingzhu comforted her daughter, seeing her in such pain.
Ranlayob looked at the elders, his eyes softening: "Azi, as long as he can wake up, we will accept him as our own."
Azi nodded excitedly, then grabbed her grandfather and ran out, saying, "Grandpa, you must save him!"
The old man let Azi pull him along as they ran. Luckily, he was still strong and healthy, otherwise he probably wouldn't have been able to withstand the exertion.
Yimeng led the group to the small attic where they had stayed when they rescued Di Jingcheng, which was very close to Azi's room. Di Jingcheng was completely unconscious. Chengyi and Yimeng carefully placed him on the bed, but because his injuries were all on his back, they could only have him do push-ups.
Yimeng took Qinghe to the kitchen and boiled water. While she was busy, she explained to her how to use the things here, so that it would be more convenient for her in the future.
When Azi dragged her grandfather back, Qinghe came out of the kitchen on the second floor with hot water, and the three of them bumped into each other.
Azi grabbed Qinghe's wrist; if Qinghe hadn't been strong, the hot water in her hand would have already fallen to the ground.
"Your Majesty, please don't worry, the Emperor is in the small pavilion."
Yi Meng and Cheng Yi were carefully helping Di Jingcheng remove his blood-stained clothes; his back was a bloody mess. Fortunately, the injury hadn't been recent, and the clothes hadn't yet stuck to his skin.
Cheng Yi glared at Yi Meng with eyes full of resentment: "Hmph, you beat our Emperor like this!"
Knowing he was in the wrong, Yimeng remained silent for a long while before finally managing to squeeze out an "I'm sorry." It wasn't really Yimeng's fault; after all, he couldn't disobey the clan leader and the elder's orders—he himself had been beaten before!
However, Cheng Yi had received Emperor Jingcheng's favor since childhood, and they were more than family. Seeing him suffer such injustice and torment, he couldn't help but blame him.
"And your clan leader and elders, they are truly vicious."
"Actually, our clan leader also suffered like this in order to marry a woman from the Central Plains." Yi Meng sighed and looked at the unconscious Di Jingcheng. Fortunately, he was in good health, otherwise he would have died long ago.
Upon hearing this, Cheng Yi fell silent.
The other three rushed over in a panic, and the old man quickly went forward to examine his injuries.
Azi took the warm handkerchief from Qinghe and gently wiped the dirt from the edges of his wound. Her eyes were full of heartache, and tears kept falling.
"Grandpa, how is he?"
The old man first checked the boy's eyelids, then his pulse and heart. The boy was in good health. The wound hadn't hit any vital organs, so he breathed a sigh of relief. Thank goodness.
"Yimeng, go and get my medicine box."
Yimeng turned and ran towards the door; he was now carrying the weight of a life on his shoulders!
Under Azi's expectant gaze, the old man patted her shoulder and gently wiped away the tears on her cheeks: "My dear granddaughter, don't worry, he won't die. It's just that it takes a hundred days to recover from a broken bone, so he'll probably need to rest for quite a while."
Azi's eyes followed her grandfather, and she was only slightly relieved when she heard that Di Jingcheng was alright.
The old man gently stroked his white beard and chuckled, "Our Azi can heal and save lives herself, but she's really panicking and has no choice but to run away."
"It's good that Cheng is alright, thank you, Grandpa!" Azi kept her eyes fixed on the person on the bed, gently wiping his wounds, her emotions gradually calming down. She took the medicine box that Yimeng brought, personally applied the medicine, and then bandaged his wounds.
After bandaging his wounds, Azi felt completely exhausted, and fine beads of sweat appeared on her forehead. Looking at Di Jingcheng covered in snow-white gauze, her nose tingled with emotion.
"Brother Yimeng, could you please cook some plain porridge? I'm afraid he might suddenly wake up..." Azi's eyes were full of pleading.
Yi Meng smiled slightly: "A Zi, don't be so polite, I'll go right away."
Yi Meng stepped out the door, and Cheng Yi stood at the entrance. A gentle breeze caressed him, lifting his black robes and hair, and his tall figure exuded a sense of desolation.
Yimeng slowly walked to his side and stood still. Looking down, she saw the backyard of Azi's house, where many precious medicinal herbs and flowers were planted. Further away, she could see Azi's grandfather's pharmacy, which was also the elegant and distinctive wooden house where he usually lived.
