At the village entrance, Di Jinghan was taken aback by the menacing villagers before her. As a royal princess, she had never faced such rude treatment. These were truly country bumpkins; her sister-in-law was nothing like them.
Prefect Liu tried to communicate with Di Jinghan, asking him to wait a moment, but the tribespeople couldn't understand what he was saying at all. They only knew that he had brought many people and posed a threat to their homes. The people looked at each other, full of doubt, but they refused to back down.
Prefect Liu was already sweating profusely. He was also unable to communicate with these people. He should have brought his advisor with him, so that they could exchange information!
Just as the two sides were about to fight, Ranlayob arrived with three elders.
The villagers quickly made way for him. Ranlayob listened to the young men explain the situation, and his gaze towards Prefect Liu and his entourage held a hint of hostility. What did this mean? Were they coming to attack their village with troops? The emperor only had so many people protecting him; thankfully, no one had harmed him.
"Who are you people?" Ranlayob asked in Chinese.
Magistrate Liu smiled, wiping the sweat from his brow with his sleeve. Thank goodness! Thank goodness! We can still communicate.
He stepped forward and said politely, "This must be the clan chief. I am the Prefect of Nanzhou." Prefect Liu dared not put on airs at all, after all, the person in front of him was not a person who had been baptized by the laws of the Central Plains, and clan concepts were more convincing here.
Ranlayobu nodded slightly. He had heard of Prefect Liu. After all, they were under the rule of the Xijing Dynasty, and as a tribal leader, he needed to understand basic politics.
He nodded slightly in return: "May I ask what brings Prefect Liu to make such a large mobilization?"
Di Jinghan, supporting Ning Hui's hand, stepped forward and smiled, "Clan leader, I've come to find my brother and sister-in-law. My sister-in-law is from here, and we really had no intention of offending you."
Ranlayobu nodded, roughly guessing what was going on: "Is your brother Di Jingcheng? And the sister-in-law you mentioned is my daughter Azi."
Di Jinghan nodded: "That's right!" Just as she was about to say something more, Cheng Yi flew over, soaring above the crowd and landing steadily in front of Di Jinghan: "Your humble servant greets the Princess."
"Get up, get up, Chengyi. Did my brother and sister-in-law send you to fetch me? Let's go in quickly!" Di Jinghan made a move to enter the village.
Unexpectedly, the group led by Ranlayob did not back down at all. Several young men even brandished their sickles and hoes, their faces full of ferocity.
Cheng Er stepped in front of her, startling the others into taking a few steps back.
Cheng Yi turned to the clan chief: "Please allow our princess to leave with the emperor!"
Ranlayobu narrowed his eyes slightly: "So, you're planning to abandon our Azi?"
Di Jinghan was completely bewildered and looked at Cheng Yi in astonishment, her tone very anxious: "Cheng Yi, what happened? What's wrong?"
