When Di Jinghan and his group entered, they were met with a scene filled with murderous intent, and they didn't know how to react.
Cheng Er tried to stop Di Jingcheng from reopening his wounds due to excessive excitement. The already crazed Di Jingcheng was thrown aside, blood seeping from the corner of his mouth. It seemed that Cheng Yi was about to die at his hands.
A pang of pity flashed through Cheng Er's heart, and he wanted to speak up to stop him, but the pain in his chest reminded him that the emperor would not listen to him. He could only close his eyes in sorrow, clutching his chest and panting heavily, hoping that the princess would arrive soon.
Di Jingcheng had already fallen off the bed, and the wounds on his body were still aggravated, with faint traces of blood seeping out. He gripped Chengyi's neck with one hand and held onto the edge of the bed with the other.
The bulging veins on his forehead, his bloodshot eyes, and his clenched teeth revealed his anger. His fingers slowly tightened, and Cheng Yi's face turned ashen. He could hardly breathe, let alone speak.
Cheng Yi looked at the emperor, who was in a state of madness, with tears in his eyes. He could no longer protect him. He still couldn't understand why the emperor would go so mad for a foreign woman, disregarding his own life and reputation, and doing so much for her.
Di Jingcheng was now furious. He wanted to kill Cheng Yi the moment he entered, because he knew that only Cheng Yi could have brought him out of the tribe, causing him to be separated from A Zi. He deserved to die!
"Who gave you the audacity to bring me out without permission! You deserve to die!"
"Your Majesty...Your Majesty...Your Majesty." Cheng Yi was so suffocated that he could barely speak, but he still managed to call out before he died, his voice filled with disbelief.
The sound of joints creaking filled the air. Di Jingcheng watched as Cheng Yi slowly closed his eyes, which were filled with incomprehension and pain, but he remained unmoved and coldly tossed the man aside.
He then slumped weakly to the side of the bed, his chest heaving violently. He must have been unconscious for a long time, and now he'd been brought back here, and Azi hadn't come looking for him! Would she abandon him? She must be heartbroken! No, he had to go find her right away.
Di Jinghan felt that Cheng deserved his fate and did not step forward to stop him. Subordinates who disregard their master's wishes and defy him are a menace even in life. They will overstep their master's authority, act according to their own "ideas," and have other ulterior motives, making them unsuitable to stay by his side.
"Brother, are you feeling unwell anywhere?" Di Jinghan stepped forward and helped him sit back on the bed, his words full of concern.
Di Jingcheng was drenched in sweat from the pain; his outburst in the heat of the moment had left him exhausted. He grabbed his sister's arm tightly: "Jinghan, how is Azi?"
"Rest assured, Your Majesty, Your Majesty is well. You must recover from your injuries before you go to fetch Her Majesty! You must not get angry again, and you must be careful with your wounds."
Upon hearing this, Emperor Jingcheng nodded slightly and released Jinghan's arm. The imperial physician, noticing Emperor Jinghan's glance, quickly stepped forward to examine her pulse.
His body was just a little weak, and he would be fine after some restorative treatment. However, the wound on his back had reopened due to the exertion he had just experienced, and the imperial physician frowned as he treated it.
“Your Majesty, this wound is already serious. We must not aggravate it, otherwise it will become infected. In addition, I have used the best scar-removing medicine, but the wounds are numerous and deep, and the scars may be difficult to remove completely.”
Di Jingcheng didn't think it was a big deal, since it wouldn't be visible once he put on his clothes. But then he thought, what if it scared Azi, or Azi disliked him? That would be terrible.
He said sternly, "I want you to remove all my scars, no matter what method you use!"
Upon hearing this, the imperial physician broke out in a cold sweat. Feeling the emperor's murderous gaze, he looked troubled and stammered, "Your Majesty... this, your humble servant will try his best."
"I don't want you to exert yourself, I want you to guarantee that it will be eradicated."
"Yes, yes, Your Majesty, I obey." Under duress, the imperial physician disregarded everything else and agreed first.
Prefect Liu stood inconspicuously at the back, and only dared to step forward after the emperor and several important figures had finished speaking: "Your Majesty, this..." He glanced at Cheng Yi, who was motionless on the ground, while Cheng Er had already gotten up and knelt to the side.
Di Jingcheng coldly glanced at the corpse: "Drag it away and bury it. Cheng Er will take his place."
"Your humble servant obeys the decree."
Cheng Er stepped forward to express his gratitude, watching Cheng Yi's body being dragged away, and felt a deep sense of sorrow. Despite Cheng Yi's unwavering loyalty to the emperor, the emperor had not removed him from the list of officials, perhaps out of consideration for his years of steadfast loyalty by his side.
Cheng Er felt this was a warning to himself, reminding him never to misuse the methods of loyalty like Cheng Yi had, and never to develop inappropriate thoughts. He didn't deny that he had been too cold-blooded and ruthless about Cheng Yi's death, but his first lesson upon entering the Dark Guard Pavilion was to sever all emotional ties, so he felt at most a trace of sympathy, but he kept it firmly hidden.
The room soon quieted down. Di Jinghan sat on a chair to the side, watching his elder brother sitting on the bed in a deep thought, and spoke first.
“Brother, your wife isn’t as heartless as Cheng Yi claims. The day she learned you were injured and unconscious, she suffered a miscarriage and bled a lot. When Cheng Yi took you away that day, she was still unconscious, but thankfully she’s out of danger. So… don’t blame her.” Di Jinghan was worried about what Cheng Yi had said to him, and it was better to explain things clearly. If this matter caused any rift, it would be a loss.
Di Jingcheng was lost in his own thoughts when he heard his sister mention that Azi had gone through a miscarriage. Only then did he listen carefully to her words. He instantly felt that Chengyi had died too easily, and he wanted to go find his Azi right now.
Ignoring the pain, he tried to get up, supporting himself on the edge of the bed, and managed to stand up straight. The moment he moved, Di Jinghan rushed forward to support him: "Brother, the imperial physician said you can't move around too much with this injury. If you do this, your sister-in-law will be heartbroken, and I won't allow it!"
