Chapter 41 Di Jingcheng's Lingering Fear

Before long, the faint calls of palace servants could be heard from the woods, and a hint of joy appeared on everyone's faces.

Qinghe was even more excited: "Master, it must be the Emperor coming to pick you up."

Upon hearing this, Azi's little face couldn't help but show a hint of joy.

"This servant will carry Your Highness on my back. If we go towards the direction of the sound, everything should be fine," Qinghe said again. As a martial artist, carrying a petite woman with a slender figure was a piece of cake for her.

Azi pursed her lips, moved her sore and cold feet, and nodded: "Thank you for your hard work."

The maidservants behind her stepped forward to help her onto Qinghe's back. At this moment, Di Jingcheng seemed to have already seen the girl in the bright red snow coat. Ignoring the trembling of the plum blossoms, he strode over and excitedly exclaimed, his voice filled with boundless affection and fear: "Azi!"

Looking at the vibrant girl before him, he couldn't help but tremble; he had almost lost his precious one again.

Upon hearing the sound, Azi looked up, her face filled with joy, and she left the palace servants beside her to run towards the man.

Qinghe watched her reckless actions with a pounding heart: "Your Highness, be careful not to fall!"

The words had barely left his lips when the petite, fiery red figure was already embedded in the snow. Di Jingcheng's eyes reddened, and he cried out in alarm, "Azi!"

He quickened his pace, his hands scratched by tree branches, and ran over as fast as he could to pick the person up from the snow. He gave Qinghe and the others, who were panting as they ran over, a look of displeasure on his face.

But he had no time to worry about them at the moment, and hurriedly checked the baby in his arms carefully: "Is there anything wrong with your body?" He felt around under the snow coat with one hand, and his heart slowly calmed down. However, the person in his arms had soaked through shoes and socks, and he felt heartbroken.

He wrapped the little girl completely in his cloak, pressing it tightly against his body, then deftly removed her cold shoes and socks and tossed them aside. He then held her small feet in his hand and gently stroked them, warming them with his own body heat.

Ah Zi was clearly exhausted. She clung tightly to the man's chest and whispered, "I'm fine, don't worry." Then she closed her eyes, feeling the warmth he gave her and finding immense comfort in her heart.

Upon hearing this, Di Jingcheng felt a sense of loss ease and left a tender kiss on her forehead.

When Di Jingyuan arrived, he saw his elder brother holding the beautiful woman tightly in his arms. The woman's face was tired, her bright eyes were closed, and she nestled in the man's arms with a slight smile on her lips.

"Brother, is everything alright?" He was careful with his words, making sure not to give Azi any cause for criticism.

Emperor Jingcheng nodded: "Your Plum Garden is too dangerous. The ground is rugged and uneven, and it's too big." He turned and left after saying this, and the palace servants quickly followed.

The once bustling forest was now left with only Di Jingyuan and Qiu Xiang standing there.

Di Jingyuan smiled slightly: "Did you hear what the Emperor said?"

Qiu Xiang quickly replied, "This servant knows, but this servant is dull-witted, please enlighten me, Your Highness."

"From now on, a new road will be opened in each of the plum grove areas in the east, west, south and north of the Plum Garden, and palace servants will be assigned to guard them."

“This servant understands.”

——

Azi fell asleep in Di Jingcheng's arms halfway there, feeling the man's warmth and his nagging in her ear. Already exhausted, she felt incredibly sleepy.

Di Jingcheng held her in his arms as they sat on the dragon carriage, A Zi completely protected in his embrace.

He took the hand warmer and used it to warm her little feet again and again. Slowly, her originally cold little feet warmed up, and he carefully wrapped them in a cloak.

After all that, Azi snuggled comfortably into his arms, groggily opened her eyes, and looked up at the handsome man before her. Her expression was still filled with panic and heartache, and her brows were slightly furrowed. She reached out and gently touched his handsome face: "I'm perfectly fine, don't be sad."

Di Jingcheng's brows slowly relaxed. He took her small hand and gently stroked it against his cheek. He lowered his head and lightly kissed her lips: "I will never dare to let you run around alone again."

Upon hearing this, Azi reached out and covered his lips, protesting, "No, what fun is there in watching me like this every day?"

Di Jingcheng chuckled: "You got lost in the woods in just one morning. How can I not worry about you, my darling?"

When Azi heard him teasing her, she pouted in dissatisfaction: "I've only been here for a short time, and I'm not familiar with this place yet."

"Alright, alright, then I'll take you around to familiarize yourself with the palace layout, since you'll be the mistress of this place from now on."

Di Jingcheng's expression was full of doting affection. He would never allow an accident to happen again. In this life, he was determined not to let her get hurt, but he also couldn't let her be unhappy. Therefore, he could only give in, but he would feel more at ease keeping an eye on her himself from now on.

Upon hearing this, Azi nodded happily: "That's more like it!"

As they spoke, the imperial carriage entered the gates of the Qian Yuan Palace and landed in the front courtyard. Zheng He's voice came from outside: "Your Majesty, Master, we have arrived."

Di Jingcheng carried the person out of the room. A gust of cold wind rushed towards them, biting cold, but the little girl in his arms was completely sheltered in the man's embrace, and the man blocked all the wind and snow.

"Has the imperial physician arrived?" Emperor Jingcheng carried the person around the front hall's corridor and headed towards the bedchamber.

"Your Majesty, the imperial physician has arrived, and ginger soup and hot water are ready."

Emperor Jingcheng carried the person back to the bedchamber, where it instantly felt as warm as spring. Azi took off her cloak and sat on the warm couch.

Emperor Jingcheng first took the hot water from the palace servants and gave her a foot bath, and then thoughtfully fed her ginger soup.
