Chapter 15 Assassination

Whoosh!

The arrow pierced the air, and the sound suddenly became crisp.

Even Li Xin, who had just left the hunting party not far away, heard the sound of arrows piercing the air.

Whoosh!

Li Xin turned around and, out of the corner of his eye, he saw a shadow on the other side, tightly gripping a bow and arrow.

What happened?

Before Li Xin could even check if the old hunter behind him had hit the wild boar, an arrow pierced the air and pierced his arm.

"Oh! You hit it! You hit it!"

Cheers came from behind the hunting party.

Li Xin was suddenly struck in the arm by an arrow, his pupils contracted slightly, and he fell towards the snow.

The guards beside him, Xiao Wang and Xiao Sun, were startled. They looked warily at the direction from which the arrows had come and shouted, "Assassin! There's an assassin!"

The loud sound broke the cheers of the hunting party members.

He Chaojun didn't have time to look at the wild boar that had fallen after being hit by an arrow; he turned his head and looked in the direction where Li Xin had retreated.

With just one glance, He Chaojun saw a splash of crimson in the snow, and the body of Prince Xin on the snow.

What?

He Chaojun looked horrified and exclaimed, "His Highness has been assassinated! Protect His Highness!"

The thunderous sound interrupted the hunting party members who were cheering and celebrating.

Even the old hunter Uncle Zhao was startled and turned to look into the distance.

The hunting team members quickly surrounded Li Xin.

At that moment, a figure draped in white cloth emerged from behind a large tree in the forest and ran across the snow, trying to escape the area.

The hunting party members behind them gripped their bows and arrows tightly, nocking and releasing the strings.

Swoosh! Swoosh! Swoosh!

Arrows rained down on the man in white.

The man in white dodged left and right, avoiding the arrows.

At this moment, He Chaojun, terrified, came to Li Xin's side.

He instructed a portion of the hunting party to protect His Highness's safety.

Then, He Chaojun helped Li Xin up from the ground and anxiously asked, "Your Highness, Your Highness..."

The pain in his arm made Li Xin wince.

He opened his eyes and immediately saw the arrow in his arm and the snowflakes soaked with blood in the snow.

"It's numb! It hurts so much!"

Li Xin gasped.

"Your Highness, please bear with it!"

As a commander of the Prince's Guard, He Chaojun naturally understood what needed to be done urgently.

He Chaojun tore a long strip of cloth from the corner of his robe and said in a deep voice, "Your Highness, bear the pain! I need to remove the arrowhead!"

Li Xin was stunned for a moment, but He Chaojun grabbed the arrow and pulled it out with a sudden burst of strength.

Li Xin grimaced in pain, tears streaming from the corners of his eyes.

He Chaojun skillfully used long strips of cloth to bandage Li Xin's arm.

After bandaging the wound, He Chaojun said, "Your Highness, hang in there! We'll head back to Dongning City now!"

He instructed the hunting party members to protect His Highness's safety.

Meanwhile, He Chaojun also ordered his guards to capture the assassin.

Because of the thick snow, they were not moving very fast.

Before long, he was already panting heavily and too tired to run anymore.

Meanwhile, members of a hunting party, riding on makeshift skis, were steadily closing in on the assassin.

As more and more members of the hunting party arrived, the assassin dressed in white frowned slightly, a ruthless glint in his eyes.

He knew he couldn't escape it today.

He then took out a dagger and forcefully stabbed it into his own neck, simultaneously exerting force with both hands.

A flicker of pain flashed in the assassin's exposed eyes, and he collapsed helplessly into the snow.

Blood was gushing from his neck.

In a short while, a large area of snow was soaked.

Before long, members of the surrounding hunting party arrived, looked at the dead assassin, and were greatly disappointed.

Several members of the hunting party kept a close watch on the surroundings.

The others also reported the news to He Chaojun.

When He Chaojun heard the news, he was furious. "Damn it! This assassin is so professional! We underestimated him!"

After cursing under his breath, He Chaojun quickly asked, "How's the search going? Are there any other assassins?"

"there is none left!"

One of the hunting party members shook his head and said, "Judging from the footprints nearby, there is only one assassin at the scene."

Moreover, it looks like they've been following us for quite some time.

"Continue surveillance!"

He Chaojun gave the order in a deep voice.

Li Xin, standing to the side, was also somewhat surprised.

But upon further reflection, I felt relieved.

Since the assassin was alone and chose to assassinate him, he must have been prepared to die.

He just couldn't understand who wanted him dead.

The pain in his arm left Li Xin no time to think about these things.

After searching the surrounding area for a period of time and confirming that it was safe, He Chaojun and others escorted Li Xin back to Dongning City.

On the way back, the members of the hunting team were all on high alert, unlike their carefree demeanor on the way there.

Even the hunting team failed to rejoice after killing a wild boar weighing four or five hundred pounds.

The horse-drawn sleigh moved swiftly across the snow.

The hunting party's scouts protected Li Xin from the outside.

On the way back, we traveled at a fast pace.

More than an hour later, the group could see the city walls of Dongning City in the distance.

The guards on duty on the city wall immediately spotted the huge wild boar on the sled ahead.

Immediately, the guard shouted, "General He is back! Looks like he's had a good haul..."
