Chapter 22 Return to Songjia Village

It was past nine o'clock at night when Song Yining arrived at Songjia Village. Grandpa Song had been waiting at home for several days, and he even had blisters on his lips.

I'm cursing this girl to death in my heart. It's been days, and she went to sweep the grave by herself and hasn't come back.

I had just lain down in bed that night, wondering why that girl hadn't come back yet, when I heard the door open.

Old Man Song quickly got out of bed to open the door, his expression shifting from worry to joy.

But when he opened the door, his expression did a complete 360-degree turn, becoming a dark, smelly, and wrinkled face.

Seeing her granddaughter return, she said sternly, "So you finally know to come back. You just went to sweep the graves. I thought you were going to live there."

Seeing the concern in the old man's words, Song Yining didn't dare to say anything more and rode her bicycle back into the yard.

Old Man Song noticed that his granddaughter was riding a bicycle and said, "Why is she riding a bicycle? I wonder if it's safe to come back at this hour."

······”

Song Yining could only listen to the old man's rambling for a while. When he had finished, she interjected, "Grandpa, is there anything to eat at home? I'm hungry."

When Grandpa Song heard that his granddaughter was hungry, he quickly took out some snacks from home for her to eat, and ran to the kitchen to cook something for her.

Where is that talkative grandpa from before? He's now happily making food for his granddaughter.

Song Yining looked at her grandfather and couldn't help but smile, her heart filled with joy. Her grandfather was still the same as always, a playful old man, even more talkative than her grandmother.

He's a lot like his modern-day grandfather; both of them are the type to worry a lot.

She didn't see that her grandma was about to get up, so she told her grandma to go back to sleep and came out to check on things herself.

Grandma Song was used to it; it was normal for people in the village to knock on the door late at night if they had a headache or fever, so she didn't get up.

Grandpa Song also knew some of the Shen family's private affairs. Grandpa Shen and he grew up together as children, wearing open-crotch pants.

The two were inseparable, and before leaving, Grandpa Shen told Grandpa Song the secrets of his family.

Since he wasn't around, he was asked to keep an eye on things for Shen Zhi, so Song Yining didn't mention it and the old man didn't ask either.

Don't let the old man's cheerful demeanor fool you; he can be quite intimidating when he's serious, and he's also incredibly vengeful. But when he's being kind, he's absolutely wonderful.

Grandpa Song cooked two poached eggs for his granddaughter, Song Yining, who had just finished washing up outside in the yard.

I saw that Grandpa had already prepared my meal, and I finished it in a few bites while hunched over the table.

After drinking Grandpa's lovingly made sweet egg soup, I let out a satisfied burp before putting down the bowl to wash it.

Grandpa Song waited until his granddaughter finished washing the dishes and pots before looking at her happy expression.

Looking at his granddaughter, he said, "What's wrong? Why are you so happy?"

Song Yining pulled Grandpa Song aside and said, "I went up the mountain these past few days to collect the things I left behind, which took up a lot of time."

On my way down the mountain, I encountered a group of grave diggers. They used your prescription, and it really worked! They cleaned up a bit more, which is why I'm late getting back.”

Song Yining didn't tell the old man that she had encountered someone looking for the Shen family's treasure, afraid that he would worry about her safety.

Grandpa Song asked curiously, "Did those people go to the Shen family's ancestral graves to look for something? How many years have those people been gone?"

"What kind of act did your dad and grandpa put on back then? A lot of people didn't take it seriously; they're still thinking about the Shen family's things."

Song Yining didn't tell the old man that he had also encountered a spy from Japan, otherwise the old man would have been even more worried.

He himself is still too weak, so it's best not to tell Grandpa about those things, otherwise the old man will be even more worried about him going out alone.

Song Yining teased the old man again, saying, "Grandpa, aren't you going to ask me where I hid those things? Aren't you curious at all?"

Grandpa Song rolled his eyes at his granddaughter and said, "Say it if you want to, otherwise forget it. I'm going back to sleep."

After saying that, he stood up arrogantly and prepared to go back to his room. Song Yining saw that the old man was using his usual act of wanting to know but being too proud to admit it.

Without a laugh, I said, "Okay, sit down. I'll tell you. Look at you, all cocky."

As she spoke, she pulled her grandfather into the space. The old man was not prepared when he arrived in an unfamiliar place.

They were in the house inside the space. Song Yining pulled the old man outside to see his masterpiece.

Look, these are all the things from the Shen family. I've taken them all in. There are also some things from my so-called uncle's family and my mother's family in name only.

Grandpa Song stared at the pile of boxes in front of him, which looked like a small mountain, and exclaimed, "The Shen family is really rich. They have accumulated so much wealth in just a few generations, and that's after they have donated a lot of it."

Song Yining was already immune to all of this. The Shen family had the protection of their ancestors, and as long as people were upright, they would have endless wealth in the future.

According to my dad, my grandpa and the others have been working for the country all these years, so how could things not go well in the future?

Besides, both her parents are important scientific researchers in the country, so Song Yining figured she could just sit back and relax in the future.

After sighing, Grandpa Song looked at Song Yining and said, "No wonder your grandfather told me mysteriously that if someone with ill intentions found out, you would be secretly kept under surveillance."

Song Yining said, "There are certain reasons for this."

Grandpa Song then toured the space, and his eyes lit up when he saw the pond full of fish.

Looking at the old man, who was a big foodie, Song Yining knew what he was thinking and said, "Alright, I'll make it for you for lunch tomorrow. Do you want it spicy or with pickled cabbage? I'll show you my skills tomorrow."

Grandpa Song happily put his hands behind his back and went to check on the medicinal herb field.

When the two arrived, Song Yining noticed that the space had expanded slightly, and to this day she still doesn't know why the space had changed.

Then he remembered that he had an old man's logbook; he could just take a look and find out.

After visiting the space, Grandpa Song saw his favorite medical books and happily went out with his granddaughter.

After returning to her room, Song Yining went into her personal space to find her ancestor's logbook.

After receiving the log, Song Yining browsed through the comments from her ancestors about their online spaces, and it seemed that Song Yining's space was the worst.

Other people's spaces are either vast fertile fields or spiritual springs; I'll have to explore my own space on my own!

Although I came from a rural area, I have never actually farmed.

"I'll still have to deal with the fields in this lifetime," Song Yining reassured herself.

It's alright, we have fields in this era. If we can get some seeds later, that will be perfect. We won't have to worry about not having enough food.

Song Yining is back in action, fully recharged. After half a year, let's take a look at Han Ping's recent achievements.

Song Yining thought it best to go to sleep. As for the ancestors, they should be more well-behaved recently.

Every month, someone goes back to the Shen family ancestral graves to clear the weeds. Although no one cares, they keep cleaning up as always.

If it weren't for the food and money left to them by the Shen family, their village would have had to secretly buy food during the famine years. Although the price was higher, no one in the village starved to death.

People should still remember the good deeds of the Shen family. Although no one is watching over them, the villagers take turns to come and check on them every month.
