Chapter 45 Arrival at the Educated Youth Settlement

You'll meet two more female educated youths after work. My room is where they live; the locals call them sazi.

These were all built before we, the educated youth, arrived. Inside is a kang (heated brick bed), which is just the right size for your luggage. This kang is big enough for the five of us.

If more people come, we'll have to figure something out. The cabinets inside were all made by Uncle Yang Shu from the village; he makes furniture.

Li Guangping was in charge of the male educated youth. After giving a general introduction to the educated youth settlement, they had a basic understanding of it.

Shen Shiyu was ready to give up and made her bed to rest; she was too tired.

Hao Yujie understood with a knowing look and told her to look at all the luggage. In the end, she had no choice but to get up and go out with Hao Yujie.

The male educated youth have been introduced. They live in the two rooms at the front of the courtyard, while the female educated youth, being fewer in number, live in the inner room. The kitchen is at the far end, next to the woodshed.

"This yard is a bit out of the way, but it's big, and the plot of land is also large. We grow some seasonal vegetables to ensure our own normal supply."

I got back early today to cook dinner for everyone. After that, Li Guangping will take you to see the furniture and collect your food.

"I'll take you to see the furniture. You can choose what you like, and then we'll have them deliver it to you on a cart."

The group looked at the furniture and picked out what they wanted, from large cabinets to small items like washing mallets and wooden basins.

After a while, everyone bought what they needed, and the poplar wood craftsman promised to deliver it back to them.

Li Guangping then took them to the brigade headquarters and explained the grain rations. He said that the 20 jin of grain they were all allocated had to be returned, and that the amount would be deducted from their work points.

After buying the furniture, I walked further in and saw a spacious courtyard; that was the brigade headquarters.

The people entered and received their rations, which were mixed grain flours that weren't white flour but contained wheat bran and corn kernels, which were called "baogu zhenzi" here.

Rice is produced in relatively small quantities here, but there is still some. There are also sweet potatoes and potatoes. The cornmeal weighs 20 jin (10 catties) in total. The five of them have already consumed 100 jin (50 catties). They borrowed a cart, and Li Guangping helped them haul it back to the educated youth settlement.
