Chapter 47 Grandma Yang Meets Song Yining

After putting down her luggage, Song Yining remembered to call home. She had already informed her family that she would be arriving at the rural area later than usual.

Song Yining called her father's workplace first, and less than a minute later she heard Song Chengzhi's call.

Upon learning that their daughter had safely arrived at her destination in the countryside, Song Chengzhi and the others were relieved.

After finishing the phone call, Song Yining went back into the state-run restaurant and packed two servings of braised pork and two servings of white rice, which were also large meat buns.

After packing everything up, he took the eight treasures of food, ran to the oxcart, took out his spare chopsticks, and handed them to Old Man Yang to eat together.

Old Yang didn't stand on ceremony. He knew this girl was shrewd and that the state-run restaurant's cooking was quite good. He enjoyed the meal immensely.

Song Yining got on Old Man Yang's oxcart, and the two chatted casually. Song Yining learned some gossip about the village and got firsthand information about entering the village.

Song Yining then asked if there were any vacant houses in the village. After thinking for a moment, Old Man Yang remembered that there was a haunted house in the village.

Many years ago, an elderly person living alone in the village died, and it took many days for them to be discovered.

The village arranged for the old man to be buried, but later everyone felt uncomfortable after the burial took place, so the burial was gradually abandoned.

No one dared to go in anymore, and that's how it became known as a haunted house.

Song Yining thought it sounded pretty good; she lived in a more secluded spot, which was quiet and undisturbed by others.

When the two arrived at Yangjia Village, everyone learned that another educated youth had arrived that day. Song Yining smiled and greeted the older women in the village.

As another girl arrived, everyone secretly thought to themselves, "What is this girl doing in the countryside? She's so pitiful!"

When the villagers saw that another female educated youth had arrived, they all cast sympathetic glances at her.

Ignoring the stares from everyone, Song Yining followed Uncle Yang in the oxcart to the brigade leader's house, as instructed by the brigade leader.

The youth settlement is already overcrowded, and his mother also wanted Song Yining to stay at home.

Although the little girl's father was raised by her mother and grandmother, the old lady loved her daughter-in-law so much that when she learned the girl was coming to the countryside, she asked her daughter-in-law to prepare a room in Xiangyang.

The old lady was the pillar of the family. During those years of famine, the family was much better off than most families thanks to Shen Zhi's help.

His youngest son was able to grow up healthily and is now healthy.

So when the old lady's daughter-in-law heard her mother-in-law's instructions, she agreed without hesitation. She treated her mother-in-law like a benefactor, so how could she be perfunctory?

When they arrived at the brigade leader's house, Old Man Yang got out of the car and knocked on the door. Hearing the knock, the old lady, who was sitting in the yard, ran to the door and opened it with great speed.

The old lady knew that Song Yining had something to do and would be back in the next couple of days, so she had been waiting for her in the yard.

When Grandma Yang saw Song Yining outside the door, tears welled up in her eyes.

Grandma Yang held Song Yining's hand and looked at her, saying, "So alike! So alike! If your grandma saw you, she would be surprised. You look so much like her when she was young."

Song Yining knew that he didn't look much like his biological parents, and he also wanted to know what his grandmother, whom he had never met, looked like. Did she really look like him?

The old lady pulled Song Yining inside, and her daughter-in-law was also at home these past few days, waiting for Song Yining to come over.

She had to go to the outhouse because she was in a hurry, and when she heard her mother-in-law's voice, she quickly ran out.

Seeing the old woman holding a little girl, she quickly came out to greet Old Man Yang and helped him take Song Yining's luggage from the car.

Upon seeing this, Song Yining quickly came over and helped take down her luggage. There were five packages of various sizes, which looked quite impressive.

Yang Chunlin's wife, Zhang Datao, was very efficient; she carried her luggage and moved it into the room they had prepared for Song Yining.

Grandma Yang was looking for a wet nurse job in the area because her husband was seriously ill and she had given birth to a son and had plenty of breast milk.

By a twist of fate, he ended up taking his son to the Shen family's house. Although the Shen family's house was far away, they allowed him to bring his son along.

The wages were also very high. Old Mrs. Yang stayed in the Shen family for 6 years, and Shen Zhi was basically taken care of by her.

Grandma Yang gritted her teeth and took her son to Song Yining's hometown for a while.

Because of her poor health after giving birth to Shen Zhi, Old Mrs. Shen had to take medication for many years and therefore had no time to take care of her second son.

However, Yang Chunlin had long forgotten the days he lived in the Shen family because of his illness.

Old Man Yang's health only gradually improved over those years. After his father-in-law's health deteriorated, they left the Shen family and returned to Yangjia Village.

Every year during that time, Shen Zhi would think of his wet nurse's kindness, and Old Mrs. Shen was also very grateful to him for taking care of her son personally during those years.

Shen Zhi's family has always been very supportive of his actions and has continued to send him retirement money every year.

The old lady's second grandson is serving in the army. I heard he's been doing well lately and got promoted, which makes the whole family very happy.

After everyone collected their luggage, Old Man Yang drove the oxcart back first, while Song Yining, accompanied by the old lady, learned about the Yang family's situation.

The old lady has three grandsons, two granddaughters-in-law, three great-grandsons, and one great-granddaughter. She really likes girls.

My granddaughter is not even six months old, and everyone loves her. This little girl went to her maternal grandparents' house for the past few days.

The great-grandchildren have all gone out to play and haven't come back yet. The older ones are looking after the younger ones, so there's no need to worry about them.

Yang Chunlin got married early in the countryside, and his son also got married early. Shen Zhi got married late, and they also had children late, so he was about ten years younger than his brothers on Yang's side.
