The old man quickly packed his things up; it was really just a matter of organizing his baskets and carrying things together, stacking what he could to make them easier to carry.
The rooster and other mountain produce were all placed in the basket on my back. After sorting them out, they were much easier to carry, but one person still couldn't carry them all.
"Girl, where do you live? You have so much stuff, let me take it back for you."
Meng Fuyan glanced at her car and shook her head, saying, "No need, old man. Just tie them all to the car; it should fit."
Mountain produce and other goods are all placed in baskets on the back, stacked up and tied to the back seat of the vehicle, hanging on both sides, and some can be placed on top. As for the baskets, it's even simpler; just string them together with rope and tie them to the back.
I looked around some more and found that some people were selling pheasants and rabbits, but not many, just one or two at a time.
Meng Fuyan guessed correctly; most people wanted to exchange their items directly. However, she had already given all her things to the old man, so she was willing to give him more money and tickets now.
After collecting some more mountain produce, along with two rabbits and a pheasant, Meng Fuyan took the goods home.
The prey and the two roosters were still alive. Meng Fuyan tied them up in the yard and kept them for the time being, to be killed when the banquet was held.
Upon seeing the rabbit and the rooster, the two little ones got excited and rushed over, squawking loudly, which startled the two roosters, causing them to cackle loudly.
"Stay away!" Meng Fuyan was so frightened that she quickly pulled Dundun over. "Don't touch it, or it will bite you!"
Roosters in the countryside are not to be trifled with; if one pecks your eye, you're in big trouble.
The rooster was no good to play with, but the rabbits were fine. However, both rabbits had injured legs and looked listless. Meng Fuyan poured some spiritual spring water for them to drink, which cheered them up considerably.
Dundun took the rabbit and went to play with his brother. Meng Fuyan asked the nanny to watch the two children and went to buy a chicken coop.
Meng Fuyan breathed a sigh of relief after putting the two roosters into the cage. The pheasant was already dead, but it didn't seem to have been dead for long, so she just needed to get rid of it as soon as possible.
While Meng Fuyan was cooking at home, Gu Tingzhi was quickly called back.
The Gu family couldn't sit still any longer, and Liang Yue had gone back and told them, so Old Master Gu personally called Gu Tingzhi to come back.
Gu Tingzhi knew that all of this was inevitable, so he went back.
At this time, there were quite a few people sitting in the Gu family's living room, including Old Master Gu, Gu Tao, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Even before everyone has arrived, the living room is already packed with people. If everyone arrives, the living room probably won't be big enough to hold them all.
This is the Gu family, truly a family with prosperous descendants.
Every time Gu Tingzhi saw such a scene, he felt extremely heartbroken. His mother's house used to be very lively, but unfortunately, one by one, they all passed away, and now he was the only one left.
Many of the people in front of him were raised on his mother's money.
Gu Tingzhi looked at Old Master Gu, who was sitting at the head of the table, and the corners of his mouth curled up slightly. "Old Master, did you want to see me?"
This nonchalant attitude infuriated Old Master Gu. His shrewd old eyes flashed with a fierce storm in an instant, but having seen many big scenes, he quickly suppressed his emotions.
"Why didn't you discuss it with your family before submitting the marriage application?"
Gu Tingzhi replied, "It was already made public a few years ago, there's no need to discuss it."
Grandpa Gu squinted. "She's only your girlfriend in name, not in reality."
"Over time, feelings develop, and things just naturally progress."
Grandpa Gu found Gu Tingzhi's sudden change in attitude rather strange; he wasn't like this a few years ago, before Gu Tingzhi went abroad.
It wasn't like this when he first came back a few days ago.
What happened these past few days?
Old Master Gu patiently said, "Tingzhi, what's wrong with you? You have a bright future ahead of you. What kind of woman can't you have? You can choose from almost any young lady in the capital. That girl is just Lu's stepdaughter. She's been by your side for several years and her reputation is already ruined. Even if you really want to marry her, you don't need to give her so much face. You can leave her out for a while and talk to Lu Guozhong about the terms."
Gu Tingzhi smiled and said, "As you said, my future is bright and I lack nothing, so there's no need to negotiate with my future father-in-law."
Gu Tao, standing nearby, retorted angrily, "You may not need it, but the Gu family isn't just you. You have so many brothers and sisters, you..."
"Aren't these all your children? What? You're capable of giving birth but not of raising them?"
"you……"
This was the first time a junior in the Gu family had dared to treat Gu Tao like this. Usually, the old master Gu and Gu Tao were very strict in managing the household, and the matriarch of the family was not someone to be trifled with. Therefore, the juniors in the Gu family were relatively well-behaved, and even if there were a few spoiled brats, they did not dare to speak up and ridicule Gu Tao.
This was the first time Gu Tao had received such treatment in front of his family. He was stunned for a while before he reacted, and his face turned red with anger.
"How dare you, Gu Tingzhi! Is this how you speak to your elders? My Gu family has no family traditions like yours."
The descendants standing nearby were so frightened they didn't dare breathe. Some were scared, some were gloating, but the happiest among them were the descendants of the matriarch of the family, Xu Honghua.
She was Gu Tao's first wife, and also the one who had the last laugh among all of Gu Tao's women. After the Gu family came to Kyoto, she was the only one who moved into this big house that symbolized status. The other women under him were all kept outside without any proper status!
Ignoring everyone's expressions, Gu Tingzhi replied, "I have no family. My maternal grandparents died long ago, my mother passed away early, and even my brother is gone. Have you forgotten?"
