The two chatted and finished their dinner before they knew it.
Lin Xiaoxiao quickly cleared away the dishes and then began to change Han Qiushi's dressing.
She carefully examined the wound and found that the bleeding had stopped. She thought that, given the situation, after drinking the spiritual spring water for another two days, Han Qiushi should be able to get out of bed and move around freely.
After changing the dressings, the two said goodnight to each other and went to rest.
The next day, Lin Xiaoxiao got up on time as usual, made some simple breakfast, and ate with Han Qiushi.
She went out as soon as she heard the first bell ring for the start of work in the village.
She went straight to the team leader, Wang Shengli, thinking she should remind everyone not to go up the mountain these days.
Wang Shengli smiled broadly and nodded to Lin Xiaoxiao, saying, "Lin, don't worry. After this incident, I told everyone that no one is allowed to go into the mountains."
You're all injured, and everyone's scared. The police specifically warned us not to go up there carelessly lately, just in case the bad guys from last time weren't caught.
Upon hearing this, Lin Xiaoxiao immediately understood that the police officers must have also sensed something was amiss, which was why they had specifically spoken to Wang Shengli.
She quickly made up a lie: "I went for a walk in the mountains that day and saw some wild boar tracks. I was worried that the villagers might accidentally run into them."
Captain Wang looked around and, seeing that no one was around, lowered his voice and asked Lin Xiaoxiao, "Lin Zhiqing, do you think there might still be bad people hiding in these mountains?"
“Our mountain usually only has a lot of wild vegetables and rabbits. If it’s for those things, it’s not worth making such a fuss.”
“I’m afraid that there might be some treasure hidden in the mountains, or that someone is doing something bad, which is why they are so ruthless.”
Lin Xiaoxiao: "Why do you think that?"
"You don't know yet, do you? A couple of years ago, something happened in the next county."
"Two boys went missing in a village. The whole village went out to look for them and even reported it to the police, but they couldn't find them even after several hours."
"Fortunately, there was a man in that village who had returned from the army and had some skills in finding people. In the end, he found the man."
"Guess how those human traffickers did it?"
Lin Xiaoxiao became curious about his question and pressed him for details: "How did you get out?"
Captain Wang waved his hand and said, "These human traffickers are very cunning. They've been hiding in the mountains for several days, planning to sneak the children away when no one is looking."
"Who would have thought that the human traffickers would kidnap people and not leave? It wasn't until the police arrested them that we found out these guys did this all the time."
Hearing this, Lin Xiaoxiao couldn't help but marvel at the cunning of human traffickers. She thought to herself, "It really is true that the most dangerous place is sometimes the safest place."
Looking at Captain Wang's deep expression, she couldn't help but give him a thumbs up: "Captain, experience is the best teacher. You think things through more thoroughly than us young people."
"Wangjia Village is truly blessed to have a responsible team leader like you."
Captain Wang was a little embarrassed by the praise, and waved his hand with a smile: "It's all my duty. Every time I go to a meeting at the commune, I listen very attentively."
“These are no small matters. As the village team leader, I can’t afford not to take them seriously.”
Lin Xiaoxiao said a few more kind words, and seeing that the task was completed, she left with her basket on her back.
She planned to gather some firewood and check if the children were cutting pig feed at the foot of the mountain.
As they walked, several figures appeared ahead. It turned out to be Da Niu, along with Li Mei and the other two.
Da Niu, with his sharp eyes, spotted Lin Xiaoxiao immediately and excitedly exclaimed, "Pretty sister, you're here! My pig feed is almost ready, I can help you in a bit!"
Lin Xiaoxiao said with a smile, "I don't need your help today. Da Niu, go and call everyone over. I have some candy here."
Upon hearing that there was candy, Da Niu ran off to inform the others without hesitation.
Lin Xiaoxiao walked towards Wang Xue and Li Mei, somewhat surprised, and asked, "You've come to cut pig feed too?"
Wang Xue scratched her head and said, "Yes, we were injured and can't do heavy work, but we wanted to earn more work points, so we came to cut pig feed."
Lin Xiaoxiao nodded and said, "Okay, then you guys hurry up and cut it, and come with me later."
Li Mei, standing to the side, looked puzzled and asked, "What's wrong?"
Before Lin Xiaoxiao could answer, a group of children surrounded her, cheerfully calling out "Pretty sister."
Lin Xiaoxiao took out a handful of fruit candies from her pocket and said to the children, "Don't come here lately. If you need to cut pig feed, go to the riverbank. There are wild boars in the mountains. For your own safety, it's better to earn fewer work points than to come here, understand?"
The children all knew how dangerous wild boars were, and with the added temptation of candy, they all nodded in agreement.
Wang Xue and Li Mei also trusted Lin Xiaoxiao a lot. After what happened a few days ago, they had almost absolute trust in Lin Xiaoxiao.
She didn't need to explain further; they could cooperate immediately, knowing that she was doing it for everyone's good and wouldn't harm them.
Before long, a large group of people from the foot of the mountain walked towards the river to cut pig feed.
Although Lin Xiaoxiao said that the children didn't need to help today, the children were very enthusiastic, and in no time, Lin Xiaoxiao's basket was full of pig feed.
As per tradition, after Lin Xiaoxiao filled her basket, she waited nearby for the children to fill it with pig feed before they went back together.
******
Just as everyone was working hard, suddenly, five wild boars rushed down the mountain like a black whirlwind and charged straight into the place where they were working.
In an instant, the tender green crops were trampled into a mess, and mud flew everywhere.
"Wild boars are coming! Grab your weapons!" Someone shouted at the top of their lungs, and the able-bodied men in the village dropped their farm work, grabbed hoes, sickles, sticks and other tools, and ran over from all directions.
