Su Li answered Lin Xiaoxiao, but her mind was elsewhere. After a two-second silence, she said, "Xiaoxiao, have you been busy lately? Have you had time to read?"
"I still watch it when I have free time."
"Then spend more time looking at the books I found for you recently. Don't forget what you've learned before; you might need it later."
Lin Xiaoxiao knew very well that the college entrance examination would be reinstated soon. How did Su Li know this, since she didn't work in a government agency?
Seeing Lin Xiaoxiao's confusion, Su Li explained, "I'm just guessing. Two of the teachers who were sent down have returned recently. I have a feeling this is a trend. With your excellent grades, you can't miss this opportunity."
"Okay, I will study hard."
Su Li was just guessing, but it was never wrong to read more books and prepare early. Even if the college entrance examination had not been reinstated, what she learned would still be hers, and she wouldn't lose out in the end.
They finished eating quickly, and Zhang Feng took the initiative to clear the dishes. Su Li went to the kitchen to cut some fruit. Before she could even put the fruit plate on the table, they heard someone knocking on the door.
"Su Li, I saw Xiao Xiao brought a lot of meat today. Could you help me get a bowl of it?" As soon as Su Li opened the door, before she could even speak, she heard the older woman who had just been talking to Xiao Xiao speaking in a completely matter-of-fact tone.
Lin Xiaoxiao, who was sitting in a chair, also heard this and immediately stood up to refuse: "I've eaten it all, there's no meat left."
"Impossible, you took so much, there's no way you could finish it all in one meal." The woman walked further and further forward with her bowl, as if she was going to block the door if she didn't get the meat today.
Lin Xiaoxiao had just felt uncomfortable with this older woman. She thought the woman was just being a little too distant, but she never expected her to come here to freeload.
To put it bluntly, this kind of person is shameless. If she were given meat today, Su Li would never have a peaceful day in the future.
It seems she's always been too gentle in front of those around her. Lin Xiaoxiao stood directly in front of Su Li and asked, "So, you're here to borrow my flesh?"
The woman nodded upon hearing this, not caring whether it was taking the meat or borrowing it, as long as she could get the meat: "Yes, fill a bowl for me now."
Lin Xiaoxiao: "Sure, since you said it's about borrowing meat, let's write an IOU."
When the older woman heard Lin Xiaoxiao ask her to write an IOU, she was furious. "No, why are you being so petty? I helped you a lot when you left here. I'm your elder, after all. What's wrong with me taking a little bit of your meat?"
"Ha, elder? What kind of elder are you to me? I've seen shameless people, but I've never seen anyone as shameless as you. You want to be my elder? No one else would even dare to dream like you."
Everyone says there are a lot of weirdos these days, and it's always something new to see. There are all sorts of strange things out there. Someone who's just paying you to help them actually dares to call themselves your elder. I've never seen anything like it!
Lin Xiaoxiao didn't stop talking.
The people inside the house could hear what the two were saying, and even the neighbors nearby came out after hearing the commotion.
"Oh dear, what happened?"
Lin Xiaoxiao nodded politely when she saw the person. The person speaking was Chen Jinghua, Su Li's next-door neighbor. She had a good relationship with Su Li and had met Lin Xiaoxiao a few times, so they knew each other.
Before Su Li could speak, Lin Xiaoxiao couldn't help but reply, "I don't know where this person came from, he just grabbed a bowl and started begging for meat, he's no different from a beggar."
"If they can't get meat from me, they claim to be my elders and should be given meat. I've been to the countryside and lived in Beijing for over ten years, and this is the first time I've encountered someone who comes here to claim kinship without permission."
"Whether we have meat or not, it's none of your business."
After speaking, Lin Xiaoxiao nodded to Chen Jinghua and was about to close the door when, just as she was about to do so, the older woman reached out and pulled the door shut. Like a swift little dog, she rushed into the house, her eyes and nose scanning the surroundings.
Finally, his gaze settled on the kitchen, and without even saying goodbye, he rushed into it.
Lin Xiaoxiao reacted quickly, grabbing the person and saying, "Hey, hey, what are you doing?!" She then pulled the person towards the door.
"Are you trying to rob us instead of giving us anything?"
"Let go, let go! I'm your elder, isn't it only right that you give me some meat? Not only will you not give me meat, but you even hit me!!" The old woman shouted as Lin Xiaoxiao pushed her, as if Lin Xiaoxiao had bullied her terribly.
If it weren't for the fact that everyone around could see that Lin Xiaoxiao wasn't using much force, given this old lady's personality, she might have ended up lying on the floor.
Seeing that Lin Xiaoxiao did not respond immediately, the old woman assumed that she was a person who cared about her reputation. She felt a surge of pride and started to act even more shamelessly, "Child, I am the elder who sent you off to your wedding. It is heartless of you to treat me like this."
"That meat was clearly meant for me, so why are you ripping me off? You're young and sensible. If I give you the meat now, I won't hold it against you."
"Go, get out of here right now, or I'll get physical," Lin Xiaoxiao said, giving the older woman another push.
The older woman seemed to assume that Lin Xiaoxiao was a shy person who would never dare to lay a hand on her. When Lin Xiaoxiao pushed her, the older woman instinctively retaliated.
The next second...
"Ah..." Lin Xiaoxiao took two steps back, suddenly clutching her stomach. Her face turned pale instantly, and she looked like she was in great pain.
